Eddie McGuire makes on-air gaffe about Adam Goodes and King Kong

I disagree completely. Maybe his timing was less than stellar, but Goodes literally looks like a Gorrilla. Nothing to do with his race. He's what, 6'4? Built like a treecutter and has a thick, black beard. **** apologising for that. I'm all for people getting upset when racism involved but with things like this people get too ******* touchy.

Half of you in this topic are acting like complete soft ***** too. Man up, grow a pair. It's not like Eddie said "Adam Goodes is an ape, let's lynch him because he's aboriginal," now THAT's a story. This? This is an excuse for the Eddie haters to get their panties in a bunch... And yes, I say panties and not boxers because you're all acting like a bunch of girls.
Wow.

So you're cool with being called an ape?
Sure as nobody in the family even looks remotely like one it would be the lamest insult ever.

What I do find quite offensive is people making sweeping statements like "Anyone in Australia who doesn't know that calling an Aboriginal "ape" is monumentally offensive has had a bad upbringing. Pure and simple."

Where I've lived and grown up it has never been used as an insult against the aboriginals. Call someone an Ape (before Friday at least..) and you would probably get a WTF? look. Call an aboriginal a n****r, bong, coon or even an abbo and you had better be ready for a fight.

Not just having a go at you because many others have said similar things as well, but it really pisses me off when people claim that anyone hasn't heard of 'ape' as a racial slur is some ignorant idiot, especially when you've spent a fair amount of time growing up around aboriginal people.

The girl got hung out to dry being publicly shamed when there IMO was a very real chance that she wasn't 'racist' at all. An absolute disgrace.

DogDays likes this.

Wasn't aimed at you specifically, just the people who refuse to see both sides of the situation, and basically abuse and insult any poster who refuses to toe the PC party line.

The people running around with their skirts over their head yelling "racist!" at everyone are every bit as bad as the genuine head-in-the-sand racists. But they think that because they're on the super-safe politically correct side of the fence it makes them immune from looking like fanatical morons.

Political extremism works both ways, and is equally silly no matter which camp you're in.

We should be honoured to be in your presence.

You are just a sociological zen master.

I know exactly why I asked the question and it's far more innocuous than you've suggested. So where does the suggestion of anything being "more Aboriginal" come from? It comes from you. You can either react with injured sarcasm, or take ownership of your thoughts. It's your choice. I don't much care.

I was driving down the main road in Wangaratta last year, had my 5 year old daughter in the car with me, anyway there was this Italian man unloading horse manure from his ute (they bag it up and leave it out the front of their property and charge $2 per bag), anyway this guy had no shirt on and he was hairy as all fk, my daughter said 'Daddy Daddy, i just saw a Gorilla', now this dude had darker skin than Goodes, is my daughter a racist?

Kids call it how they see it sometimes, Goodes should be smart enough to know that.
As an adult, though, and not a five-year-old, you'd know it's not nice to stereotype people by their appearance. Kids say super racist things. They're not hating, they're just noticing what's different. But you and I, and that 13-year-old, should be able to get past the fact that this guy's skin is different to mine, or that person's nose is bigger. Because that is racism: judging a person by their race, rather than who they are.

People might not always like what Andrew Bolt has to say, but it's hard to disagree here.

"I blame New Racism for some of this. The Indigenous Round is a fashionably racist event that encourages people to divide the world into a white "us" and an Aboriginal "them". It assumes a grievance and a difference. It encouraged commentators to see in the 13-year-old the archetypal white racist rather than a scared and sorry girl who'd been naughty but now needed her mum."
"The girl is just a girl and not a "white". Eddie is just Eddie and not that bright.
Can we all get on with the footy?" ~ Bolt

Eddie is an entertainer, TV Host, President of a football club and a family man and has his tentacles in a stack of other areas, he calls it multitasking, i call it over commitment and it has come back to bite him on the bum as he has already acknowledged that exhaustion had a lot to do with his brain fade. Something has to give with Eddie 'everywhere' Mcguire before he becomes Eddie 'nowhere'? His days are numbered as Collingwood president or as the host of Triple M hot breakfast, now which one pays more?

Cos that's exactly what I've done by pointing out the huge generalisation you made for an entire race.

"I saw a kid in the Kimberleys who didn't seem phased by Kevin Rudd saying sorry, so therefore Adam Goodes shouldn't be upset about racial slurs!"

You're a brilliant person.

I could go on, but I'd have to change my username if I was going to. You'd be surprised at what I've seen and done Bernie. By the way, I think I'm going to report your username for using a racist term. I'm sure my Japanese friends are losing sleep because of it you racist.

So you wouldn't apologize to a friend or significant other if you accidentally upset them? Even though you didn't mean it? To put it in context, Eddie accidentally upset a whole portion of our population.

I'm not Aboriginal, and I'm gonna take a wild guess that you're not either. Neither you nor I have any business telling them that they're being "too ******* touchy" when we can't possibly understand what it feels like.

Wait, so you are offended, so it is okay to threaten me with, I assume, physical harm, but it is not okay for Adam Goodes to be offended and state he is. Gotcha - thanks for clarifying
I don't think it's Ok to question the intelligence of a posters 5 year old daughter, you feeling me bro?

I'm beginning to think you're just trolling Roby, no one would go that overboard in their analysis and I shouldn't even need to explain the meaning of my post, even if it isn't admittedly well worded.

Well that's one step in a more sympathetic view if you're admitting that.

Or otherwise you should absolutely reread your posts before posting. Misconstruing things is one of the arguments made in this thread and on this issue, if you been following any of it.

I don't think it's Ok to question the intelligence of a posters 5 year old daughter, you feeling me bro?
So now do I go on for 50 posts about how I don't think there is anything wrong with questioning your daughter's intelligence? How I do it all the time? How I question the intelligence of people who I know are actually intelligent. And then any time someone makes a comment about it repeat the same thing ad nauseum? Are YOU feeling ME *bro*?

Should i have taken her to the police station? damn, 5 yr olds should know better!!

Should Goodes be offended if a baby says he looks like an Ape as well should he? you clearly don't have children, lets prey it stays that way.

Lets PRAY your not bestowing your wisdom on her.
