As anyone on this board should know, the call for Eddie to quit has been going for years and had nothing to do with the recent report. He did a great job at the start but well and truly outstayed his welcome. If he went a few years ago would the new president have been coping this much crap?
Anyway glad he’s gone for whatever reasons now for the coach and we might be able to move forward.

It is very sad to see Collingwood's base turn on a man who dragged the club out of the terrible hole it had gotten itself into. He clearly puts the club before himself, and had stepped down rather than attract any more rocks thrown by people whose own homes are glazed from front to back. The short memories of the Collingwood "faithful" must depress him no end. It gets harder and harder to stay with this club, not because of McGuire, but because of the mean spirits of the so called supporters that are so quick to tear down their leadership. No good ever comes of such back stabbing behaviour.
I repeat what I have said elsewhere.
We are a racist country, that can confect outrage at name calling, but can run concentration camps for refugees, and murder aboriginals in custody with nary a trace of criticism. Those celebrating Eddie McGuire's fall should take a good hard look at themselves, but they won't.

As seen by his involvement in the Beams disaster, he put himself above the club many times. A President should never ever influence list management, but being in the role for 20 years tends to make people think they own the place...thats why he had to go, regardless of this report. 20 years as president is extremely unhealthy for both Ed and the Club, we need a fresh perspective.

It's only recently that I had to concede that Eddie had to go now. I do not and have never considered him to be a racist but as he said, he has become a lightning rod and it sadly reflects on the club. What will never change is that in my 60+ years, Collingwood has never had a better president and I believe indeed that there has been no man more important to the club in that time and possibly for a lot longer. His achievements will never be forgotten and he will forever be remembered as a legend and savior of the club. I hope that he stays engaged with the club and can enjoy his time now without the constant pressure. Thanks for everything Ed.

Not everything is like our jumper, black and white. There are many shades of grey.
I generally agree. Most issues a complex. But branding a man a racist or a leader of a racist institution is a shocking accusation. If people truly believe it, there is no shade involved. Saying he built the Holden Centre is not a compensation for his "racist attitudes and behavior." I think it's all utter rubbish. He is clearly a decent man with a good heart. Seeing him broken and crying must have given enormous pleasure to the insatiable haters out there.

The media created that lightning rod and then play the innocent with headlines saying "McGuire"s Shock Resignation!" Goodness me! Why would Eddie step down? This is such a bolt from the blue! They are so pathetic.

Eddie's first ten years were very good - thanks Ed
His last ten years were not so good - thanks for agreeing to step down!

PS - he still can't translate our motto "Floreat Pica" - :(

The right decision has been made. What a pity he was unable to make that decision by himself instead of it being media driven in the end.
Well he did, but gave himself another 12 months to bow out & I bet he regrets that now.
The club can move on now & get some clean air. I for one will enjoy not having our President all over the news for the wrong reasons.
I'm not sure how anybody who is fronting a press conference after a report finds us guilty of systemic racism, can say it's a proud day for our club.
It was an absolute day of shame & yet again he read the room completely wrong. Most of us knew he wouldn't see out the year after that. Just too many foot in mouth moments.
I appreciate all the time & effort Ed has put into 23 years of heading the club. But I'm actually excited by the chance we now have to move on from the boys club mentality & perhaps get professional in our approach. For some this will be a sad day.
I think it may be a day that turns us around as a club.

I think that you're writing garbage. You are more sensationalist in your posting that the media could ever manage in their reporting.

On the one hand you criticise the media's framing of the story. At the same time you adopt their way of seeing events, telling us that Ed is either the racist leader of a racist institution or a good man who has nothing to answer for.

It just isn't that simple, never has been.

The way the word headlines and the narrative on the stories makes me want to spew at times

If he is not a racist and not responsible for the systematic racism at our club why did he just step down in tears? What exactly is he guilty of if not overseeing a racist institution? What is sensationalist about my statement? Why did so many people of colour demand his resignation? If he was simply stupid or misspoke, surely he would still be our president.

Agree. Eddie being forced to resign in disgrace is 100% his own doing.

I wonder what the perennial whingers on this forum will sook about now? 🤔
My guess is at people having slightly negative opinions against the club.

I think I may have been the only fan to have run to the Holden centre to pay my last respects to Ed on his departure. A very sad time for me at least, I was certainly in need of a tissue (and therapy I think).

You should have seen the conga line of smug pricks walk out. Damo, Sam McClure and my arch nemesis Tom Browne all looking like the cat that got the cream but attempting to hide it with this fake sense of regret that it ended like this. Get wrecked.

Kudos to Tom Morris and Tony Armstrong for having a chat and not being like the others.

I may have finally got my revenge on Tom Browne ... but I’ll keep it quiet as I know he will read this. Go to hell Tom

Eddie is still going to be pulling the strings to all you people who are celebrating 🤣🤣🤣 . Eddie isn't going to let a few spoke ruin what he has built the king is here to stay don't worry about it

IF he went somewhere around 2013-2017 he probably left on better Terms
