Re: EDFL "A" Grade - 2010 - Umpires

Now before i start, i am not complaining about us losing on the weekend because we had the youngest side out on the ground we have put together in my 4 years.

Can everyone tell me what they think of the Umpiring Standards this season.

Yes, as much as I hate saying anything about umpires, the standard really was terrible in 1 game especially. Without naming specifics examples because then you seem like a bad loser, the games in which both teams seem most frustrated are the ones where there is far too many free kicks paid. I think when it comes to umpiring, especially at local level, there needs to be far less half-free kicks paid because that creates far less abuse and frustration from sidelines. A free-kick which is given that isn't there annoys the hell out of people a lot more than one that could have been there that wasn't given...as long as there is consistency. Although the umpiring was not perfect, the Abers v Keilor game seemed to be umpired well because there were less free-kicks given, while another game which does not need to be mentioned was farcical.

You are right umpire aren't perfect and make mistakes like players do. You have to take into account the expereince of the umpire before judging them harshly in our league. The Essendon umpires are well coached, and do their best to have a consitant interperation accross all umpires. But as like players some umpire are more expereinced and better at making decsions than others. You should reliase that these guys are doing there best and that is a different is umpire quality accross grade and age groups.

A real keen eye you have there. FYI the free kick was paid for a hold. He had his arm around his back prevent Lucas from jumping in the contest.

Maybe you should stick to fishing

Gee the bloke on him was at least an inch and half shorter and must have had the biggest arms in the world to hold him down from in front...!

Hey Robin, are you serious?

The umpires are well Coached?
They do their best to have a consistant?
AND NO WAY PLAYERS MAKE MISTAKES....I NEVER

They arent consistant because they are with diferent blokes week in week out, and dont tell me its so they can get experience, put them with an expereinced bloke and leave them together all season THATS HOW YOU LEARN, just like leaving a kid at Full Back for the season and saying you may get some goals kicked on you but you will learn..
And when was the last time the Umpires Coaching Staff actually gave the Coaches some feedback or any direction advising them of what they are aiming for?????????

You have to be an Umpire OUT YOURSELF...!:cool::D

Spoke to 3 Greenvale players after the game and they all agreed that we got a shafted a little in the first Qtr.

Lets get one thing straight it probably wouldnt have changed the result but at least let the game unfold...

Well you seem to think that umpiring is a easy thing to do. Why don't you go down and give it a ago.

Coaching staff do a report on the umpires in their game each week which is sent into the league. Also coaches from all clubs have had opporunites to have umpire attend their training sessions and clarify any interputions they need cleared up.

The idea of have the same two umpire umpire together each week is silly it leave no room for umpires to go up between A Grade and B Grade and back to reserves if required. What happens if one umpire get injured, who does his partner umpire with for the rest of season?

As a coach, I have never filled in an umpire report. I better check with my club to see who fills out the report? I would actually like the opportunity to give the umpires some feedback (both positive & negative) in relation to their performance. Only problem with this system is whether the information is actually relayed to the umpires as it is written and/or whether any action is taken on the points that coaches believe need to be addressed.

I'm sure you would have noticed most umpires venture back into the rooms afterwards for a drink or two. I'm sure they would be happy to listen to what you have to say, assuming it isn't purely, totally and overally negative.

little underwhelming from the boy's on the w/e in what was probably the worst they've played so far but avondale looked decent in patches and had some very quick players who had a real good go at it in the first half but ran out of steam in the second
if your a past player get down to jp on the w/e as the club is putting out a jumper with every player to ever play a senior game on it (like geelong did last year) and they can be brought(not sure on the price though), always a good game against abers and we can expect the same on sat
just on abers and oaky i think the league should bring the sunday games back, with perhaps the top two teams from the previous year playing as they always got big crowds and its always good to be able to watch two rival teams go at it without missing your own team play, would love to seen marby and greenvale go at it in round five and it might be something to look at again:thumbsu:

Totaly agree the Oak Park/Abers games in the early 2000's were awesome, big crowds and good atmosphere. Only downside to Sunday football is people have to work on Monday and with the huge numbers of juniors playing these days the crowds could be effected by that, with lots of senior players and supports having kids playing junior or committments with the junior teams.

I all my time i have never ran away or scattered when a coach, player or club offical has come up to me after a game to ask me questions, it might just be the manner in which you approach your umpires, you have to remember that they too are human and deserve some respect regardless of how good a job they do. Im sure if there was a hugely pressing issue you were concerned about i'm sure there would be a way you could inform the apporiate people.

Bricksta is it true that you once tried out to become an umpire but could not master the art of running backwards, but they were very happy with the way you blew a whistle..!!

see avondale beat doutta's, just about puts them back in the frame for relegation, wouldn't that be nice!!
