EDFL Div 1 Discussion 2023

Yea sure I’m pissed off as we could easily have won the game.

We weren’t good enough on the day and paid the price, doesn’t mean we didn’t have calls go against us. Ive just found it to be a common theme in a lot of games won and lost.

Huge game next week and one I’m looking forward to for a couple of reasons.

If it makes u feel better umpiring at EK v GV was questionable for both teams. Missed blatant fouls and called things that were not even remotely a foul for both sides.

Umpiring standard has definitely dropped.

A frustrating day at Hillside was summed up best by a mark being paid well after the siren went. One full forward did as he pleased and the other was constantly manhandled until finally it got noticed all too late.

A bad loss for Craigieburn after last week's win. Predictable results in the other games.

The live scoring was frustrating and quite frankly useless. Do better, please.

hotkats you've gone strangely silent since leaking that information. Care to answer my question on how you became aware of what you posted?
All I’ve heard was the penalties imposed on Rupertswood and Keilor Park. I’m unaware of the process involved. Why the EDFL have not communicated is anyone’s guess however 2 club Presidents were freely discussing on Saturday.

What are the penalties? I saw something about Rupo 20k fine and -6 points per game. What about KP?

You seem upset. Not sure why. You won or maybe I hit a nerve. Had a Birds Eye view of the whole game. As I said, the last mark after the siren was a clear indication who was getting all the calls.
Auck just on Galea. Being a key forward focal point with a big reputation/resume dropping to B grade footy he will encounter different tactics unlike he has seen before. Plus throw in the delivery from his teammates nowhere like he got at keilor and then add in the B grade umpires and it well spell frustration for Galea. Oh and don’t forget what he will hear from some supporters in this division. He will kick bags however Galea has been known to become frustrated at times with delivery into him. HVing said this he will be great for this division and Rupo. Wish him all the best as his surely in the top 10 local full forwards over the past 10-20 years in this state or country even.

Covelli on the other hand is a different kind of key forward. Plus I get the feeling defenders are a bit cautious about the big fella. 😄🤣

Thats a shame,
Perhaps re watch the vision, you might see that Galea is not up to it at his age, he is not in his prime anymore, was giving the same as he got, he was holding and was held also. Was paid frees when they were there blatant. At the other end Covelli gave free's away for being too strong, very poor to pay a free kick against the stronger opponent just because he overpowers the full back. So dont have a sook about it all being one way.
Rupo just not up to it on the day, dont be a sore loser, its only round 1

I'm still curious to know why the player points have been removed, had an understanding all recruits DP/SA brought in gain a point for coming from a higher division WRFL / EDFL / RDFL all prem players @4pts instead of 3. Was interested to see how it stacked up without having to dive into it, some being VFL level, TAC cup, 3 clubs in 3 years , premium community players etc

There were also no proper umpires so the clubs had to supply them.
Massive concern if this is happening for a major metro league, even if it's Div 1, to have to resort to club umpires for a reserves match. Understandably I guess the senior appointments didn't feel up to doing a second game on that day (trust me it isn't that easy umpiring 8 quarters a day regardless of level), but I'm guessing this wasn't the only game in the competition to have this happen last weekend which has to now be number 1 priority for the league. No good adding teams to the league if they can't find officials to umpire the extra game per weekend that it creates.

(Oh and I can't do much about it, I'm already tabbed to umpire games on top of playing where I'm based)

Speaking of points they also removed the top 5 BNF extra point too. Which I think was a good change at least.

5th bnf shouldn’t come with an extra point, was ridiculous

Not sure if already mentioned, but Roxy v MV also had no field, boundary or goal umpires in the reserves game.

most div 1 & 2 reserves games had no umps, and also for most Woman's seniors games, seems the league have lost a lot of umpires, going to be a long year for clubs if they have to find umpires each week, its hard enough finding volunteers for the usual jobs. Yuo leave 1 task for the league to do and - nope cant get it done.... just pay them more money and be done with it

No BNF too 5 should incur any extra points. Totally stupid ruling in any sport.

Yep, good point. Maybe still glitches with the new design which needs to be ironed out.

There are a number of reasons we are short of umpires, you can offer as much money as you want but if they're not turning up, that's it.
Its up to the club administrators to get there back yards into shape and have a zero umpire abuse policy. Week in week out we see umpire abuse at senior and junior levels by club administrators, spectators, coaching staff etc and no one wants to call them out. Who would want their sons or daughters abused each week, would be hard to watch.
The EDFL tribunal letting coaches off from reports for "Umpire Abuse" doesn't help either.
Not just an EDFL issue.
Copy the below link into YouTube and it should give you an example of why sports world wide have a shortage of umpires/refs. (Ray Calls For Respect)

Fair call I agree however can’t see that ever being fixed realistically, however money fixes most problems. Give an umpire $150 a game they will turn up
