EDFL Div 1 Discussion 2024

How about the league just stops saying yes to every team that wants to cross over to the EDFL. If it makes sense, and it works for that particular season then of course make it happen. But right now Parkside would absolutely romp in div 2, which ruins div 2 for another 12 months. So that should not be considered. Would be a disgrace to do that to the current div 2 clubs. They would be suited to div 1, however div 1 has been messed around with enough with odd teams, uneven draws and double relegation drops for 2 years now. Finally back to 10 teams and an even fixture next season. The EDFL should be saying bad luck Parkside the timing is not right next year. Something tells me that wont happen.

In time we will have a div 3 and div 4 lol

they should start in div2 and work there way up. Although I don’t blame clubs for wanting out of WRFL
Why though?

The WRFL is the most competitive local comp in Melbourne, possibly Victoria.

Its so even and great to watch.

Last four flags won by four different clubs and last years wooden spooners were premiers this year.

That's what you call a competition.

Absolutely, great final series, 2 x 1 point finals plus a draw in WFNL D1.

Problems in EDFL with 9 teams in Prem reserves failing to score plus 4 forfeits. None in WFNL

Competitive now that DP have left the equation. Also depends on your definition of competitive, top clubs in premier division are very well run football programs which displays in how dominant they have been over the last 10 years.

Haven't watched a WRFL game in a while but it begs the question of why teams are supposedly looking for a move to EDFL.

$$$$ let’s see if it’s sustainable. They will be stronger in 2025.

Will be much stronger, good coach and plenty of young talent coming through. Expect they play finals at a minimum next year.

Early days but could be a very even competition next season …
  • Avondale will be strong if most retained but feel they still need a couple to push for a quick return to Premier. No coach yet ?
  • West Coburg seem to be sticking together so hard to see them missing finals, more likely top 3 again.
  • St.Albans played finals both season in EDFL and haven’t heard of any leaving as yet, expect they have more cash to splash as well. Need another quality avenue to goal and a classy mid to be a contender.
  • Hillside an interesting one, had a good mix of youth and experience this season but the older ones are starting to show their age. Mo Kak has a big network and club is financially sound so would expect to see some handy inclusions.
  • Oak Park were huge this year and adding Hotchkin to the ruck will help, not a star even in Div.1 but does make them a bit stronger.
  • Craigieburn are going for it. Loaded up with some really good recruits, have young talent and a good coach. Finals lock IMO.
  • Tullamarine will need McKernan to be any threat, losing too many players and one pointers that limits their ability to bring in too many. Few names floating around from Mores reserves won’t make much difference. Outgoing coach doing everything he can to ensure they go down. Tough gig for Carey coming in.
  • Moonee Valley are a watch at the moment, lots of noise about who might be coming back/in. They were really disappointing this year and hope to see them bounce back. Think finals would be a stretch.
  • Taylors Lakes got some handy ones coming in, and close with one that would be one of the best in the comp if they land him. Could be a bit of a surprise packet, can’t have them in the 5 but think they will definitely consolidate in Div.1.
  • Roxy Park been very quiet on the socials with new signings, Golding adds depth at most these days. Terra will need to land a few or face a real threat of relegation.

Will again be the best division in EDFL

Nice of you to say Stroker.

My son was absolutely pumped Josh signed again.
He is a star in the eyes of the Hillside juniors they love the bloke and he loves them and he gets people through the gate.
As good as he is of a player he’s an even better bloke.

MV will need to find a few recruits or face a relegation battle. A lot of talk on here about Covelli, Padmore being done… couldn’t have been further from true.

Big watch on them, Roxy and Tulla while everyone else appears to be chips in.
