Yeah not good news about the Coach but good on him for being so honest and hopefully he stays in the system somehow. It is 100% true about the 2 players leaving Avondale, what a joke to leave 2 weeks before the first game, for what to play in finals or MONEY. Money doesnt not mean you play finals, should have realised that from last year.

its ok in a way as, we (avondale) will take great pleasure in beating marby again this year with our small yet effective budget:D

we are in a praccy this week against darley (ballarat fl) come down and have a look, a nice test before the season proper

looking forward to the year ahead...

How about luke butters? Or Gareth Daley?

If i was a betting man (which i'm not by the way!!) I'd be having my hard earned on both those boys wearing the Marby Park jumper come round one.

As for players wanting to come to our club, we cant help that. We didnt approach them, they approached us.

It's also ironic how people take the moral high ground on here with innuendo that Marby are poaching players form other clubs this close to the start of the season. A bit of the pot calling the kettle black i say:thumbsdown:

Big news out of Marby today - They are going so awful after losing their coach, as well as many players walking out over summer - that they have gone and paid big $$ for Johnny Angel and Jimmy Fizz to try and plug some holes.

Avondale aren't happy, but in the same sense relieved to not have to find room to squeeze in two 30 year old chain smoking has beens, that have decided to do the dirty on a place that took them in when no one else would three years ago.

With all due respect, I'm not sure that the price agreed to is overly relevant unless they are contracted for reserves footy. With the sort of team that Marby have I wouldn't think they would figure in their best 21??? Could be wrong, we'll wait and see.

Fully agree with you. Thank heavens someone on here knows what they are talking about.

JA and JF are going to have a fun year in the two's being the old hacks they are....!!!

Johnny Angel has been in the top 5 goal kickers in A grade for the last 4 years in succession. Jim Fizz has been a 1's player at Avondale for the complete duration of his time hteir and is a quality back-man. If people don't think their departure is a big loss for the Heights then they are kidding themselves. Avondale a fumming (rightly so) over their departure and has a crisis meeting last night after training. Their must be something a little off with the Avondale culture if so many people want to leave. How many players is that now that have left from last years team? More than half of their starting 18 at least. I know they have recruited a lot of players but surely their must be something wrong when half of your team walks out including the captain and best and fairest winner.

How do you know about a crisis meeting after training, where you hiding in the visitors rooms. Of course it is a loss for Avondale and they are good players in there 30,s. But what does it say about them and the character they bring to Marby ? From what I have heard the Club are travelling well with 2 easy practice match victories and plenty of depth. It is a quality club with strong values and that is why it has lost a few players this year and a few of them have doubled there pay cheque and good luck to them. We all know money does not buy happiness and flags.

Heard a whisper Marby offered their senior coaching job last night to Kevin Morris - any updates ?

From all reports had 3 interviews with Keilor back in 08 but was felt that McGuane would be a better option.

Kevin Morris has an outstanding football resume and would be a massive inclusion if he decides to coach Marby. With Craig Clinic and Brodie Holland as his assistants could be exactly what Marby need.

So what are the practice matches this weekend???

Heard Keilor vs Strathmore mate at Keilor.

Abers are at home I think this week. Touched up Lalor and look much fitter than last season.

I have been told that the Avondale boys who left them purely was not money, but thought Avondale won't be a finals contender and want to play Finals.

Heard that Doutta's had about 10 out on the weekend vs Pascoe Vale and not to be judged on that performance.

You say Avondale Boys Johnny Angel and Jimmy Fiz didn't leave for money.... are you kidding? Apartly the ink wasn't even dry on minor payment cheque they received last week from last year when they shot through. The Avondale list has been settled for 4 months so they could have assessed finals prospects far earlier, not train with their "mates" knowing full well that they were going to do the "dash for cash" and leave 2 weeks out from start of season.
They should have made the call earlier.....but they were driven to get last year's money first. (The money amount wouldn't even cover a carton of smokes that they would go through in a week) This is the same drive that takes them to the cheque book at Marby. A person's actions tells you a lot about the person don't you think?

don't think so...payment meant to be picked up at AGM last year but no show by players. Never a question of not being paid (cost of a smoke carton). Paid as soon as requested..no questions. So look at the other issues mentioned earlier post.

so your telling me that they waited 4 months, did a full preseason of training, knowing that were going to take off all along, just as soon as they got there cash, which was apparently about the amount of a carton of smokes.:eek::eek::eek::D:D:D*
you are an idiot

Must agree FOOTY 1236. If those 2 players let Avondale Hts FC know they wanted to leave before getting their money owed from last year in August, I am sure they would of NOT received their money smoothly or even possibly at all.
As an Abers person I would not hesistate taking two quality footballers to make our list stronger and am sure most other clubs would accept them.
I think Avondale might of messed this up!

Not sure why someone would leave it this late to leave a club ....

Craziburn are at Sunbury i hear!

not sure about how many the stars had out, but they did have some out..!

Money Money Money its a dirty word in local football as far as i am concerned..!:cool:

Oak Park played Mernda (NFL Div2) on the weekend and smashed them by 15+ goals.

They are an A grade strength team! Will be very hard to beat this year!

Not because they beat Mernda but because of the style of footy they play and the size and fitness of their players. All big units, run all day, share the ball and use it well.

They could easily be competitive in A grade with the team they had on Saturday - and still had some very good players out (Razzo etc....)

A fair reminder of the difference in standard i believe between NFL and EDFL. Greenvale smashed Greensborough (NFL Div1) by about the same amount on the sunday!
if ur thinking essendon is stronger than northern ur a fool heidelberg would beat marby park or greenvale by 15 goals every week i have played in both comps

Mernda lost elimination final last year by 1 point to eventual losing grand finalists McLeod. You clearly no nothing about what your talking about. Maybe some research champ before you go slagging off other teams.

Am assuming you are either from the all conquering Heidelberg or Greenvale if your gonna make big calls like that?

will watch with interest to see if anyone gets close to oak park and even closer to see if you get a clue!!!
the top 3 sides will be as good as the best in the essendon comp heid nth heid mont

When comparing leagues I think you need to go past the best 1-3 teams in the A grade/Div 1 comp. If you compare the two leagues right through to the bottom of B grade you will get the true story, which is what Bezerk was getting at I believe. The strength of the A grade comp is probably best judged by the quality of the team that is relegated each year and over the last few years there have been some quality teams fighting to stay in A grade in the EDFL. Oak Park would have to be one of the best teams to be relegated from any A grade comp in a long time.... It also appears that Pascoe Vale will have some sort of say in keeping OP down this year too. There will never be a definitive way of comparing the leagues but in my opinion the EDFL has got a real argument.....
