Watched all the Strathmore Keilor game, my comments a little bit different to yours Footytripper.Footytripper said:Went and watched the first half of Keilor / Strathmore followed by the second half of Roxburgh park and Pacco.
Didn't think there was that big a crowd at Strathmore considering it is supposed to be the two big guns. Ground was a disgrace and resembled a sand pit. Council should be ashamed of its condition. Apparently they sacked the man doing the watering just after they top dressed the ground and it was not watered thus all the grass died.
Strathmore need to spend a little more money and pay their players to play defense as it seemed the majority of Keilors goals started in the back half of the ground and they ran it pretty well through the midfield to set up their goals.
Strathmore seemed to have it in the forward half much more than Keilor but Keilors forward setup and disposal seemed better than Strathmores who seemd to go wide a hell of a lot for a team wuith Winter and Harvey in the KP.
Did note a couple of players who appear on big footy regulary:
Quinn: Gun, superb tap ruckman. Gives his onballers an easy go. Should win medal easily
Harvey: 3 goal second term and looked very classy
Williams: Did the Hammy in the first couple of minutes but kicked a goal
Lindsay: Got plenty of it but will top the league in up and under bombs.
Stormont: Ran well off half back but disposal was very ordinary
Hoath: Moved well and as the third tall forward will be hard to match up on
Beazley: Pretty slow and got caught a lot
Tate; Got smashed early on when he didn't see a keilor player standing still in the middle of the ground
Cuffe: Took some strong pack marks and looked like he started to get into the game in the second quarter
Doona, have heard over the years that some clubs struggling to field U18's have offered inducements of various sorts for kids to come to the club. Motivation? Most likely avoid the fines for not putting a team on the gorund. Probably cheaper to pay them than the fine.Doona2 said:Two Broadford 3rds player have claimed recently they considered going down to Maribyrnong Park to play 3rds after they were offered a few $$$.Surely this cant be true . . . can some EDFL fan shed some light and say this doesn't happen in your league (paying 3rds kids).
I feel young blokes these days forget the importance of 3rds footy, aint it all about the final stages of development/learning of the game prior to graduating to senior ranks.

Quinn.
Bearing in mind all the lead up publicity on him, thought he was a bit disappointing. Yes he did win the taps, but did not really influence the game around the ground. From the boundary, did not seem all the big, tall but not a lot of bulk. Think it is a bit premature to have him winning the medal. Keilor lost Cooper, (ruckman) in the second quarter, very little opposition after that.
Harvey.
Ended up with 7 from probably around 10-12 possessions. Will be difficult for most teams to counter. Should win the goal kicking award.
Williams.
As stated, left injured.
Lindsay.
Did not think he got much of it in the first half, contrary to your view Footytripper. Had him down for 9 touches to half time. Got a bit more of it in the second half, but so did Rick Marcy his direct opponent. Did not hurt with his possies, most seemed under pressure.
Hoath.
Thought he played a top game. Dominant big man on the ground. Changed with Quinn in the ruck, and in my view, had a greater impact than Quinn. Spent more time on the ball in the second half.
Beazley.
A game to forget. No impact.
Goggins.
Not as prominent in posts leading up to the season, and game matched, not prominent. Not worth the reputed payments I have been told he is getting.
Walker.
Same as Goggins, missing.
Stormont.
Good game.
O’Neill
Played in the reserves.
Dale May, one of the ex juniors returning from the VFL had a good second half. Richard Little had a very good game.
Summary.
Lot of pre season hype surrounding the quality of Strathmore recruiting, but based on the first game, only real quality appears to be Quinn, Hoath and Harvey. Lindsay needs to show more. The rest, no more than average, or, on yesterdays form, below average a grade players. Have excluded Williams. He should be quality. O’Brien did not play.
Interesting match up in the centre. Holman and Gluschenko. Holman started well, Gluschenko slowly. Holman died out of the game after quarter time, whereas Gluschenko really came on. According to the Keilor stats guy, Gluschenko ended up with 34 touches for the game, Holman 16.
Brad Teal award votes for the game, Hoath 3, Gluschenko 2, Harvey 1.
Another observation. Crowd not large, and on the Strathmore side, subdued. Not the usual parochial stuff that you get at Strathmore. After game celebration also very mild.
Understand that the above is based on one game only, and things will change as we go along. May well have to retract some comments on some of the players.
Agree with Footytripper, condition of ground abysmal. League officialdom not happy and want Strathmore to move.

Dusters said:Fair post there Deefer, you sound like you did the stats for the game.
deefer does that mean when these recruits start firing that no team will get close to them? to win by a couple of goals and only have a few players playing well i would hate to think what they will do when these players fire.

Oak Park were about 7 goals up when I left half way through the 3rd qtr.
Very slick unit, disciplined and moved the ball well. Obviously lost a few players but will still trouble the top sides.
Was that Ziros No.11 who returned to play again? He kicked 4-5 and looked really polished

Any other stats worth sharing for the game? High possession getters?

Keilor will defintely need his size if they are to compete with Quinn, Hoath, Winter etc etc....
Hard Ball Get said:Sat back and read all the poasts regarding the West Coburg issue and I find it absolutly staggering that the player was not sacked. An absolute disgrace and it speaks volumes about the people that make decisions there.
Allears said:He will be a welcome addition to Keilor's line up l think, l have played against the boy and l would have to say l rate him higher than A.Winter from Strathmore.
