EDFL Premier Discussion 2024

EDFL is 100% over rated …the top club rape and pillage the poor neighbouring clubs without a conscience ……then brag about an elite junior program where they charge ridiculous fees to rank n file kids to cover the free fees and merch to get these kids to the club

It’s laughable !

How do the top cubs do this? can you give me an example?

Top clubs(Mores/Abers/Keilor) know going into the season they are strong in u/14/16/18 and will win most games which gives them the option to "develop" as they don't have to worry about the results(winning like the rest of the clubs who's efforts are exhausted by ensuring there is enough numbers to field a team, provide off field support and being competitive). They are and have been in a position to do this over many years so that's what they offer, that's the reality. Whatever term is being used to describe juniors moving to these clubs it doesn't matter. The real question that needs to be asked is

1. Considering this is local community football, is the behavior of these clubs moral & ethical?

Some say yes, some say no that's the discussion. But the reality is while juniors are free to move to these clubs the competition is eroded and becomes boring because there are only a handful of clubs that can really compete (juniors and seniors).

Mores, Abers and Keilor believe its moral and ethical. The rest of the competition not. Should be zones for kids until under 18's or restrict junior teams to 2 per club as a maximum

It was discussing the WRFL being comparable to the EDFL. Joke
Fair enough, a few points were made to qualify their remark that the EDFL isn't much better than the WRFL, it probably comes down to how you interpret the statement.
Comparing the results/ladders of the comps, the WRFL does appear to be a much more even/competitive comp at present.
Meanwhile, people have hyped the EDFL as being the best around for some time which has never really made any sense..

2 teams is a starting point and this will at least ( albeit not the cream ) allow the overflow to play in neighbouring clubs
But it doesn’t resolve the issues we are experiencing and will continue to as long as this league doesn’t investigate the process and put in place a system. I’m sure if the 14-15 year coerced to move clubs will be a 5 point player once they get to senior level it would definitely change the way clubs think.

My thoughts on how to resolve the same 4 teams dominating is to look at the juniors first and foremost.
  • All first team junior teams play with 30 points
  • If you live within 5 km of your club you are a 1 pointer, 5-10ks = 2 pointer, 10-15ks = 3 pointer, greater than 15ks = 4 pointer
    • Some exceptions apply for clubs outside the metro area - eg the Sunbury clubs
  • if you transfer to another EDFL club, you become a 6 pointer. A players points reduce by 1 each year. Exemptions apply if you can demonstrate you are moving clubs because you have moved homes or other reasons (at discretion of EDFL)
    • So if a player moves from Greenvale to Pascoe Vale, he would become a 9 pointer unless he is switching clubs because his family have moved homes.
  • No more than 3 junior teams per age group

Four clubs dominating? Who is the 4th club?

Can we all take a chill pill, my brothers and sisters. We are one great community. Tension is in the air and bodies are flying everywhere. MPMonkeys has given us an idea on how to better equalize the state of the league in junior footy like he's the prime minister delivering a speech on the budget. Clearly the league and AFL Victoria would be keeping tabs on multiple leagues and outliers (example: Keilor, Heidelberg, Old Brighton) so instead of pointing fingers and accusing teams of going against the rules lets just sit back, grab a beer and watch the thrilling drama televsion series which is EDFL Premier: starring Mighty Mick, Awesome Ash, The Emperor Pat and much more. Enough of a rant, lets get into the PREVIEWS.

1. Last week I successfully tipped Keilor would reach 200 points vs EK and in the words of my professor back in the 1940s "you don't fix what isn't broken" and that's what I will be doing. Mighty Mick to raise the bat Don Bradman style as Keilor score 200 points for a second consecutive week.
2. The griff didn't beat the jets last week, the jets beat themselves. They are a run and gun side who are fantastic to watch and should be put on a pedestal for how Essendon District Football is played. In saying that, if they couldn't finish off strathmore then they have no chance against a pissed off Pascoe Vale. I spoke about this in my reviews but the game plan is simple for Tudor. Kick multiple goals - they're undefeated this year when doing so. I'm tipping that streak to continue despite a gallant effort by Greenvale.
3. It's my love child against the anti hero. This will be a contender for match of the season. the Essendon Doutta Stars have impressed me so much this year, I am so proud about how they've gained respect in this competition. Unfortunately, Daw is the name, Winning is the aim. They'll need all 18 players manning Daw up but it still won't be enough. Majak to kick another bag as Deer Park will have the fat lady singing, collecting another four points.
4. East Keilor vs Airport West. Who is going to spend their afternoon watching this. The two cellar dwellers of premier going toe to toe in a lightweight bout. I am tipping the eagles to fly higher then they have before this year and to smoke EK to secure their much needed first win of the year.

I am in the City of Churches this week to watch Carlton vs Port Adelaide so Griffen Den bar will be quieter this week. Knowing my luck they'll pull my name out the week i am not there. Anyhow there is no "Whisp game of the round" as I won't be attending any this week. But... King's Birthday Weekend will be met with two sides I am critical of at Windy Hill in which I will be seated for (except when I go fetch a freshly cold VB out of Kevin Sheedy's fridge). The preview for that game will be live next week.

Seem to really pump up the Douttas every week. They are 3-4 with wins over the third last, second last and last teams.

Well seeing most tipped them to be relegated and not getting blown away by Abers or Strathmore seems like they are going ok. I’d be more worried about APW who talked themselves up and spent a fortune on recruits for not much return.

Is there any case for father/son father/daughter allowances where the dad may have played 100 games in this grading?
