Just because he played twos doesn't mean he can't coach senior football if that's what you're alluding to.
Shows he is a good clubman and his ego doesn't get in the way of helping out the club.

We aren’t talking about chopping out the water boy for a week or two, it’s the head coach role of a Top Div EDFL side.

Yeah, playing twos has no baring on taking on a senior coaching gig but he’s had almost zero experience in the 1’s playing system and only two years in a coaching system as an assistant and now has been given the reigns of a Top Div EDFL side.

And just to clarify, I’m not suggesting he can’t succeed but you can’t deny it’s a very unusual appointment.

I would imagine his brother will be heavily involved, also would have thought Dale May would have wanted the gig.

I’d think if he needs a fair bit of help then it’s the wrong appointment.

Who knows though he may have ticked all the boxes.

Good communicator, tactical nous and a strong modern game plan is usually what appeals to strong clubs and he may have nailed all those things in the interview.

It’s a huge risk as Strathmores list looks pretty healthy and could be primed for a flag. Time will tell I guess.

Who’s the new President

Just a few points SFC

- As well as being Assistant to Nathan Grima for the past two years, Matt Horne's role increased markedly this year with Narni playing a number of games. As well as match day coaching, Matt took on the majority of game day addresses to players. He is very impressive to listen to. Not a ranter, clear and concise with his message and shows a great appetite for the contest.

- Matt applied for the role and went through the process just like the other applicants. A separate committee was formed to find a new coach. Neither his dad (club secretary for literally decades) or brother were involved in the decision making process.

- The new Strathmore President will be announced after the AGM on Tuesday

Andrew Browne taking on a playing/senior coaching role at Mansfield Football Club, for the 2019 season.
Huge loss for Keilor.
Certainly will be a huge loss. Browne has been a wonderful player for Keilor for past 6-7 seasons. The best ruckman, and one of the very best players in the EDFL over that period of time. 2018 cruelled by injury. Along with Galea was the major factor in Keilor’s 2016 Grand Final win.

I applaud the mores for the appointment.. Too much emphasis on these high profile coaches who get paid truck loads & continue to fail to deliver - Hardingham, Chapman, Grima ect.ect.. Give me Horne & Terra everyday over those other high profile hacks..
Mark my words - Laidley will be the biggest flop since Cupido at APW..

Think you’re being somewhat unkind to refer to Hardingham, Chapman and Grima as “hacks”, seemingly on the basis that they are high profile ex AFL players. Mick McGuane, Steve McPherson, Brodie Holland and Anthony Rock have each won 2 flags, and Digby Morrell 1, as coaches in the EDFL in the past 15 seasons. Would you also refer to them as hacks?

Okay none of the 3 you mentioned won a premiership as coach, but Chapman and Grima at least, didn’t perform too badly. Runners up and 4th for Chapman, 4th and 3rd for Grima.

Totally agree with applauding the Mores for the appointment, they are a serious football club that wouldn’t take a decision like this lightly and I’m sure everyone down there including the players are happy with the decision.

But couldn’t agree less with your follow up statement, to compare Laidley to Cupido is fairly harsh. Quite often in local football we see ex AFL players taking on coaching roles with various levels of success but to get someone who has actually coached at AFL level is a huge get and great for the league.

I agree “Hacks” is harsh, it’s all about the list V injuries, there’s only 1 winner each year, the rest are losers 2 or 10th

Hey Survey, keen to hear your thoughts on why Laidley will be a fail? Not agreeing or disagreeing with you as it obviously yet to play out however from the outside looking in they’ve got a strong young list (think 7 19s played senior footy this year), a generally young group as it is and you’d think they’d recruit well in the offseason to attempt to get back to finals.

I think they’re well placed for a coach like Laidly to come in and really implement some strong match day strucutual stuff which Castello lacked which will ultimately make them better.

Anyway keen to hear your thoughts mate..

Doesn’t mean that at all. It means not going out and recruiting big names on big money and trying to be patient and building towards playing A grade finals again, it’s been a very long time.
No where did I mention they would knock back strong players, and I DID say they are talking to a lot potential recruits to improve the list. All the boys that have left have been contacted and most not interested in returning I’m hearing. Geoff did recruit them in the first place via rep teams so they aren’t all Douttas kids at heart.
Either way EDS’ side this year as weak as it was would still have APW well and truly covered so relegation won’t be on the cards IMO
I can tell you one that says the club hasn't spoken to him. So how many more are there?

Have you ever heard him talk? You need to have the ability to motivate at Local level , he just doesn't have that.. Yes he coached AFL, but talk to anyone(ask McIntosh & Farrito) who was involved with him over that period and they will all tell you he is no good.

EDS signed a couple of good sized key position players. I’ll let someone closer to the club put out their credentials.

Laidly must have done something right as he help guide a club that has not seen a premiership in 50 plus years to one this season as the head of coaching in the Nepean league Just saying how about giving him a chance before you start bagging him out .All leagues need this sort of coach coming in to raise the standard of local footy .

Looks like Pacco spending big again. Will they fit all these players in the cap and under points.

Big recruits and no doubt play for the luv of the jumper.

Douttas recruiting key position players is what they need as besides there ruckman were very small.

Generally pretty quite recruit wise on here besides PV recruits. Any truth the best chf from GFL is heading to Keilor?
