Why are you blaming AH? I have no association with them but there were four clubs that asked for points relief, so why is everyone pointing the finger at them. I believe that only asked for points relief for one year, now all clubs will be if it. Good to see the EDFL starting the realise that there are more than 3 clubs in the competition. I remember the days when Aberfeldie and Greenvale we’re struggling clubs, it all goes in circles and in a number of years time they will be at the opposite end of the spectrum, nothing to do with the club it’s just they way things go. I understand that those clubs that are dominant now want to stay dominant, but it will turn, let’s see how they react to an uneven competition when the tables are turned. I say good on AH, Glenroy, APW, etc they are all fighting to be competitive, just like the top teams did when they were down the wrong end of the ladder.

Going to be a long time coming before the bid three are struggling. Agree a more even comp would be great. See the Ballarat league, top 4 equal on wins, 5th & 6th one game behind.
As mentioned don’t see why those who have done the yards in term of building junior pathways should be penalised.
AFL give a leg up to struggling clubs without taking anything away from the top clubs.
Tough one to get equal.

Demographics play a huge part in junior numbers

Jacana Northern saints Hadfield Maybe even include Roxy all outside that Essendon bubble of upper middle class Anglo families that inhabit the Essendon area

Then clubs like craigieburn hillside east Sunbury and potentially burnside all in areas with vast numbers of kids in their catchment areas of new housing with young families

Gee you’re making some huge assumptions and entering into some subjective and indeed controversial statements, 3040, 3039, 3041 etc have a very broad denomination

Just saying that clubs in certain areas many of the kids in the area footy isn’t their number one or two sport for that matter

The Essendon bubble doesn’t have that problem to the same extent

Like I said demographics is probably the biggest factor in junior numbers

Not saying all clubs aren’t working hard to produce junior players because the writing is on the wall without juniors you’re going to die a slow death

Are you saying there is no correlation between the upper middle class around the Essendon area

As opposed to areas where kids that footy isn’t the number one sport? In areas with an aging population in some cases?

I ran a school clinic this year small skills session to attract kids to play footy one kid out of the entire school played footy... the rest of the kids you could see had never touched a footy in their lives

I also work at a school that doesn’t have a football team but has four soccer sides that are actually playing a fairly high level where at lunch times there aren’t any kids kicking the footy and the soccer pitches are full

Someone produces actual evidence and you respond like that.

That is the response of one of the school kids he's teaching that didn't get their own way.

Take it easy on him

I actually think it’s because he’s probably never had to deal with the problems that face the clubs that I’m referring to

I have and it’s a constant shit fight to fill the junior ranks find sponsorship compete with other clubs for a shrinking player pool

Kudos to the well run clubs they are successful for a reason but fact of the matter is the kind of people that are involved at abers keilor strathmore etc aren’t the same level of business acumen as jacana nthn Saints haddy etc and the results show

Donald Mcdonald will coach again in 2020

I’m sure potato chops will have something to say about this since he loves throwing cheap shot at Avondale.

Roxy have a decent area to draw from. There numbers have declined over recent years. Why is that??
Let’s not put them in the same basket as some others. Roxy dropped the ball amongst other things. I could go on but let’s be truthful here they have a decent area to draw from if they want to set standards.

I’m sure UptheRox will agree but probably defend his club.

Wasn’t having a dig at any club... all clubs Work hard to get kids through the door no doubt

Yep we all work hard.

You're better than that turbo. What big area do Roxy have to draw from. Greenvale and CB were big established clubs when we came into the comp. The demographic in Roxy has shifted big time. Most in the area are refugees from Iraq and the like and the kids have zero interest in AFL. Roxy United soccer club has gone from nothing to enormous in 3 years. It's because (as v I've said here before) the AFL dropped the ball in our area and stopped programs in schools and soccer took over. The local Catholic primary put a synthetic soccer oval in not a footy oval to appease the masses. Ask people who live in the area and they will tell you.

Have we done everything right? If course not and we're looking you rectify that but don't bang on about us having a huge area to draw from. That is just rubbish

Spot on. Even Craigieburn is changing very quickly to what it was 10 years ago.

Easy to pass judgement while driving in and out of the area, but the facts are times are changing and following footy just because is ending.

Its not about having cheap shots but what gives AH the right over anyone else to play in Premier Div.
They have U19 & U17 and if they keep all their players this year they will gain 15 points approx from keeping these guys.
It was AH that exploited a rule on the say of an inexperienced EDFL administrator , its been AH at all EDFL meeting crying poor.
Interesting that the coach now wants to stay as they have survived relegation . Pretty poor
Im sorry Sneaky but if this club wants to infest the EDFL with their poor culture we dont have to agree to it

Totally agree. I would be absolutely filthy if my club ( perhaps playing with 42 points ) got relegated, whilst another club playing with 47 points, managed to stay in the top division. Sometimes a struggling club needs to go down a division to find their proper level.

Not fair on all the other clubs, or the integrity of the competition to artificially prop up any club to the detriment of the others. Socialism at its worst. Might work ok in a 1 division comp, or in the bottom division of a multi tier competition, where a team is getting flogged by 30 goals every week. However ridiculous to implement in the top grades. Potentially keeping teams in Premier grade and division 1, when they don’t really warrant being there.

Dean Galea hamstring won’t play this week and 50/50 first final.

You post something football related that has huge repercussions for the upcoming finals seasons and everyone is too busy banging on about points!

Obviously a massive loss, who will step up to cover him?

Unfortunately Stax this competitions management is at its lowest and changes at the top MUST be the highest priority.

Letting EK go unpunished in div1 set the tone early on, so did we expect anything to happen against AH. Answer NO.

Anybody get along to junior finals. WELL what a total shambles that was.
- Presentation of medals post game done with no stage, no area roped off, no microphones. It was a disgrace.. But they are happy to charge you $10 and reap money from the average person.
Clubs like Greenvale having finals on both ovals are making good profits from the canteen so surely the club and EDFL can provide better facilities.👎

*from memory Glenroy do it well. Club officials on hand wheeling out a stage and set up the post game stuff. Yes they make a profit from the canteen but there committee is willing to put in the work. 👍

- league officials wearing league jackets just standing in one spot doing basically nothing. Watching club officials doing the wrong things yet say or do nothing..FFS grow some..👎

- league finals records handed out not up to date with kids names. That’s real poor. 👎

- One league official was doing timekeeping for a club. Surely that’s not a good look. His there to do a role (and I believe getting paid) yet is doing timekeeper for a club. Not acceptable in my book to wear 2 jumpers.👎 Thoughts Stax!!

EDFL have a decent bank balance so surely they can appoint people with management and leadership experience. Currently it’s very poor..

The Galea issue has repercussions for only 1 Club this year , the points issue will affect all clubs for the entirety of the competition.

Good on Donald for wanting to stay, credit to him. obviously sees something in the club. I don’t know any other EDFL club that would not engage his services if he was available. Only former AFL coach in the competition.

Dare say he is staying for a reason, rumour has it that at least three key players from big clubs are on the move to AH next year. I also hear Glenroy and Marby have snagged a couple already as well. Along with those who apparently are committed to Div 1 clubs, seems to be quite some movement away from the big four
