Heathcote league makes a call and cancels season. Although we all want footy back I wonder if instead of waiting for EDFL to make a call, that an individual club will make a call under the banner of Duty of Care? I’m tipping a few clubs will follow if the first club comes out, especially taking into account the viability for the future with funds at the forefront of their existence.

Doona, if they decide to play and certain clubs say no there is HUGE implications as they don’t pay affiliation fees all players will be deregistered and can therefore move to other clubs that could be playing. This is the big concern.

AFL Vic or your league could easily make it a permit situation if some leagues play on, and that way players can go for their little 7-8 game season with the knowledge they are still permitted to return to their current clubs if contracted for 2021.

I believe a club may have made that call and have informed the EDFL.

Travis Jorgenson. Should be top 10. But because he doesn’t have any of the individual honours like the others was overlooked. From 2010-2014 was probably the best play in the league.

Agree, Jorgo was an unbelievable talent. Could play the loose defender role better than anyone I’ve seen play. Could also match up on small and talls. Gun!!

It’s strange that the minimum requirements was 4yrs playing. 3 years is plenty for local footy.
It also knocks out some outstanding players including Ayres as was mentioned in the article.
When he was at his best, he was a level above everyone else in the comp.

Under the agreement, home-and-away games for senior and junior football must finish before Sunday, September 27 and junior finals must be concluded before Sunday, October 11.

Senior finals must be wrapped up by Sunday, October 18.

But no football games can be scheduled on any of the 21 Premier Cricket grounds after October 1.

CV will have the option of starting the Premier Cricket season on Saturday, October 10.

If true and if the season does go ahead, the league won't be able to use Windy Hill for any Finals/Grand Finals after October 1st nor use Greenvale as a finals venue either.

A lot of players would rather play for free than not play at all... I’d say clubs can’t afford not to play if there is a season, no doubt a lot of players will leave and find a club that is playing
I think some players would be willing to play for free but if offered overtime at work they would take it rather than play.

Yeah and once they knock off at 1pm they can head to the ground and be given a little respite by the coaches to arrive strip and warm up in time.

It raises a point of can we push senior footy back to 2:30 start? Allow for 30 minute change over between games and take some pressure off the volunteers?

I’m guessing footy will have to have somewhere between 30-40 minute break between each games.
shorten the quarters and start earlier

Unfortunately there will be no season for EDFL, WRFL, NFNL, EFL.

Why do people keep saying players will play for nothing. Even if you got 9 games in there is still a salary cap to work to so players will be paid. Oh and if you believe the clubs saying players will play for free you are kidding yourselves. The stars of this competition would get a one off payment ( let’s say sign on) which will cover there payments outside the cap.
If anyone thinks the top echelon of players at premier (and a couple of div1 clubs) will play 9 games for no match payments your delusional..

Metro different to country but we all claim to be heavily invested local footy folk, and a lot of the stresses and strains in volunteers are parallel

Worth a listen ...

I had a listen to this and Peter Cole makes a lot of sense i hope somebody from the EDFL listens to this .the only 2 parts not relevant where the salary cap dollar figure and gate takings .

Is anyone able to tell me why we are asking all clubs to go back to training (once the club goes thru the mass of works needed to allow them into their amenities) when the clubs still don’t know if the year is going ahead in a revamped form. It’s a lot of work for all clubs when some of the clubs have voiced their choice of not playing in 2020.

Some guidelines suggests to rock up fully in kit Under 10s style

Given the amount of younger folk who don’t scrub these days that’s one of the easiest ones to control ha ha ha :D:p

I haven’t read anywhere that requests clubs return to training.

AFL VIC have broadcast info as it comes via Govt more than likely to appease the weight of calls etc they’re all getting smashed with.

What clubs and individuals choose to do with said info is up to them, but as far as I know (from emails etc I get) nothing has been suggested outside of protocols should myself as a coach, or my parents, players “choose” to partake in something activity based.

Turbo , It does not mean the season get cancelled becuase of zero player payments, Yes the standard will drop with zero player payments with some players refusing to play. But if the players are relying on playing local footy for $ as an income , then they got a problem.

MN, hey mate I was alluding to clubs saying all players have said the will play for no payments. I don’t believe that for a second! Yes some might take a cut under a renegotiation but clubs will still need to find 50k just for match payments plus I’m sure a few clubs (incl div1) will pay more just for success but could dig themselves a huge hole.
I’m thinking just to get 9 games in your outgoings will be bigger than incoming $$ so that’s what clubs are afraid of and rightly so. Even temporary fencing won’t be cheap. Some clubs like Marby “might” not even be allowed to put a fence around. Just another headache

Fantastic for you all if it gets there, especially your respective committee’s, volunteers and Covid19 Officers too as you’d be rooted without them.

So would it roughly be ... 8-9 rounds plus finals?
Aiming to wrap up 2nd/3rd Satdy In October yeh?

Assuming league fees be then roughly half what ya’s normally pay?

There a chance AFL Victoria will overrule everyone and say $0 player payments in 2020 and $50,000 in 2021 for a full season (premier division) and all clubs have to comply due to the shortage of total income generated by the clubs. If any clubs are paying players they are breech of the salary cap and if caught normal sanctions will apply, hopefully it won’t be slap on the wrist again like a few EDFL clubs have received in the past.

Regarding the fence that would be council issue to let clubs put a fence up, a bit of pressure from Dan Andrews, AFL Vic and EDFL the council will buckle , Marby just had a fence around the new surface of the oval and got taken down recently by the council.

Don’t think council will pay for the fence round the ground. It will be on the clubs as they rent the ground.
Happened few years ago at Doyle st with Avondale heights Soccer club. Council approved a fence around the ground but club had to pay for it. But can’t see AFL vic or government will mandate that grounds be fenced off.
