if i'm not mistaken the clubs foot all of the bill (or close enough to it) for the umpires anyway don't they?
Yes the clubs pay 100% of the umpires pay, so not sure why the league are jumping up and down its not their money! And now there are less umpires the clubs are actually saving more than the 11% pay cut, by getting parents and good loyal club persons to umpire games

Avondale a good chance to go 5-2 with Craigieburn, Glenroy and Douttas coming up.

great effort by AH and great for the competition. Only went down by a kick in rd1 to PV as well. They will flog Craigieburn & Douttas, and you would think firm favs to roll Glenroy. Puts them right in the race for the top 4 along with Keilor, SM, Abers, GV and PV. Having 6 teams fighting for the finals is refreshing and hears hoping the race runs into the last few rounds.
marby got a big scalp on the weekend but I don’t consider them in the finals race, already safe from relegation fight.
Glenroy battling but will hold off the bottom 2. Reckon Douttas were lucky they got C’burn in round.1 and got a good win, if C’burn can set themselves I think they can roll Douttas in the return game, Douttas losing players with injuries and are in for a very long season

Pretty sure I told you all Avondale will be decent and top 6. Good balanced list and players who have stuck together for a few years now.
Injuries maybe one thing but the score is like the losses they got done by Keilor and Abers in 2019. They are a young side with a few old heads. They need to go after some big names and certainly some tall players. They should beat C’burn again which will keep them up but a long season a head if they can’t turn it around.
I see the EDFL have finally put up the tribunal results for 2021. But only for the most recent round, not rounds 1,2 and 3. Club umpires escort has been suspended for remainder of the season for “umpire abuse”.

sounds like its over, reports are both the board and UA have come to an agreement on a new % cut for the season

umpires dispute has been resolved, they’ve accepted a 5% pay cut this year and 5% next year

If true that’s a disgrace from the club. How does the league tolerate that. Only a $500 fine and suspended rest of season. Poor standards set!
Probably highlights the reason we don’t have enough umpires.
Suspend them for 5 years and if it’s a club official of that standard fine them $2000-5000 to se standards.
I see a runner from Westy was suspended for 2 weeks for abuse. FFS only 2 weeks. Should be minimum of a year imo.

Just had a look at the results of the Premier Division. I didn't realise how stacked Uni Blues are. How do they do it? Some of those boys could be getting good cash elsewhere.

Watching Ch31 and NOT good media for the EDFL regarding umpires. Surely the pressure has to be on Kyte or whoever employs these incompetent people. Umpires asked to take a 20% pay cut then 15% then 12.5% then 10%. Umpires could boycott games in coming weeks. Apparently it’s the decision of the EDFL management. Surely can’t be due to the clubs as they are happy to pay players decent coin.
At present the umpiring standard has dropped most likely due to a fall in numbers but also due to getting paid less. Also are they getting the appropriate training and leadership??
