To be fair wallan have done well out of craigieburn viani, boyall, davies,Stewart,Mackertich, bonnello to name a few there’s more nugget would of had 18 since he has been coach of wallan
From afar Nolan does seem to have a thing for ex C'burn & G'vale players.
While it may not be a particularly great look for a former club captain to recruit from the club, it's ultimately up to clubs to build a culture that sees players stick by the club rather than heading for the exit at the first sign of adversity.

The Bonello brothers are Greenvale juniors, Stewart a Northern Saints, EDS junior, the rest aren't "these or they" players.
Yhea don’t know why I said Jarryd but was positive Stewart came from craigieburn to wallan same time Nolan became coach nevertheless wallan have done really well out of craigieburn

Wallan and Craigieburn have had a relationship for many many years with players moving between clubs.goes way back to when Gabby Nolan coached Wallan

I think you and I might both know why Shaun followed Nolan to Wallan. As I said though, there is nothing to support Turbo's comment that this is an historical thing.

Wondered down to Glenroy yesterday expecting to see a good game of footy. The Roys were very ordinary to say the least and going to be a long year down there on yesterdays form, On the other hand Strathmore were very impressive. Theyre ball movement and spread from the contest was first class and could do some serious damage on the big Windy hill ground come finals time

Credit to Glenroy for putting on another excellent Anzac Day. Respect

Turning into another season of a 3 horse race with the possibility of Pacco challenging if they get their act together. Seriously , this competition is broken... And the thing is , Abers, Keilor and the Mores have by far the best junior transitional programs to the seniors than any other club so there is no end in sight of this domination...
Let me say I have nothing but Respect for the top 3 clubs for putting themselves in the position they are, Marby are getting there with their huge junior numbers also... I am concerned with clubs like Doutta's , Avondale & Roy's who are never the worst but I can not see in the future when they may be pushing for a Flag... Supporters & Volunteers will drop off when there is no hope of success , I know at least 2 of the clubs are hanging on by a shoe string when it comes to volunteers running the place on a Saturday..... The gap every year just get's bigger

you are so spot on. This is a major concern for clubs and should be a concern for the EDFL and for the councils in which they reside.

Maybe those clubs should of paid over the top for players like Abers and Keilor years ago (still are, wink wink).

Wasnt disrespecting Glenroy in any way, just stating what I saw on the ground that’s all
Tragic, I’m certain Star wasn’t inferring that you were disrespecting Glenroy. He “liked” your post. I believe that he was just emphasising how much he respected Glenroy FC for hosting another great Anzac Day event.

Some great people up at the Roys led by a great respected President. They have turned the club into a welcoming place. One of the best social rooms in the comp. However it’s in a perfect spot unlike most other venues. 😄😄

As Stax said, no issue with your post.

I actually thought Glenroy were very competitive early in both games and are better than their performance yesterday.

Notwithstanding the pressure will be greater with the top tier clubs, Strathmore were incredibly 'clean' and really good to watch.

you are right Survey and the problem will only deepen until the EDFL puts limits on junior teams and forces kids to go to clubs with few players. The other way to resolve the issue is to still have 3 divisions .top div would be premier with 6 clubs but no promotion or relegation Abers ,Keilor Greenvale Pacco Marby and Strathmore. Then we have two divisions of basically 12 teams .Div 1 and Div2. two grand finalists from div 2 go up and bottom 2 div 1 go down. Let the 6 premier clubs recruit who they like and have as many juniors as they want. People will soon get sick of watching the same old teams and the other 24 dont have to worry about matching them . Just sayin!

What’s even worse is the arrogance of the top clubs juniors. Sides winning by big margins in div1 and mouthing off at 1/2 time. Pure arrogance.

Or maybe just have 2-3 sides in div1 juniors. They can play each other every week. That will be boring.. 😂😉

I’m not sure of the answers mate but I think investing a few less $$ into your senior program and putting it into juniors is the way to go forward. Possibly paying good qualified junior coaches who are not parents. This might work. More professionalism and open minds. Might be a good advertisement tool to get talent in.

McGuane also coaches a junior team and im sure that has attracted a few across.

The landscape needs to change and limiting clubs sides is not viable for kids as they should be entitled to going to whichever club they like. I seroiusly think paying coaches will get the right people in and lift the standards. Even if it’s just the top division of each age group to start with.

I hear what you say turbo but if teams are limited at each clubs juniors then unless you are first in, kids will need to find an alternative. No one is stopping them from playing on weekends. I have been coaching for 10 years and lucky to get a free beer at end of season. Its not all about money but opportunities and respect. I am constantly suprised about the mindset of not only boys l coach but the opposition whether getting beaten or winning. Expectations are unrealistic and the respect ideals in life are gone. Even worse when we get an umpire telling boys before a weekend game that if they swear or answer back they will be crucified. How do you deal with crap like that.

I guess we just have to disagree in part. I just don’t like dictating where kids should play. Maybe the live close to a ground. There dad played there. They want to go and challenge themselves and play div1. Lots of options.

Hey mate, I would hope you get a club polo and a free appreciation/volunteers function for your efforts. I think a small thank you is important.

got the club polo but l look like michelin man in it .my thank you is from smiles at end of year especially when in finals. cheers

The only answer is other clubs need to get better with there junior programs & how they strategically build up the club. A few clubs in the EDFL should be better positioned to be more competitive with junior programs, but aren't being ran as good as the Top 3.

It's tricky, kids playing footy at one of the "big clubs", trumps them not playing at all.
What needs to stop is the self-congratulatory bs of clubs that have been dealt strong hands. (Admittedly which often comes from those outside the operations of said club)

For example..
Abers: EKC, St Bernard's & PEGS nearby.
Greenvale: soon to have 2x secondary schools
My club, North Ballarat, certainly benefits from being in an educational hub.
It would take gross incompetence for some of these clubs to not maintain a decent pathway for their juniors.
While AFLhq have a lot to answer for with regard to capturing the attention of the next generation, more needs to be done across the board to get people playing the game.
Rather than bitching & moaning, find a way to contribute to a positive outcome.

Can blame Football Vic, the points system simply ensures that only the strong teams with big jnr programs can compete.

If we can create Zones for primary schools, why not have zones for local footy clubs.

The issue is that these strong clubs become a 'status' for the parents and the kids. The parents are prepared to travel past several 'less desirable' clubs to ensure that they can tell people within there social circle they play at Abers/strathmore/keilor etc and get to mix and network amongst those other families. The parents would rather their kids play in the 3rd team of a strong club like Abers than the 1st at Avondale, despite this being their local club.
