Spoke with a Strathmore players who say he is a step above anyone else they have had and even when he played WAFL. The players rated him super highly for the way he analyses the game.. This was over 12 months ago so perhaps things have changed.

He is an outstanding coach, very well prepared, an excellent communicator and has a terrific record. Indeed I think one needs to be good at this level.

Hey Stax, can I ask was May an assistant playing coach? Also who were the assistant coaches up to now and are they staying on? It's unusual in today's footy that a captain takes over as it's normally an assistant coach or the reserves coach (if the reserves coach is qualified) stepping in. But I guess the club knows what's best to take them forward.

On Clinnick I reckon he will pop up somewhere next season.

Turbo, I think it's semantics in some respects but no, May was not a playing assistant but it would be common to see him talk to a line at a quarter break. He knows his stuff.

Jimmy House is the assistant (first year at the club). The other assistants are Reserves Coach Ben Mihailovic and Thirds Coach Zac Carey. It's also common to see Coaching And Player Development Officer, Scott West on the sideline.

On Clinnick, one would hope his talents aren't lost to the game locally as he has an excellent football mind.

Thanks Star, appreciate the reply. What's the possibility of Scotty West being senior coach next season? Would be a great choice if he still has the desire to coach. Would be equal to the top coaches like Mighty Mick, Grant etc.

Would be a great choice. Obviously a decorated ex-junior and great experience in the caper but I don't know if he would have the time or the inclination. Even at local level, the amount of preparation is phenomenal. The other point is Dale May could perform well and throw his hat in the ring for the permanent gig.

Pacco move into 4th. It would appear by the scoring shots they were clearly the better side. However WC have improved significantly which is great for the comp..

Is Paco starting to become a threat?? Interesting game v Douttas coming up..

Turbo i would like to give chickenonachain 3 votes for his Abers prediction. I thought he was dreaming. Abers and Keilor r they they the 1's to beat? Well done Chicken

Are there now 2 finals spots up for grabs? I think everyone had Abers, Keilor and Greenvale as locks 2 - 3 weeks ago. Seems now that Keilor and Abers are certanties to play finals and Greenvale have now gone back to the pack with 3 consecutive losses.

Interesting few weeks with one game separating 6 teams between 3rd and 8th. All 6 of those sides will give themselves a chance to play finals.

Should be a blockbuster in 2 weeks time when Keilor and Abers clash. A cut above the rest at the moment.

Agree Stax. the stand alone game on Queen's birthday weekend has also taken on much extra significance as it looks like both teams will go in looking for their first win of the season

There still might be a long way to go but the next fortnight. Is like a mini finals series for eds marby Pascoe vale and west coburg.

Eds v Pacco and Marby
Marby v Keilor and Eds
Pacco v Eds and strathmore
WC v strathmore and G'vale

Marby have the toughest two games. But they have beaten gvale and abers this year so anything is possible. Keilor at home and Eds away make it difficult to see Marby turning at the half way point in front of the ledger.

West Coburg at home can beat anyone. I think they will beat strathmore but find Greenvale to much of a task. Think they will be 4-5 at the break. Certainly not out of it.

Eds will need to be a little more consistent. I can see them winning both games of the next two but can also see them also losing both. If they lose both they can't make the 4.

Pascoe Vale have been beaten by 40+ points to the top 3. but could still be 6-3 after 9. I believe they are better than strathmore. And on par with Eds so if they win this week 6-3 a half way could be the gap they need to make the top 4.

Would also not write Strathmore off just yet - if they can win against Paco and West Coburg they're still right in the mix

Notice that Tighe back from injury and Callum Urch played his 1st game for them on the weekend. Still a really good list and a potent forward line when Matty little is available

Couldn't agree more. They've got to start winning though against teams around and just above them on ladder. Next 2 matches against WC and Pacco are absolutely crucial.

PV v Eds the old fashioned "8 point game" and going on Saturday's player points, the game should be titled The Battle of The 50 Pointers.

3 great games in Premier this week. Healthy for the competition to see 6 sides fighting for 2 finals spots.
Very tough to pick!

Abers by 200
GV by 60
Keilor by 24
EDS by 6
SM by 1

Greenvale by 25 over Avondale - expect a better showing from the Heights this week but GV to bounce back
Abers by 150 over Airport West
Keilor by 15 against Marby - A Marby win wouldn't shock - Think Keilor just have to much firepower up forward though
Paco by 20 over Douttas - again to much firepower for Paco - should be a good game though with lots of stars on both sides. Be interested in seeing the reception Veszpremi gets going back to Paco
Strathmore to keep their season alive with a hard fought win over West Coburg - again a WC win wouldn't shock but the Mores have a few big guns return over the last few weeks and expect them to just beat a gallant West Coburg

Given some of their injuries, Avondale would have to be some sort of chance of upsetting Greenvale. Greenvale have a point to prove after losing three on the trot and doubts beginning to rise..
Abers comfortably, hopefully APW can show a bit though.
Keilor should get up but Marby are certainly capable of getting the job done.
EDS appear to bat a bit deeper than Paco. Getting off to a fast start will be crucial for either side.
Strathmore/WC should be a beauty.
Tipping S'more but West Coburg certainly capable of getting the job done.

Greenvale by 45 points over Avondale.
Abers by a lot over APW.
Keilor by 19 over Marby, although having already beaten both last years Grand Finalists, Marby must be a chance.
Pacco by 5 points over Douttas, continuing Douttas run of unlucky close losses.
Mores by 9 points over West Coburg.

What excuse this time turbo?? Thought you said you would smash douttas?

I will tell you what Flipper, you give me a report on the game you seen today and I might give you all a full game report. I really needed to calm down before I write something.
It's disapointing to see the league appoint 2 div1/div2 umpires to officiate the match of round. They needed an umpire's coach during each quarter to give them some coaching. Douttas deserved the win but it's clearly unacceptable in premier division.

can anyone from EDS tell me what's going on with Darren Phiffer (sorry about the spelling) hasn't played in 4 weeks. And can they fit him in with the points? Looks like they play at almost 50 every week and he's a 5 pointer

Edfl thought this game was a good learning for umpires. Lol

Pacco v Douttas today.
The ground was a bit slippery due to the constant rain. Conditions certainly suited Douttas as Pacco fielded a bigger stronger side. Pacco had some big outs with B Ross, Foster and others missing from the line up.
1st half..
Douttas went in harder early on and were 3-4 goals in front with Pacco pegging them back. Great old fashion man on man contests across the ground with the duel between Jackson/Allan and then Thompson/Veszpremi a highlight. I must say I like the look of Allan who's a bloody good player. Runs hard, strong smaller type mid and has a great kick on him. Uses the ball well..
2nd half..
Really goal for goal footy with Pacco getting in front in the last qrt and looked to be the winner until some poor decision making up forward caused some turn overs and Douttas catching them on the rebound. Still don't understand when you have a dominant forward in Wells, clearly on top of Day, that you wouldn't just kick to him 1 out. He was looking like the match winner but was under used.

Douttas seemed to prefer the conditions and were a bit quicker over the ground. The game was played in great spirits and it was quite entertaining footy in the wet. Full credit to all players and I think only one injury to a Douttas player #22 I think. Maybe a shoulder but not sure. Hope his OK and it's not to seroius.

Pacco dominated the rucking contests but the clearances were about even.

The umpiring was really poor. The bald umpire was seen in to many conversations with a couple of Douttas players especially in the first half, yet when Pacco say anything it's 50mts. Ive tried to keep this this low key. I did see some things that umpires did when really they should be concentrating on the game and being neutral. I thought only the captain can engage the umpires..
How does Lewis get clearly pushed in the back forcing him sliding into the footy and then it's hold in the ball.
Ross marks and takes a step with momentum and gets tackled and its hold on the ball, without the umpire calling play on.
The smaller umpire was good but the taller one and the bald umpire are clearly not up to premier standard.
On the positive side they did have courage to pay a few deliberate out of bounds.

Overall Douttas deserved the win but it was a very close contest. The smaller forward line of Douttas probably suited to the conditions hence there spread of goal kickers.
Douttas very impressive after coming back up to premier, but still believe on a dry ground Pacco win but it is what it is.. Always close games as per 2014 when both games were within a few points..

Now I sit back and wait for all the replies but at least I give a game report. That's more than most of you..
