How's recruiting at other clubs travelling at this stage?

Some big and quite surprising noise coming out of a few clubs however until confirmed you never know at this time of year.

As most already know recruiting for 2015 has been super this year at Abers - commitment from bulk of the list plus the following ins:

Our U18 graduating talent - huge plus
Al Kefford - returns after a strong season in the VFL
Gareth Phillips - returns after a few injury riddled seasons
Luke Blackwell - quality midfielder - fitted in beautifully already
Jesse Laurie - comes straight from Uni Blacks premiership team - ex Port Adelaide listed and Claremont star
Brad Vassal - good friend of our skipper Josh Cubillo - strong inside midfielder
Potentially add Austin and MacLean to that list and they look good, although have to question if Phillips will even get to Round 1. Looks like they will have to increase the bank loan from this year!! :p

Has he signed with Essendon Doutta Stars?

I think Doutta's are a number of clubs he's looking into joining after turning his back on a deal with Coburg. I believe he may have struggled to believe in himself to play week in week out at VFL level plus had other things in his life happen so commitment was a real issue. Hope he gets through his issues though.

Here's some free advice -
Players - this is why you don't sign at a club till the end of pre-season!
Clubs - this is why you don't sign players till the end of pre-season!

Players - You don't know if you'll like it, if you like your potential new teammates, if you'll fit in, if you believe in yourself enough etc.... so just wait till you've at least done 10-15 sessions at the club then if happy go ahead and sign. Don't sign before pre-season even commences. Back yourself that you may add afew more dollars to your deal by showing on the track what you can bring to your new club. Some players wont like this advice as they'd have to let actions and not words do the talking regarding their money.....;)

Clubs - You don't know what you're buying till they've trained at your club for a good 10-15 sessions. Are they culturally a good fit? are they lazy? are they good enough etc.... just wait, if the player goes elsewhere because he needs to sign a contract before he kicks a ball....then so be it, you've probably dodged a bullet. If he's the real deal and in it for the right reasons he'll agree to talk turkey after xmas and a good 10 sessions on the track. Some clubs will continue to just shite themselves and sign players before they touch a ball because they feel they will miss out as the player is "in demand'....just ask them!! ;)

i'm not involved in a club but i would never sign a player without them committing to train between 5-10 times before we talk $$. if the player doesn't like it, they can feck off to another club and try and stooge them. Sorts out those in it for the right reasons and keeps the club free of cokkeds that talk big game but have gone missing well and truly by round 6.

I've seen many a players look like Gary Abblett on the track & couldn't get a kick in a street fight on game day:D:D:D

Could not agree more. The fear of missing out throws common sense out the window.

Best post in 10 years and one that should be put up once a week forever... Cannot believe clubs are stupid enough to pay sign on fees let alone sign blokes that have no affinity with the club and are just there purely for the money - let's not sugar coat it as most players last 1-2 years at a club and if you have player X come to you and he has a record of club to club why would you bother signing them?

Likewise players that rock up to a new club and sign without seeing if they enjoy the club, it's players and it's coach... Ridiculous. Would you go an work for a company or boss if you didn't like them or the place or the culture?

View attachment 98884 Good to see a former Saints player and Fawkner boy get gown to Mutton Reserve and help out a bit.
I was there and let me tell you Paul Chapman is a top bloke. He was supposed to stay for an hour, but stayed for nearly 2. Despite his busy schedule, he will come down and help out when he can. Not because it is part of his obligation as an Essendon / AFL footballer, but just because he wants to help out his Junior Club.

So to make way for the new batch of 6 to 7 $1000+ recruits which under performing (Mal Michael's words) mercenaries got the chop to make way?? Do you get paid in the two's?? Maybe more when McLean and Austin collect their sign-on's

Reimers, El Houli, Hislop, Johns, McNamara, Oswald, Lynch??
'Carl on the Corner' has expressed MAJOR concerns about just who is making way for the abundance of $1000+ players that Aberfeldie FC have added to their current playing list for 2015 and beyond. From what he had been told down at training this week, three of their very best, amongst others from the U/18 2014 Premiership team have decided to call a nearby club home for the 2015 season and beyond in an attempt to play senior football on a weekly basis.

Mark Austin signed - great pick up - quality bloke...

It's official. Our boy Brock McLean has officially signed on to play at the jungle next year.

Massive decision for Brock and one everyone at Abers is extremely excited about.

Naysayers post away however remember Brock was a decorated junior footballer at the Aberfeldie Football Club and the flow on effect to our junior program and the broader local footy community will be significant.

Its the only way a former junior will get a game, go play 10 years of AFL and return back and get a game.

Cause none of the juniors of the past 4 years get a look in

Factually incorrect.

FROM THE ABERS WEB SITE! (the results of the under 18s speak for themselves) yet the senior intergration does not
In the last decade the Under 18's have been a revelation not only for their performance on the field, but they cemented themselves as the true stepping stone and future of Aberfeldie Football with a brilliant and much deserved fifth consecutive Grand Final win in 2004, which is an outstanding achievement at any level. After a couple of uneventful years and then settling in with their new coaching staff and bonding together as a team, the players found out that after a disappointing 2007 season, they had what it takes to go all the way and sealed a successful 2008 season with yet another Grand Final win, the first in four years. Whilst many of these grand finalists have graduated to fully-fledged senior players the incoming Under 16 graduates from 2012 no doubt enhanced the Under 18s to the point where there is a renewed feeling of optimism as the team moved forward into 2013 with coach Brett Gourley who along with then Reserves coach Brendan Hallinan, took the team to a Grand Final, again the first in four years. In 2013 they went one better and took that extra step again in 2014, having now won three consecutive Grand Finals, with the last two, back to back under Coach Brett Gourley who has been appointed again for Season 2015.

I may be wrong but I would have thought having 8-9 players coming from your junior program for a premier div club with the biggest budget was a pretty fair effort ?

You said none of the juniors from the last four years get a look in!!

The churn of players transitioning from U18.5 to open age is significant at all clubs - some aren't interested, some focus on work/study while others aren't up to it.

Our record of retention over the last three seasons in particular would measure up against most clubs.

Cut and paste all you like you're still factually incorrect.
