Schoey was a really promising forward as a kid, I was huge wraps on him after seeing him live for SA in 2008. He's probably been ruined though playing as a mediocre or worse defender for so long.

he'd be a decent get, but in terms of what the hawks would want, I doubt his output would stack up. He's the type we'd want though, i've never seen him as a defender anyway

Him as a defender is purely needs based. Unlike Carlisle though, he's sucked it up and got on with it.

Would love Tomlinson even if we have to wait until hes out of contract.

Has a huge tank and workrate, runs up and down the ground all day Nick Riewoldt like, would be perfect fit for us as I assume Joe will turn into a more stay at home FF. With the GWS having their famous 3 talls (Boyd, Patton, Cameron) surely Tomlinson is a chance?

I'd do our end of first round priority for Tomlinson. Now whether GWS would do that I'm not sure and I doubt we would be the only club that wants him.

I would too in a heartbeat. Not sure what else GWS needs on the list but I'd even throw in some steak knifes (not our best 25 though)

I hope we are considering it too, and it could be good from GWS's point of view too. They have the three key forwards, then add McCarthy...where does Tomlinson fit in? To get an end of first priority isn't a bad return. I'd be happy to give a steaknives too, possibly Jetta/Hardringham, etc.

McCarthy is bizarrely (because the kid can seriously play and is a bit of a human highlight reel) playing CHB in the ressies
It's possibly to teach him defensive discipline?

Nah, apparently they're trying to develop him as a defender. Not saying they couldn't change their minds, but he was drafted with that in mind if i remember correctly

Any of the Geelong tall forwards be of any interest to us?
(Josh Walker, Shane Kersten, Mitch Brown, Joel Hamling, Nathan Vardy doubt it)

Kersten YES! But not a chance he'll be let go.

Which could play into our hands if we go to GWS and say here is an end of first priority, give us Tomlinson. They are already in a surplus of talls. They could get 2 of the 3 best mids with their picks this year as it is a KPP draft.

Do we really need to be discussing the mediocrity on other lists in April?

Let's see how our forwardline develops over the year and work out what we need in the latter stages of the year. Maybe Ambrose will cement a best 22 spot. Maybe Carlisle will pull his finger out and start kicking goals. Maybe Daniher will break out sooner than expected. The point is, trying to guess what we'll need in October, then dredging through the depths of other lists to try and find a "gem" (aka someone who's more likely to be delisted than anything) is futile.

Can't see GWS wanting more picks. Going to take quality mature players with 8+ years left.

They need more class in the middle, end of 1st priority is perfect for them. Not as if Tomlinson is an automatic best 22 for them

Yes but not as a KPF- offer him a spot in his natural position. Who cares if he is contracted, at least ASK!

I seriously don't get this talk of Tomlinson leaving. I really don't. It bemuses me. He is contracted, he has played in a variety of positions at both NEAFL and AFL level, he is playing with the big three in the same side.

Youngsters often speak of the joy of just "being out there" when they are young. No doubt the kid is enjoying himself and the new challenges that come with learning new positions.

Jacksch is the one who is out of contract and a top pick that is attainable.

The issue I have with Jacksch is that I have questions about whether he is more your 2nd or 3rd tall or a true CHF. We need the latter not the first two. We have a number of 2nd or 3rd talls and I wouldn't give a first rounder for one of them. I'd rather go for Tomlinson and fail than to not go at all. I think we can persuade him to come. Guarantee him the CHF position in a top 8 side (GWS are miles away)...and who knows!

Jacksch has played CHF for the reserves.

As for a top 8 side? They aren't that far away at all

Maybe, I am not sold on him as a CHF at AFL level though, just a gut feeling though, could be wrong there. GWS are miles away their posts are fine (KPP's) but their mids are average to good at most. They haven't really drafted an elite on baller yet.

One guy who would be good depth would be Jake Spencer (Melbourne).

Out of contract at years end and is too good for VFL (averaged 28 hitouts and 12 possessions a game at VFL level in 2013).

Would be an upgrade on Thurlow and allow us someone to come straight in should we find ourself in a similar position to a month ago.
