I think it's a good move. Ryder is a perfect example. Under contract, says I want to go and I'll only go to Port, of course we're going to get screwed. Players can pick only one club and we have to accept what they have.

At least now they'll have more to offer up. It's only picks one year ahead.
Players association have too much pull. In that situation port should either pony up commensurate value or Ryder should be forced to look elsewhere. "our hands are tied" attitude is bullshit, and our gutless club should have taken a stand - instead we rolled over which is becoming our trademark.

Something has to change following both Ryder and Beams leaving last year, mid contract and choosing where they went. They didn't even have to run the risk of going into the Pre-Season draft. I feel we did not get what Patty was worth on the face of things. Why shouldn't the club be able to tell the player manager, you want your player at Port Adelaide, Adelaide has offered us pick 14 and 30, either Port ups it's offer or he will be off to the other South Australian club.

It's one thing for Port to be reasonable in theory.

What will it be next time?

Does anyone think we should be playing Pears rather than Steinberg in the AFL? Neither will likely be on our list next year but at least when fit Pears is (or was) a proven KPD, Steinberg is just useless.

The coaches decided long ago that Pears wasn't up to it. They have given Steinberg a chance to prove that he has something to offer. Harsh as it sounds there is no point giving Pears yet another chance to fail.

Hardy actually mentioned Pears in Peres conference after last game.

Reward form.

Steinberg's almost been the best player in the VFL for the last 18 months, meanwhile Pears has done almost literally f*** all in that timeframe

True but as we know there's a big jump between VFL standard and AFL standard. Steinberg is admittedly a good VFL player, but at AFL level he might as well not be playing for the lack of impact he has on games. Can't believe we took him with a 2nd rounder the same year we took Heppell! Of the guys available at that pick we could've taken: Jeremy Howe, Luke Parker, Tom McDonald.

Agreed, if the players want free agency, then the clubs should be able to trade them to the best offer before they are free agents without any say from the player.

that's a long answer for not a lot of substance.

Pears doesn't even deserve to be on the list, let alone in the team at the moment

My bad, this doesn't have all of my attention at the moment to be honest.

True the same could be said for a few of the players now, I reckon Kav will be gone after this year after the weekend O'Brien is a better chance than him of staying on imo.

Basically atm to play Kav you gota drop Obrien, and you simply cant on his form.

Kav is on his way out. It's a shame. Could of been anything. Shit happens
With a so called thin draft and the likes of Winders, Fletch and Chappy on the way out before any delisting or trades I'm hoping they can keep Kav on the list for next year.

Just read on the afl site that matera, Bennell and Mckenzie all might be on the trade table. Bennell would be a great pick up for the right price and if I stops ****ing up. Would be a great player for us on the outside and forward
