10.4.2 Siren Heard by Field Umpire
Play in each quarter shall come to an end when any one of the field Umpires or emergency field Umpire hears the siren.

10.4.3 Signal
A field Umpire shall signal that they have heard the siren by blowing a whistle and holding both arms above their head.

I'm not even sure myself.

Positively one of the more entertaining matches of recent times. Would be nice to see some of the more skillful former players out there though.

Guys like Mark Mercuri, Greg Williams, Wanganeen, Chris Lewis and so on.

My interpretation of the disallowed goal was that the time ran out and the time-keeper failed to hit the button to sound the siren.

That's what the rulebook says but in practice the AFL will overturn match results half a week later if the umpire doesn't hear the siren. So in reality, the siren does end the match.

Yeah, which is acceptable. But... IIRC the siren didn't sound on time in any of the quarters. Nothing else about the game was officiated with any seriousness which is how it should be, and what keeps the game a bit of a laugh. But the old Vic rivalry still shone through with that decision taken seriously (the only one) at the end while they had extra players on the field :)

Entertaining game.

Highlight was no doubt Hutchy pulling that goal out his backside. :thumbsu:
Was impressed with his post-match interview as well... I always had him down as a smug and arrogant **** but he actually seemed like a decent bloke at the end there...

Votes for the "Taking it Too Seriously" Award.

Gotta put Robbo in there.

I liked Sam's costume. . . he was trying to look like one of the great old coaches out of the 60s yeah? .

i immediately thought "wft is sam dressed up as tom landry for?"

then realised i guess VFL/WAFL/SANFL coaches must have dressed like that back then too.

i thought it was inspector gadget when i flicked over

Martyn's shirtfront on Carey was a ripper. Loved it, then realised if it happened in the AFL, there wouldve been a massive overreaction, the receiving playing probably would've staged to make it look worse, a free kick would've been paid and hysterical tossers would've been flooding the airwaves and taking up column inches speculating if it deserved to be sent to the MRP.

What's the story behind that and who has/does he play for ?

he's played for a host of clubs, mainly Doveton & St. Kilda City.
At the moment he's reported to be playing for Moonee Valley after Port Colts gave him the flick.
He'll takle the highest offer, good luck to any team dumb enough to want a person like that.
I've played against him, he tells his teams mates that if they cost him any money (paid by game, plus goals kicked), he'll have them dropped.
Can say without any doubt, he wouldn't be invited to many past players days.

In 2009 he called my club, asked if they were looking for a full forward, $1500 a game, plus $100 a goal. My club told him where to go.\

One last thing, if you stand in his hole, he'll go for your eyes, since him do it twice, copped it once myself and he has been reported a few times for doing it.

Obvioulsy a charity match and for the most part of it a great game of entertainment. It did however reaffirm one thing for me.

Gary Lyon is a d!ckhead.

The way he carried on at the end put me off the whole night. Him and JB were only commenting during the last qtr where is the sense of occasion when the boundary up called OOB on a ball Hutchy marked then Fitzy kicks the winning goal which makes the game all that more exciting and then all of a sudden its stick to the rules.

Whether the time was run out of not he got the kick off on the siren and it would have counted in the real game.

Otherwise a super night and i hope they made heaps of $$$ for a great cause

Was at the game last night.
Great buzz around the place when Hutchi kicked that snap. The crowd went wild after Strauchnies goals aswell.

Disagree. Gary Lyon was hilarious. Thought he was really good. Love him taking the piss out of the players and I'm pretty sure it was him who started the whole "trying a bit too hard for a charity match" payouts.

Was loving him getting into Wipfli all night.
