No chance in hell Rayner gets off. I'd fancy our chances with Answerth over Rayner.

It was completely unintentional and just unlucky but whenever you pin your opponents arms like that and they hit their face in the turf you are in trouble.
Force matters. There wasn't much in it despite the blood. Cricket pitch done it, your honour. I think it could go either way, but he was wrestling a player much bigger than himself to the ground, and did it with a reasonable amount of care. Define reasonable i guess...

I find the idea that Rayner "pinned the arms" in the manner of most dangerous tackles to be ridiculous. Sure, he's holding his arms so he can't dispose of the ball but that's what happens in every single tackle. You can even see Browns forearm is free to have a chance to brace for the impact. The force was mostly generated by Brown trying to run through him, and Rayner just being strong enough to not let him go. It should have been a free kick for dropping the ball ffs.

Seriously though, how else was Rayner supposed to approach this contest? Let him lift his arms and cuddle him? Go softer so he could break the tackle? If his suspension is upheld for this the AFL is an absolute joke.

Feel like we're challenging both so we have a better chance of getting 1 of them (Rayner) off. It would look bad for tribunal to overturn 1 and uphold 1, rather than just 1 challenge which is upheld.

We're only challenging one.

Oh most definitely and I'd suspend him for at least one match and strip him of the captaincy and it would probably be the final nail in the coffin which would see him not offered a contract for next year

But had he been in decent form I'd probably settle for just stripping him of his captaincy
Good form excuses most things

I think the Zorko situation is going to have an impact on an already fragile group.

The boos will be loud and just having your skipper being loathed in such a way will filter down through the group.

I don’t want him leading us out, I think a change between now and then takes a bit of that heat out of it.

Can’t have him as the lightning rod and captain.

I don’t subscribe to this ‘things get said on the footy field’ either - no one says what he said, ever - on any field or anywhere.

This is what I keep thinking. Can you imagine if by some miracle we do go all the way and win the flag? Do we want this man to be the face of our success lifting the cup now?

If it does happen, the boos at the MCG will be audible all the way up in Brisbane

Whatever travails or issues people have in their personal lives what Zorko is alleged to have said has understandably touched on a nerve which everyone has sympathy for.

Worse is said on a football field every week the only difference being Petty reacted.

No one's excusing Zorko but calls for multiple week suspension and immediately stripped of the captaincy coming in to what may be our final game for the year is way over the top .

He won't be there ,certainly not in that role next year.

I don’t think there is, yes there’s personal attacks that take it too far but in my time of being around footy I haven’t heard anything similar to what is being reported.

That fir starters. But far worse than that . You saw how Marc Murphy suffered through insubstantiated rumours.

Multiply it by 10 so me the things that were said to him on the field were happenng.
Crikey ,excuse my spelling.

What I intended to say that some of the tings said to him were as vulgar and hurtful as you could imagine.

This goes on quite often.

If I was able to print what some players have told me what has been said to them you'd obviously be staggered.

It's so preposterous some just laugh it off but they're looking to test a vulnerability that might affect your game.

It's not as prevalent in this era where a lot of the players switch clubs and they have friends across the game

Tigers will poke the Zorko bear for sure. Tigers are not backwards in doing things that cross the line.
He gave away that stupid free to Cotchin? last game just after they scored their first to give them their second..

I really hope he pulls his head in and plays a great game.

It must be pretty bad then, can’t think of too much worse than what Zorko is alleged to have said considering Petty’s situation.

No one's excusing Zorko. But he's copped it every week for years because they know he has a short fuse and they want to set him off.

Before I start on the illegal physical acts that he also endures. Generally he gives no quarter and asks for none.
