Traded Elliot Yeo (2012-2013)

My son got the number 4 on his jersey because of jarred polec........aaarrgghhh

I know freo have a few more important issues at the moment, but have they expressed any interest in yeo, or is the lions/yeo only dealing with WCE??

No idea what Elliot was like before joining the Lions, but I sponsored him in 2012 and found him approachable and genuine. We met him before he knew we were his sponsor and he was friendly as hell for no reason, a little shy but obviously nice.

At the player sponsor gig last year he was simply awesome. Bent over backwards for my 6 year old and nice as pie to me as the older pathetic guy who asked too many questions.

Then this year we saw him at the player sponsor gig again and my boy - drunk on Auskick confidence - asked him for 'a kick' at some point. A month later after training he was running off-field, Elliot not only recognised my boy by remembered the kick and ran off to get a footy. It was 15 minutes of kick-to-kick later when I eventually convinced Elliot that he needed to finish up. I am convinced Elliot would have gone on until my boy passed out.

Every time I saw him Elliot was mature, friendly and approachable. At this year's sponsor gig he had a crowd around him and never got flustered or bored with the attention. He was always cool to fans, his teammates and even random people on social media.

Any other year I am positive that he would stay and remain loyal, but this year the club is a mess at the moment off the field. There just isn't much for a 2nd year 'employee' who could thrive and adapt anywhere to remain loyal to. Not after we sacked his coach and showed no compassion to his teammates.

Would you have stayed in that situation if you knew someone else wanted you? We can bag him all we want, but as fans we were always going to be here before he arrived and after he left. He has 10 years, if working conditions aren't ideal why not be near family and friends in a better working environment? Shame on the club for choosing this year to painstakingly craft the mother of all F***-ups.

But a little perspective doesn't hurt. Ask yourself if Todd Banfield cried homesick whether you would give two shits...

Bag him all you like for his decision. But he is a great kid who will make whichever team he goes to better on and off the field. I hope it's the Lions, but if not I grit my teeth and wish him all the best.

This is the club's fault for losing a 200 game good citizen, not his fault for walking.

Nice post, and I see you r point. But all footy clubs go through tough times and it is the ones who stay and make history that really create a legacy. Guys like Yeo are really letting down the likes of Rich, Redden, and Rockliff who all committed to the club too build and future as a group. To me it stinks of taking the easy option in quitting. Imagine if Yeo ended up at freo and started tasting September glory after years of the founding players (who have gone through similar or worse then what the lions face) set up the team to create their own legacy. These young players will only be remembered as icing on the cake players. How do you rate Gunstan v other hawk players? There are very few players who don't go through a coaching change or two in their careers, and most with a spine down jump off at first change in disguise as "homesickness". I wait with interest in seeing who actually leaves before or after a new coach is signed... Yeo especially owes the club to at least hear the new coach out.

Fair points all. I'd love to see #26 beaming immediately after our next premiership - hell I'd like to see our next premiership! But obviously only the guys who stick fat will be there on that day.

If you're in the AFL then you should be ready for the 'Australian' part. I get that. But I sincerely believe that EYeo left because the club is a mess, not because he wasn't getting games or missed his mummy and/or daddy.

That said when he's gone, he's gone. I'll like him, but that's the past. I just don't want the 'past' to be here yet. But once it is, I just hope the trade brings a new guy who merits the support, not just a guy I support because of the jumper he wears game day.

I'll get over Polec (even if he delivers on his promise). I don't think PK will get to 100 games (there are two ends to an oval). But Elliot seems to love the game and the 'job'. It's a shame if we lose him. I haven't missed a departing Lion for some time, this may be the first.

Also: I bought a 3-peat PK game-worn from the Collingwood game. A bad decision on many levels...

All I'm interested in is what he contributes to the Brisbane Lions. If he wants to join an opposition club to work against us then I will have a low opinion of him, like I would any other opposition player.

Dizzle, well spoke & spot on. We are only looking on - how must it be to work in that toxic envioronment. Then to see the facilities & backup he will get at home. Whilst I do not blame him - he will only have 1 chance at a career - I am gutted he has chosen this path.

Of all going on, Elliot is the one that really hurts.

Great bloke and all, but we all at some stage work in an "unhealthy" environment...and away from home too and at a hell of a lot lower salary.
Travis Boak was a recent player that had the opportunity to leave Port to return home and play with Geelong and at the time Port was more of a basket case than Brisbane (point could be argued) however he chose to stick it out and well...they ended up playing finals football (of course Port got the rest of their shit in order too)

Boak is a perfect role model for youngs players thinking of leaving because times are tough...Compare Boaks standing and respect in the game this year compared too last, but more importantly had he moved to the Cats and just coasted along behind Selwood and the rest. Boak has started some sort of Legacy for himself, but more importantly his football club that picked him and put lots of work into him and gave him a shot

Yeo's bid to get to West Coast has been stalled by the fact that the Eagles have only offered a third-round pick in return for the 20-year-old who has played 27 games in his first two AFL seasons.

"We've been engaged with both Fremantle and West Coast and it's fair to say that West Coast led the running and were fairly proactive, but I think the fact that they've put a third-round pick on the table for a player in his second year who has played 19 games this year has left the door open for Fremantle.

“Fremantle have recognised that and have come to the fore to talk about something that might involve them," Kerr said.

See you Yeo, you played a good season or so for us. Best of luck back home.

Best of luck? Suffer in your jocks is more the sentiment I am feeling right now.

What was the go with that anyway? They have golf courses in Brisbane ya nong (Elliot, not you Jim)

I heard he saw this image in the Courier Mail and became really concerned:

You are kinder than me.He is the only one I am disappointed in losing. I am not wishing him all the best.

Feel like Yeoy was not as extremely 'mummy' orientated as the other 4.

He got a good offer from a home state, why not take it?

Wish him all the best.
