Cordy taking them kick outs when we have the most half back flankers in the league gave me a brain aneurysm.
I saw it written on here earlier and I’ll repeat it: it smacks of arrogance from Bevo. I think he just tries to be different, regardless of how illogical it is.

On Cordy kick outs - can understand it happening once, but coaches/defenders should then adjust to correct it. JJ/Daniel/Crozier are experienced enough to make that decision. At worst, put Suckling in defence, and just tell him to roost every kickout as far as he can, or with distance to an organised structure, and have players up the ground positioned accordingly.
Also, even with some faults, Gowers has a dip, and is actually a good thinker on the ground - watch and listen to him if close enough. Maybe fwd line of 2 genuine talls, Gowers, and 3 med/small genuine forwards.

Welcome American Doggie :)
Rucks are usually developed for that position from an early age on the basis of their height.
English was the only one in the team selected who regularly plays ruck. Their were a few others tried there - Young, Bruce and maybe one other - who don't normally play there but they didn't do any better. The Collingwood ruckman, Grundy, is the best ruckman in the league. English is very young and big guys take longer to come good as the saying goes. Last year he did fairly well against just about everyone apart from Grundy so hopefully that will be the case again this year. We have high hopes for him!
We have basically only two other options on the list, Trengrove and Sweet. Trengrove is not a specialist ruck and not as skilled as English but is stronger and may have coped with Grundy better but was out of favour at the end of last season. Sweet is stronger too but a little further back in experience and skill than English.
We also have to remember that English had an amazing growth spurt in his mid to late teens. Something like 20cm. Before that he was a midfielder.

So he only started learning ruckcraft a few years ago.

Suckling is not a forward
Cordy should never take kickouts
English still isn't ready
Young isn't a forward
Our mids need to learn how to set up defensively in the middle
Somehow we are smaller, weaker, slower, have less fitness and worse skills than the opposition
Gardner made me miss Fletcher Roberts
Whos lunchbox did Trengove shit in?
Naughton was nowhere near ready to play

I like keath, he had a crack

My take but the following blokes can hold their heads high: Cavarra, Wood, Keath, Caleb Daniel, Suckers, Smith.

Naughton shouldn't have been playing. Gardner isn't ready.

Why was Cordy taking the kick outs when you have the best left footer in the comp? Or JJ who is a nice user of the footy and can run it out the back.

Strange. Reminds me of that GWS round 1 game in 2018. Bizarre selection decisions.

Trengrove and McLean IN. Gardner and Lloyd OUT.

I am for Suckling to take the kick out booting as far as he can. Surely that is better than Cordy kicking out.

Yep, we went in tall, how the hell can't you have a kick out plan to use them. In the past it would be Grundy on English so don't kick there. Most of the time the long kickout would be to Bont. But now there are so many long options, Naughton, Young, Gardner, Bont and thats with Bruce staying forward. Absolutely no game plan change from last year.

The kickout plan was quite obvious. Get Zaine to run very quickly out of the square and kick it as far as he can (40 odd metres) to the point of the centre square regardless of whether we had a player there to receive it or not. That was some real 4D ninja level coaching on behalf of Beveridge right there.

When I watched an already confused Gardner hand over the ball to Zaine of all people after Collingwood's first behind, it was obvious that he was the designated kicker and that Beveridge had already lost not only the game but his ****ing mind.

So.......
- Suckling shouldn’t be anywhere near a midfield contest, he’s just not good enough
- Poor team selection
- Simple in-game decisions stuffed up (Cordy taking kick outs instead of literally anyone else)
- Opposition’s best player(s) allowed to roam free

Could have written that after 20-30 games across the past three seasons, and I suspect it’ll be written many times more. Not sure how many more times it can happen before confidence in the footy department is completely lost.

Beveridge is actually a troll. He said during the week the club is providing a community service by playing during these trying times, and I tune in to see Zaine Cordy taking kick ins. He is a troll. Unfortunately this year he doesn't have a mid year bye to take the time to decide to pull his head in. I reckon the season is done, cancelled or not.

The whole will we/won’t play, play every 4 days, have 2 months off later thing gives the season a sense of ad hockey which is clearly going to unbalance players. On top of that everyone is feeling a sense of foreboding atm for obvious reasons, which is going to effect evrything. sport Is a triviality, why is everyone getting so upset.
Collingwood didn't seem to think that way though

This club has never performed when they've been under even a small amount of expectation. They have a stupid mindset that they only play their best when they're underdogs and their backs are against the wall. This is why our players are so soft and drink their own bath water and believe their own publicity, and why we only have two flags. Pathetic performance.

Agreed.

Didn't post last night because I was too angry.

With most of the players and certainly the coaching staff and match committee.

I am still TOO angry. I have never been so annoyed at a bulldogs performance.

Have we caught the Champion Data Virus CDV-20. Last season they rated the dees with the best list and they got CDV-19. This season we were rated second best list for 2020. The virus starts in the head giving players an enlarged or big head. Then it spreads and effects work effort and makes them look lethargic. The only vaccine or cure is hard work.

My changes from last night for next week.

Out:
Gardner: looks like a nice bloke but he literally lost every contest. Some of his 1 on 1 work in defense was absolutely deplorable. I dont even think he is VFL standard.

In:
Mclean Or Richards.

Move Young to his best position as a B and get some more pace or pressure with Toby or Ed. I dont know how you can think about judging or grading any of our forwards from last night we had 0 ball moving forward. This game was solely on our mids and I think Bont, Dunks and Macrae have earnt a few credits in the bank to keep them in the team.

Really impressed by Wallis last night and Bailey Smith is a star. Has pace and strength he will be our 2nd best player very quickly
Yes! Not enough mentions of Wally here. I thought his effort was excellent and stood out in comparison to some others. Bailey Smith also stood out.

Triple Baileys update your name dawg, Bailey Dale was shocking
Dale is a downhill skier. Yes he kicks goals against ordinary teams when our midfield is dominating. But he struggles against decent teams. When he shirked a contest in the middle of the ground early in the second I was embarrassed for him. Then Lloyd took the spotlight at the end of the quarter.

We need finishers. But good ones who perform in finals don't mind the physical stuff. I don't see it with either of these two.

Will take a while for the team to settle around Bruce and Keath. And last night our midfield got smashed. But I don't see us beating the good teams with a forward line including Dale, Lloyd and Suckling. Keen to see what Weightman offers.

Our night was completely shot when Sam Lloyd sh!t himself going for a mark at the top of the 50 at the end of the second quarter.

Summed up our whole game: soft, scared and not committed.

Lets see what happens next week.
I was worried when a regulation uncontested over-head mark went straight thru the captains hands in the opening minute.

English is utterly psyched out by Grundy. At times from throw-ins he is at least 2 metres from the fall of the ball, because he’s so worried on what Grundy is doing and not watching the goddam football. Time for some hard truths after 4 years. Only thing worse than our ruck was our tackling. The way Brown walked thru in the 2nd qtr just p1ssed me off.

Only positives for me were Wood (good return to form), Wallis, and Smith. Williams too.
