ThatWether it hit the post or not is a moot point, because the ump didn't call it out then, it was called out when McKenzie picked it up. He picked it up when he realised it was still in play, to get it out of play.
He didn't just pull it straight out of play as that may have been called, he kept it close to the line so it looked accidental.
It was clearly deliberate but done in a way that was impossible to call.
It's what makes what he did so great. There were so many ways for that to go wrong, and for port to get a point or a free.

Yeah but if Dixon did have a big game, agreed until Barrras perfects his craft we need Mackenzie lets not forget his match saving dive into the posta bath with two goals from dodgy frees - face it he is our best for the role
Perfectly would havd been to mark the ball.He literally played it perfectly.
Had to take himself out on the post, else it'd be perceived as deliberate, all the while deliberately making the ball hit the post. I loved how he scooped the ball up around the post (out of bounds) in case it hadn't actually hit the post.
Redeemed all his errors with that move.

Indeed, or to gather it and sprint around the Port defence and go on to score a goal...Perfectly would havd been to mark the ball.

That was so bad. We had a 2 on 1 there.Well he could have done what Sheppard did earlier in the night.
Shit. The. Bed
Kind of bizarre that the ump forced Mackenzie to knock the ball out of bounds - you can clearly see the ball hit the post after he drops it. Then the ump stands there waiting for something else to happen, i.e. basically daring Mackenzie to hit the ball out deliberately. Then when he does, the ump just calls it out of bounds anyway. Right call made in the end but I'm not sure what the ump's thought process was.
Perfect is all our points being goals, then it doesn't matter at all.Perfectly would havd been to mark the ball.
