The GOAT 1% of all time (well second after Chick's smother in 2006)

Wether it hit the post or not is a moot point, because the ump didn't call it out then, it was called out when McKenzie picked it up. He picked it up when he realised it was still in play, to get it out of play.

He didn't just pull it straight out of play as that may have been called, he kept it close to the line so it looked accidental.

It was clearly deliberate but done in a way that was impossible to call.

It's what makes what he did so great. There were so many ways for that to go wrong, and for port to get a point or a free.

I think he did alright, playing against Port's sole target in the forward line, a bloke who is a monster and tried to win the game single handedly, while the ball was basically coming in as soon as it went out .

Thought he had a really good game and won some really important contests.

He literally played it perfectly.

Had to take himself out on the post, else it'd be perceived as deliberate, all the while deliberately making the ball hit the post. I loved how he scooped the ball up around the post (out of bounds) in case it hadn't actually hit the post.

Redeemed all his errors with that move.

Perfectly would havd been to mark the ball.

that was an incredible bit of play in a game eric might have rather preferred to forget.
he got a much kinder sit than shepp did earlier on but the pressure on him was enormous.

we'll need him to be in better form next week against patton.

Indeed, or to gather it and sprint around the Port defence and go on to score a goal...

My point was based on that play after the initial contest and knowing the options to evacuate the ball from the area at that time were next to zero given the pressure from Dixon.

Nah mate, disagree. I love the big Ezy, but he had turned over a few nervy kicks on Saturday. I could just picture him going back, not flushing it and some Port player marking it 50-55 from goal only needing a behind to win.

Dropping the mark (obviously he didn't deliberately do this), and doing what he did was the best result for us.

Kind of bizarre that the ump forced Mackenzie to knock the ball out of bounds - you can clearly see the ball hit the post after he drops it. Then the ump stands there waiting for something else to happen, i.e. basically daring Mackenzie to hit the ball out deliberately. Then when he does, the ump just calls it out of bounds anyway. Right call made in the end but I'm not sure what the ump's thought process was.

He didn't have the best game but he did save our season. And this is only reason why he should not be dropped against the Giants. Don't want to put a downer on his efforts but he really should have marked that ball lol

Anyways was good of him to put his body on the line and save the day

This.

Don't know why people haven't talked about this.

But isn't the ball out of bounds when it hits the post anyway?
