So far we havent either
Unless we trade both the Freo F2 and pick 25

We still have the $100 note
Just in the form of 2 fiftys instead
More like we swapped $100 for two $20's. There's a reason Freo jumped at that trade so quickly it was the first deal done.

Trading our future first has daddy donuts fingerprints all over it.

We'll be ratshit next year as well all know. Non contract year so our expectations will be even lower than usual.

That first rounder will probably be around pick 10 after concessions lol. And we traded it to get a pick that Geelong won't even accept for their spud. Well done 👍

Then that's exactly the message that he should be emphasising. What he actually said is 'just keep holding out Geelong, it's our responsibility to get this done, and you'll extract a little bit more out of us if you just sit there and wait'. Pissweak.

We're at the point where the stakes here are much higher than just what we give up for Ratugolea. If we fold on him, expect every other club we're trying to get players out of in future to take the exact same strategy against us. Why wouldn't they when it works? We'll never get a player for less than overs again, or at least not until we * Davies off.

Reading too much into what he says to the media. We have given no indication of shifting, we've made our offer, we don't need to fight this battle through a media that continually sides with the Victorian clubs.

If we do fold then he's fair game, but hairy chest-beating in the media is tiresome and fruitless. It's what happens behind the scenes, which we have zero idea about, that matters.

From trade radio:

Port Adelaide football boss Chris Davies concedes the club is an an impasse over Geelong defender Esava Ratugolea.

The Power put forward its pick 25 for the uncontracted Cat, but that offer was rejected by Geelong.

"We'll end up finding out, but right now we haven't been able to break the impasse with Geelong for Esava," Davies told Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.

"We've obviously got 36 hours to try and make it happen.

"I guess you've got to look at all of the opportunities to get players onto your list.

"If worse comes to worse and we're not able to find a deal in the next period of time, then that (taking Esava to the draft) does become a live option.

"It's something that we've got to think about with not just Esava, but maybe the other players that we're looking at as well.

"I'm still really hopeful that we're able to strike a deal with Geelong in the next period of time because what has become clear through the trade period is that Esava wants to leave Geelong and he wants to play for Port Adelaide."

Sounds like CD is really concerned of another club snatching one of BZT / Esava if both walk
I'd be thrilled if another club snatched BZT.

More like we swapped $100 for two $20's. There's a reason Freo jumped at that trade so quickly it was the first deal done.
The only question Freo probably asked was confirming next year isn't a contract year for Hinkley. I hope they kissed Davies tenderly on the forehead after.

If Esava walks into the draft Port may or may not pick him up (but we retain our pick). But one thing's for certain if that happens - Geelong get nothing. That's an emotional decision by Geelong not a rational one. Scott might think he can convince Esava to stay but after more than one year of trying the chances are pretty much zero.

I think this is still dragging on for the theatre of the last day of trading

The AFL have had a word to the clubs " keep the fans engaged."

CD's full comment is way better than the first bit in isolation that was all over not-Twitter this morning.

Seems like it's 25 take it or leave it. I don't mind leaving it on the table, it just makes Geelong look even more unreasonable. We'll then use it to draft him, so wouldn't trade it anyway (even for a slightly later pick we could use on Esava - I don't see them going that far).

If we do end up picking up Rat or any of the others via the draft you just know we'll be painted as the bad guys and difficult to deal with
There's an exception made though if the players we are picking up in the draft are from Dodoro's Essendon or Mackie's Geelong. Then it's completely understandable why we did what we did.

Being seen as fair and reasonable to deal with doesn't seem to have any benefits. No harm in being seen as being difficult by going to the draft - we just need to actually do it.

I think things will move on fairly quickly if we do it for 1 player. If we do it successfully for both, they'll be talking about it on trade radio for years for every Port target.
