I just don't understand the way that club works.
The parish contract thing is small but illustrative.
He wanted a monster contract 6y @ 900k bombers didn't rate him that highly and invited him to explore the market, thinking someone else would be dumb enough to trigger band one...
No one bit so recontracting started, with a lot of posturing, Essendon played tough publicly talking his quality down etc but eventually caved and announced a five year contract, lots of back slapping, look fans we stood firm etc.
A few weeks later it comes out it's actually the six years he always wanted but the club wanted to win a pr war with its own player so lied to members and fans.
Absolutely broken culture

Its amazing isn't it. Todays was a beauty. If you were serious about building a strong foundations to challenge for the flag in 3 or so years, you'd get rid of Heppell, Sheil and Stringer (Goldstein wtf). Boggles the mind that the supporter base isn't napalm toxic ala Port and Melbourne boards (great reading and right on the money regarding the direction of their clubs).

* are where we were 10 years ago. Trying to top up with names (albeit burnt out) players, or holding onto players who were once great, or player with big upside but rarely deliver.
Another 2 pager in the Hun today by Ralphy looking at their 2024... was going on a super * puff piece with their trade period (8/10), draft hand etc... then he rates they'll finish around 12th in 2024... cue the * screams of Ralphy not putting them as a top 4 certainty.
