Here is what it could look like

Much better. We had this match up about 20 years ago I reckon James Hird played that game? Even better against Collingwood because when Essendon wear white shorts against Collingwood’s black and white, it’s a mess.
Imagine Richmond in yellow shorts v Essendon in red? Both could have home traditional jumper and a sweet match up, like AFLX .

Number 1 is cool. If red sash is important, then go with option two and overlay a thinner red sash over a thicker black sash. Still have a red sash but have a red clash jumper at the same time.

Is there a 'new jumpers for 2025' thread yet? Seen on FB.. dons maybe (finally) moving beyond constitutional mandate of having to wear a red sash.

Obviously Option 2 is a no brainer pick, the others are terrible, they look like skid marks. They should have offered a contrasting red sash option, that's the only other logical option for a red guernsey for them.

But Essendon could solve half their clashes, and still wear their beloved home jumper if they just occasionally wore the red shorts away against other very dark teams.
Technically their constitution also forbids red shorts (black or white shorts only) just as much as it forbids guernseys without a red sash, but that never seemed to bother them.

The Constitution also says they'll wear what the AFL directs them to wear.

Our constitution says we win every premiership. These are ridiculous things to put into a constitution.
Constitution’s can only work from the top down. As the AFL sits above the Essendon football club it has no say if uniforms clash with other clubs, constitution or no constitution.

It doesn’t even matter what’s in there because it ends with “subject to the rules and directions of the AFL”.

Literally anything goes.

Another look of what Essendon could wear in away games (I am an avid white shorts hater)

Genuinely sexy matchup, if they're absolutely adamant on not wearing a clash-resolving kit for ANZAC Day.

Hey, I actually like the red sash on red as a jumper, just looks gross forced with white shorts even wearing it with black shorts would be preferable. Not to mention it actually does the best job at resolving contrast issues than adding a black sash. Will be nice to see a black sash on red for a change, but means absolutely nothing if they keep on with the white shorts.

The two-tone sash-on-red is the best idea, ludicrous they haven't gone down that route.

Always thought they could have played off a tile pattern too, going off the pavers out at Windy Hill.

Colourless shorts should have phased out like with the womens, white uniforms and shorts look weak and bare, umpires should be the only ones wearing them.
Did you just call the umpires “weak and bare”?
