NIRS accuses McLaren of favouring Dons.

Stated that it was the best $20k ever spent by the Dons as it has helped them to a winning lead.

Seemed to think that McLaren is definitely favouring the Dons after half time. Indicated that someone may have said something to him at half time about the Dons free kicks. According to their broadcasters obvious contradiction in at least 2 decisions where he has gone one way for a front on tackle involving the Blues and then gone the opposite for the same front on tackle less than 2 minutes later favouring the Dons. 3 goals in 3rd quarter to Dons directly from decisions by McLaren which were very doubtful.

Scathing in their reporting of his performance.

Said that if it wasn't National radio they would definitely have something to say about McLaren and his performance. Has opened the game up by some bad decisions favouring one team and given the Dons the impetus to win.

Dons now flying.

Comments from NIRS.
Another soft free kick by McLaren to the Dons where there was no contact. Ridiculous umpiring. Will be back in the bush next week. Has gone out of his way to favour Dons.

Give Sheedy credit his ploy to criticise McLaren has worked. One of the commentators said " that was a bit rich". Replyit worked Very good psychologist is Sheedy.

Hard to say who the commentators were. One is Mick McGuane but I don't know the other voices.

essendon are the masters of spin,, is this what the afl are nowdays, Hird you are ok,, 20000 in the back pocket its the most bias thing i have ever seen 5 goals from free kicks,,, **** me ,, i will buys 5 goals every week, i will spend 20000 grand to buy 5 goals

As a more or less objective supporter, all I can say is some of the things that happened in this game are absolutely outrageous. If I were a Carlton supporter I would be mad to the point of committing murder. The fact that the way a game is umpired can be so obviously influenced by public pressure put on umpires makes a laughingstock of the whole code.

Sad day for footy.

Umpiring has been terrible again, but it has been for most of the season.

One of the worst was the free kick to McPhee in the 3rd qtr when he threw himself back into Stevens - that was pretty obvious.

McLaren's efforts today was the same as the Saints vs Bombers one: pretty crap umpiring.

As a bomber supporter I thought the frees were pretty soft as well, especially Lloyd who had plenty of soft ones (though he ended up missing all the shots).

Besides that, we should've thumped them by 10 goals, we took our foot off the pedal when we were 56 points in front with 5 minutes to go, our percentage is ****ed and we need all the boost we need, and that little lapse didn't help.

That is the best Essendon have ever done out of the umpires.....but for all those who are bleeting about it, these are the sort of decisions that have consistently gone against Essendon for the best part of 4 years.

All those people who have been saying that Bomber Supporters are biased and whingers are the same people complaining about the umpires tonight.

Yes, the Bombers had the better of it tonight. But its about bloody time!

we should've thumped them by 10 goals

What if, what if... blah blah balh. We should've won against the Roos, we should've beaten an undermanned Geelong in a particular final in 1994. Just move on, will ya?

Well done Essendon. Clearly the better side - I don't know what happened after half time? But what can say is that Johnson was a great pickup for us - most people expected Scotland and Stevens to do well but Johnson? As I have said in the past; Hulme should be dropped. It ****es me of to no end that this hack is playing while better players like McCormick and Davies are left in the VFL picking up BOGs from there. I have always maintained that I have doubts with the recruitment of Clarke and Harford - seems after tonight that I'm still going to be sticking by that.

But I did think that for Bannister as well - but he has proved me wrong and has been great so far. I just thought Thornton did enough to unsettle Lloyd on his set shots, ram his body into him when going for goal. You will rarely see Lloyd miss shots like waht he did tonight, but despite getting beaten on the lead, I thought Thornton did very well to quell his influence. His pressure on Lloyd was outstanding.

McPhee seems to love playing against us in recent times - BOG for him. Fletcher did pretty well limiting Fevola although it's fair to say that after half time the ball was rarely moving into the forward line, if at all. And I must mention the performance from Sporn - did a great job on Hird in the first half, and while Hird got more of the pill in the 2nd, Sporn was still quelching his influence. Would've got uglier had Sporn and Thornton not been playing. Didn't matter - the Dons had other options than Hird.

It was funny to see Murphy having a go at the crowd - I thought he didn't do too badly. Will be alright for Essendon with support. I didn't notice Allan that much.

Well West Coast at OO next week... they'll be without their two best ruckman. I reckon we're a chance if we can just stay consistent for four quarters rather than play well in the first half and drop off from there. Fevola would want to improve next week (as with several other players) - I don't see anyone from WC's defense capable enough of stopping him.

Memo to PAgan - get rid of Hulme! I'd rather Franchina (and that's saying something).

Ah yes... On cue...

That's what won us the game... Not the fact carlton were just ****, but the umpires... Who said what about whinging?

I thought Carlton were in trouble from the opening bounce of the 2nd half when the Essendon ruckman (I think it was Hille, not Allan) grabbed the ball for what seemed an inordinate amount of time. Yet no Carlton players rushed in to tackle him - let alone pressure him - and he was able to dispose of the ball with ease.

It seemed from this moment that the intensity that Carlton had in the changerooms at halftime had evaporated and it was only a matter of time before Essendon got on top. Essendon were superb after half-time, even if the opposition turned into a rabble in the latter stages.

McPhee almost saved Pagan the trouble. Late in the 2nd Q Hulme just managed to duck under a McPhee elbow which would have knocked him into about next February.

Brett Johnson 19 touches at half time and 24 at full time. Guess he found it difficult when suddenly he has an opponent, unlike the 1st half where the entire Essendon 18 refused to move anywhere near him

Being benched for suprisingly large amounts of time in the 2nd and 3rd quarters probably didn't help. Why would he need to be benched at all? If a player's on fire, keep him on the ground!
