Good to see that the Youth team beat Burnley 3-0 in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

Both Rodwell and Baxter (First game back from injury) played, with Rodwell scoring the second goal.

Not sure if Dan Gosling played.

The local papers are saying that the changes to our lineup will be one of the following:

- Cahill dropping back to CM with Anichebe starting as a striker (Says likely).

OR

- Gosling replacing Fellaini, with Cahill remaining as striker.

I would be prepared to go with the first option for the first derby, however if it doesn't work out, go for the second option for the next derby. If Vic can't grasp this sort of opportunity on monday night, then he never will.

I'd rather the second.

Vic has had plenty of opportunities to score goals. Granted a lot of his appearances are +80mins, but he's had others where he has started or come on early and can't score. He can't hold the ball up either. No skill.

I'd be prepared to give Vic a crack at the first derby, on the basis that it releases Cahill back to his usual role.

If we were to keep Cahill up front on his own, then who do we have that can support him from midfield? I'm not so sure that Gosling is the type of player that can fill that roll. In saying that though, if Anichibe plays poorly in the first derby, then we have nothing to lose by dropping him for Gosling.

Well from watching Goslings first two games, I would say he is definitely that type of player. He got forward so much.

I agree that he looks like he is good at getting forward and did it alot in his two league games, but that doesn't necesserily mean that he is the right person to fulfill the support striker role in a derby game. Yes, he is good at making late runs into the box, but how good is he at holding the ball up and how strong is he in the air? I don't think either of us know the answer to those questions.

Derby matches, as you know are quite physical and we tend to play many long balls. It is a prerequisite that our attacking men are strong in the air. A large part of the role that Gosling would be playing is flicking a long ball into the path of the lone striker, into the path of another midfielder or at goal. This is what Cahill and Fellaini are excellent at doing and whether or not Gosling can do that is anybodies guess.

At least with Anichebe playing, we know that he is physical and relatively good in the air compared to other parts of his game. At least if he plays, we wont have to worry about the support striker position as Cahill will resume that role.

If playing Anichebe doesn't work in the league derby, then we may as well try Gosling in a very attacking role for the cup derby.

both games i would rather Victor up front with timmy dropping back into his midfield role..

to me the league is most important because we 4th spot is still a realistic option, but with the FA cup, well if Pompey can win it so can we, and I think the need for some form of trophy is greater than the off chance Arsenal will keep slipping and Aston Villa slip up..

News on the loan front is as follows...

Everton in negations to loan Racing Striker Mohammed Tchite:

Everton to explore loan deal for Joao Moutinho:
(Very left field but if we can pull it off...)
http://www.goal.com/en/news/724/pre...6/everton-explore-loan-deal-for-joao-moutinho

Tschite's club has said that they want a permanent deal, rather than a loan, so that most likely puts us out of the equation.

Moutinho is captain of a club in the last 16 of the champions league, so Sporting would have to be on some pretty strong party drugs to loan him out.

We will proberbly end up signing nobody in this window. If we were, then we would already have the deal done IMO.

The best we can hope for is signing a young up and comer like Danny Welbeck or an out of favour player who has done the job at this level before like Paul Dikov or Francis Jeffers.

I went into this game with a strange feeling of confidence; sure, they might think they're a chance to win it, but I knew it would mean a lot to us to deny them. To win it would have been perfect, but a 1-1 draw with a last-gasp equaliser in front of the home fans...as far as draws go, it doesn't get much better.

We've now denied them top spot and have kept our points tally ticking over, all while we wait for Saha and Vaughan (and Yakubu) to return. Without Yobo and Fellaini as well, it was a game that would require some of the lesser lights - Hibbert, Anichebe and Baines - to stand up. And for the most part, without shining, they did, and you have to respect that.

It's a good end result, even if we wanted to win. It was probably a fair result too.

I hope we can force at least a draw in the Cup.

Ratings:

Howard: 7.5 - made some good saves and generally did well. Felt he could have been a fraction more aware for the goal - Gerrard always hits to that corner.

Hibbert: 6.5 - Defended alright but again, distribution was poor, particuarly in the first half. Still, he does the job when required.
Jagielka: 7 - The pick of the defenders on the day, let down only by letting Torres through in the first half and was lucky not to give a penalty away. But such a solid defender and a fine passer.
Lescott: 7 - Did well, seldom troubled.
Baines: 7 - Growing into a player. Classy when he gets the ball and looks comfortable in the first XI. Great saving tackle to prevent a goal, too.

Osman: 6 - Buzzed around and pressed as usual but didn't really ever threaten to create or score.
Neville: 6 - Didn't notice he was there for a long time, the match seemed to happen around him. Had a more effective second half.
Arteta: 7 - Worked hard and aggresively. Not his best ever game but he always looked hungry and willing.
Pienaar: 8.5 - Superb man-of-the-match performance. Never gave up and constantly threatened, running at defenders and at times looked our only threat. Great passing, vision and touch. Thought he might sink after getting a yellow but it didn't affect him at all.

Cahill: 8 - Great finish from a player who has an extrodinary knack of pulling us out of trouble when we need it. Deserved his goal and never gave up up pushing them time after time. He is pure solid gold for us.
Anichibe: 6.5 - Worked hard but doesn't really get into great finishing position. Somewhat unlucky to miss out on a penalty. Did well to run out his knock, liked that he didn't puff out completely on 65 minutes and played 'till the end, winning the key free kick.

I love the man(Cahill). Pretty happy with the result, we played pretty well Gerrards goal was unstoppable. Baines was awesome and Pienaar was everywhere, even Anichebe played well, he seemed more at home in a wide role, can take a defender on. He just needs to learn when to keeps his feet and when to go down, he seems to go down too easily.

Thought Baines was great and so was Neville. Osman gave away the ball too much and Anichebe whil he performed admirably, just didn't use it well enough.

I agree. Baines/Jagielka/Lescott/Neville or Hibbert have shown enough for me to say that this is our best back four.

Yobo is just going to have to get used to it.

Surely Yobo is ahead of Hibbert...?

Hibbert may be a grittier defender but Yobo is definitely a better option. However, Lescott-Jagielka is our best back two pairing.

Nice to have a selection headache for once.

In an ideal world it would be Neville at right back, but second choice has to be Hibbert. He has played 200+ times there and is used to playing the position, whereas Yobo has played very few matches there and isn't used to the position as much as Hibbert is. I also wouldn't expect Yobo's crossing to be any good (then again Hibbert's isn't too flash;)).

Wouldn't be bad having Pienaar on the right and Baines on the left while getting rid of Osman with Lescott slotting back into left back. But i can't see it happening, hopefully the team stays as it is with Yobo on the bench.

I think Baines has a number of attributes that would make him a good winger, however the manager doesn't seem to think so.

In other news, there is going to be another £10 million hole in our budget.

http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk...everton-s-10m-homes-plan-blow-64375-22741414/

EVERTON FC has lost an inquiry to build homes on its former training ground, resulting in the loss of up £10m for the club.

That puts another dent into the stadium move, which IMO is looking shakier with every passing day (Despite what the club says).

We desperately need to increase our revenue streams. But yes the move is looking very shaky.

I can't believe it is 23/1 and given our squad no one has been signed!! Get onto it Kenwright.

Well, other than ManC and Spurs, no one has really made any big signings yet, so thats ok. But we really need a striker in.. I know its hard to get good strikers on loan, but anything is better than Anichebe - who looks better playing as a winger who comes inside. (He doesn't have to hold the ball up as much, cause he sucks at that)
