Every club can play finals in 2010 - if they field this "best 22" each week!

Freo's team always looks great on paper, they have enough experienced players and quality youngsters..i wouldnt be surprised if they shot up the ladder.

Our best 22 last year looked ok too, just the fact we had shithouse depth which was exposed when we started getting a few injuries, the midfield in particular (losing Palmer and Crowley) was very difficult to cover. Our best 22 this year is a little better, and we have improved depth, but it doesn't mean shit, injuries are inevitable and just part of footy.

I think though if we can maintain a reasonable stable core of Pav/Sandi/Hayden/Hase/Palmer/Tarrant we will do ok.

These are my "best 22" for each club.

MELBOURNE:

B Garland Warnock Bennell
HB Rivers Frawley Joel MacDonald
C Morton Moloney Davey
HF Bate Miller Sylvia
F Watts Jurrah Woneamirri
FOLL Jamar Grimes Jones
INT Ja McDonald Petterd Bruce Trengove
E P Johnson Martin Dunn

You left out a 'best 5' player in Brad Green. Green is ready to slot back into the forward line as he's an excellent lead, mark and kick for goal. Grimes will remain on a back flank. Scully definately makes this side. And Maric will be thereabouts.

Some opposition supporters have questioned our forward line, but with Jurrah, Green, Bate, Wonaeamirri, Sylvia, Trengove, Davey, Maric, Petterd, Watts, Morton, Martin, Miller and possibly Garland all having stints through there I don't quite share the pessimism.

There's no doubt it's a work in progress and lacks a proven 60 goal key forward, but it may surprise a few as it develops.

My best 22 is a bit different to the rest

B: Greg Broughton, Chris Tarrant, Roger Hayden

HB: Paul Duffield, Luke McPharlin, Nick Suban

C: Garrick Ibbotson, Paul Hasleby, Stephen Hill

HF: Anthony Morabito, Matthew Pavlich, Des Headland

FF: Michael Johnson, Chris Mayne, Hayden Ballantyne

Ruck: Aaron Sandilands, Rhys Palmer, Ryan Crowley

INT: Matt DeBoer, David Mundy, Antoni Grover, Adam McPhee

Emg: Kepler Bradley, Michael Walters, Clancee Pearce, Byron Schammer, Dean Soloman, Steven Dodd

Reports have also say that Murphy, Clarke, Roberton and Sibosado are having good pre-seasons. So I'm pretty happy with the depth going in to 2010.

Now give me a problem with that team.

Most of North BF posters would agree with something like this.
B: McMahon Grima Thompson
HB: Rawlings Hansen Harding
C: Anthony Ziebell Wells
HF: Warren Tarrant Harvey
F: Thomas Petrie Campbell
R: McIntosh Swallow Cunnington
I: Goldstein Adams Greenwood Pratt
E: Urquhart Firrito Wright

This is our real forward line:
HF: Cousins Post King
FF: Nahas Reiwoldt Morton

The same forward line which ran the Bombers around recently
Is that really how Richmond will set up? That's worse than I thought you'd be in 2010.

He's also getting slower while the game is speeding up.

He is so slow he beat Judd and the rest of the list in the Blues first time trial. While not pacy, the guy can gut run in good time. Comments like these lack insight about the modern game.

His 2008 was servicable before getting injured. 2007 was nothing special either.

He finished 2nd in your 2008 B&F despite his season finishing with an ankle injury in round 14. Nice write-down on that one. In 2007 he injured his foot in the first round and missed half the season.

The best thing about Brock is that he's fit and firing right now and hopefully remains so. I can't see any reason why a fit McLean wouldn't be in most teams first 22. Sorry!

That's all well and good, but you failed to mention all those shocking clangers he's responsible for.

I'm glad we persisted with Sylvia as there was a time when we all thought Col would go before Brock.

He'll be alright for Carlton. Nothing special.

Your Sydney team isn't far off. Anyway, nice effort, I think we are a shoo in for the finals. Unsure that Melbourne, Fremantle, Richmond or Norths are a realistic chance, everyone else, yes, injuries allowing of course.
I can't speak for the other teams as I realy don't know much about them but I disagree with you and I reckon based on these best 22's I'd say Fremantle is better on almost every line. Sydney probably just have the better followers this year.

Fremantle:

B: Greg Broughton, Chris Tarrant, Roger Hayden - Win
HB: Paul Duffield, Luke McPharlin, Nick Suban - Win
C: Garrick Ibbotson, Paul Hasleby, Stephen Hill - Even (But not for long)
HF: Anthony Morabito, Matthew Pavlich, Des Headland - Win
FF: Michael Johnson, Chris Mayne, Hayden Ballantyne - Even
Ruck: Aaron Sandilands, Rhys Palmer, Ryan Crowley - Loss
INT: Matt DeBoer, David Mundy, Antoni Grover, Adam McPhee - Win

Sydney:

B Bevan Roberts-Thompson RIchards
HB Grundy C Bolton Mattner
C Shaw J Bolton Jack
HF McVeigh O'Keefe McGlynn
F White Bradshaw Moore
FOLL Mumford Goodes Kirk
INT Bird Seaby Barlow Malceski

Fremantle also have a lot better depth than they've had before.

Is this the same McLean that as an opposition supporter you woud have ridiculed halfway through last year ? It's funny what those rose coloured glasses can suddenly do, even for those not overly familiar with him:). He's dropped away the quicker the game has become. He played 19 games last year and didn't feature in the wooden spooner's top 10 best and fairest, even though he was a senior player. Damning to say the least and another reason there was a lack of fight to keep him.

Also, it's great having endurance, although with the years he's been in the system it would be expected, but with the rotations in football now approaching 100 the game has never been faster. And this is McLean's achilles heel. He's terribly slow. His skill level is Ok, but he still makes his fair share of mistakes.

I wish him well. A good honest foot soldier. But a very slow one.

Not sure Carlton really needed him, but I'm happy with pick 11. Better than pick 12 for The Fev.
You'd take Gysberts ahead of pick 12 and Henderson?

Good finding a spot for Gysberts and Tapscott in your best 22.

Gysberts and Tapscott might have to push one of Sylvia, Grimes, Morton, Scully, Trengove, Petterd, Moloney, McDonald, Bruce Strauss, Blease, Woneammirri, Green, Maroc, Jetta, Bate, Davey, Bennell and Jones out of the side.

I can't see that happening in the next year or two.

Tapscott's fitness isn't a patch on Mclean's.

I'd take Mclean ahead of Jones who was dropped to the VFL last year.

And received a touch up from Luke Blackwell.

I don't rate Jones.

It appears Melbourne are the club who should have taken a punt on a KPP with one of their first round picks.

A Miller, Watts and Jurrah forwardline is piss poor.

To be changed at the drop of a hat if I feel like it...

CARLTON

B Bower Thornton Armfield
HB Houlihan Jamison Russell
C Joseph Murphy Simpson
HF Robinson Waite Yarran
F Betts O'Hailpin Garlett
FOLL Kreuzer Gibbs Judd
INT Henderson Scotland Carazzo Hampson

E McLean Grigg Wiggins
B Thornton Jamison Browne
HB Bower Austin Russell
C Gibbs Mclean Simpson
FOLL Kreuzer Judd Murphy
HF Robinson Waite Yarran
F Betts Henderson Walker

INT Hampson Carrazzo Joseph Scotland

Emergencies: Armfield Garlett Grigg Hadley Houlihan Lucas O'hAilpin Warnock O'keeffe

Is it wrong to tent up at photos of Robinson, Judd and Kreuzer?

They're built like brick shithouses.

PORT ADELAIDE:

B Surjan Carlisle Pettigrew
HB C Cornes Chaplin Krakouer
C Pearce K Cornes Salopek
HF Gray J Westhoff Rodan
F Ebert Tredrea D Motlop
FOLL Brogan Boak Cassisi
INT Cloke Logan Thomas Hartlett
E Moore Salter Schulz

Fair effort,

Mine:

B: Jacob Surjan (VC), Alipate Carlile, Troy Chaplin
HB: Matthew Broadbent, Chad Cornes, Matt Thomas
C: Danyle Pearce, Travis Boak (VC), Steven Salopek
HF: David Rodan, Warren Tredrea, Robbie Gray
F: Daniel Motlop, Nick Salter, Nathan Krakouer
R: Dean Brogan, Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi (CAPT)
INT: Matthew Lobbe, Hamish Hartlett, Brett Ebert, Jackson Trengove

EXT BENCH: Jason Davenport, Paul Stewart, Justin Westhoff

Pettigrew, Logan, Cloke and Westhoff are not in our best 22 IMO. I replace them respectively with Trengove, Broadbent, Lobbe, and Salter. Also a couple of position changes. Incl. Krak to the forward line, Ebert to the midfield.

However, your team is more close to the one I think will be picked come round 1.

I would have thought that Nash may get a bit of a run in the PA team next year......Is he just going to be a depth player?
