Expectations Cloke 2017

Consistent football in whatever forward role he's tasked with would be an improvement on last year's output and should see him play at least semi-regular senior footy. Anything beyond that is a bonus.

His best is outstanding but anyone who thinks he is capable of getting back to that is guessing. I don't think the Dogs expect the world from him, but they will expect a role player who does as he's asked.

He will want another flag and is a real chance of getting one... I have a feeling the change of scenery will do him good.

But if he played half the season, offered some crash/bash protection of other forwards and say kicked 20 goals, then youd think hes delivered on the contract
People forget that our forward line was dysfunctional for most of the season - our premiership CHF was an 11 game defender in his 2nd year. Cloke, even on the modest expectations in your post above, represents an improvement on our key forward stocks from last year. But the real benefit will be in releasing Stringer and Dickson especially from being 1st and 2nd banana in the forward line. Crameri's return will also help spread the load and provide match-up problems for opposition defences.

The impression I get is that he was identified as the missing piece for the dogs during 2016. Of course they ended up exceeding expectations by winning the premiership, with the players that Cloke would have been playing ahead of stepping up themselves. If an informal commitment was made by both parties before the finals, even with the 2016 success the dogs still felt beholden to honour it, however as Cloke opted to terminate a lucrative year at Collingwood rather than renege on such a speculated commitment, the dogs must have dangled a decent carrot in front of him, with a greater likelihood of game time than what he felt Buckley could promise.

I suspect he's now superfluous to needs, however he should still get around 10-14 senior games, and play a mentoring role in the VFL to the younger forwards.

Was a liability for us for the last 2 seasons, however talent like he has doesn't just up and vanish, he's mentally fragile though and needs his head to be in a good place to perform, i wouldn't be surprised if he kicked 50 but I also wouldn't be surprised if he was dropped after 2 games and didn't play another.

IMO his lack of form and hefty salary took its toll on him at Collingwood, he was under enormous pressure to perform and it seemed the harder he tried the worse he got, he won't have that pressure at the Kennel though, if he fails the Dogs have lost nothing really so he'll have pretty much no weight on his shoulders, if he starts enjoying his footy (and hasn't for some time) again he should be a very good pick up.

We haven't paid much so anything is a bonus I guess. My feeling is that Trav is cooked so doubt we will see much of him. Happy to be wrong though.

He won't be the main forward at the Dog's, so that might free things up for him, a bit. But he also may play every game in the VFL. It'll be interesting to see if he can do a Barry Hall at the dogs. Time will tell.

If the change of scenery turns his form around then he can play in the seniors until Redpath comes back. That's if they want the Roughead/Boyd ruck/fwd partnership (which should be a no brainer) and either Cloke or Redpath along with Crameri and Dickson.

I like it, but maybe they want to continue playing small and keep the Cloke/Redpath position out.. I don't know. They've got experimenting to do, which isn't a bad thing.

He has lost a noticeable amount of weight in the pre-season already, so I think we might be earmarking him for a Nick Riewoldt gut-running style role between the forward 50 and the wing.
