How will Essendon Fare?

Tricky one.

They definitely underperformed last season due to injuries, lack of depth and awful transition play.
Stringer trade should be addition by subtraction.

Overall they are a pretty young list but have a few prime age almost AA types on each line, and most players on the team should be better then last year.

I think Essendon got better this offseason but a bunch of teams that missed finals also got better this summer.

Best case scenario: team stays fully healthy and a few of the younger high picks have breakout years (Zac Reid, Tsatas, Nick Bryan, Caddy, Kako, Perkins). They fix their transition issues and are as good as any team in the comp.

Likely Scenario: to be in the 14-10 range and miss finals again. Go Strong into the trade period trying to untangle the list Mess Dodorro created

I hate saying yes as it will jinx me but it would surprise me if Hawthorn doesn’t do at least as well as last year with a further year of development of our young crop plus adding in Battle and Barrass. But things can fall to bits unexpectedly

In other words I’m pretty bolshy

Given how close the previous two seasons have been I think heading into 2025 there would be 15 teams that could say they have some chance for finals.

Richmond, West Coast, North will be happy to be competitive, everyone else has won a minimum of 11 games in either 23 or 24 so not far off the mark.

Of the teams that missed this year, Collingwood and Freo have put the chips in during trade week.

What are the pass marks for the other teams that didn't play finals for 2025.

Essendon
St Kilda
Gold Coast
Melbourne
Adelaide
Crows need to win a final or Nicks will be looking for a new job.

No excuses with an improved squad with FA/trades ins & most of the best 22 now 50+ games.

Had a look at our fixture. Looks decent on paper.

At most, 15 wins which would put us somewhere in that 5th to 14th logjam.

At worst, bottom 6 finish again and Goodwin gets the sack.

Mainly looking forward to watching the younger blokes and draftees develop, and anything more than that will be a positive.

Don't think he needs to win a final but he must at least make them
