Going to be stuck in the bottom 4 for years IMO...or always out of the eight.

We just cant compete compared to other clubs they just develop players better than us.

Really worried that with no finals coming up in the forseeable future we are going to see a generation of players who will not experience a grand final
We stay down too long we could have a generation of no finals at all let alone GFs

Look at Heppell... no finals win in 250+ games

Yes but look at the reasons for Essendon's failures.

Basically had the same muppets making the same bad calls for the better part of 2 decades, especially when it comes to their shocking list management.

Then there's the Hird/ASADA fiasco, division amongst their board, etc.

WCE have made some poor decisions in recent years but at the very least, the board appears unified and there doesn't appear to be any fractures at the club, at least not publicly.

I want us (Pyke) to really push for the blocks of games at home thing

Play 3 games In WA then have a block on the road and hub.

Eg

rd1 Gabba
rd2 SCG
rd3 MCG
rd4 OPTUS derby
rd5 OPTUS
rd6 OPTUS
rd7 OPTUS

That way it takes the load off travel and guys can bond etc

Idk if this is a good long term option, once the guys get older and start to have kids and stuff they wont be as happy to do this. Works well while the list is so young though for sure.

A couple of 2 game stints in Melbourne or wherever might be good though.
Definitely push for an Adelaide away game the week before or after gather round like we did last year, idk why we lost it this year tbh

Well they need to decide whether they want to be well paid to play footy or make babies. One or the other

Bottom three.

I just hope the kids we draft give us a some hope for another 1 or 2 games. Also, Hewett with a pre-season working in tandem with Reid.

People do this all the time for their work. Spending 1-2 weeks away a couple of times a year for your job is hardly arduous.

I know its not arduous, but it will still be a point of contention and a negative when trying to entice players from over east.
Very few prefer to do fifo, even fewer who have kids and a missus

'The gulf between the Eagles and the competition benchmarks is stark, so there is much work to do. The club understands the importance and magnitude of the task to bridge the gap with some key decisions and changes required, starting with the appointment of its seventh senior coach. The trade and draft periods are also critical so they will be active as they seek to build depth and talent into the list to push higher. The pre-season preparations will also be big as they need to build strength and durability..'

I'm sure if you said we'd win 5 games, one being a Derby, a few losses of less than 12 points and zero 100 point losses I'm sure everyone would've taken that.

But Jesus Christ, pride in performance has to pick up at some stage, right? I'm kinda over the games where it's over at quarter time or half time with players walking around and showing no effort to run defensively..Hope the new coach stomps the lazy loser mentality out of them.

The year we had this year I wasn't expecting until next year, although I hoped for more losses around the 30 point mark as opposed to 70.

A similar year to 2024 is OK. Same wins but a percentage of 75% should be the floor we hope for.

Perhaps the week long stint in Melbourne covering 2 weekends allows for the Vic players to spend more organised time with family in the middle of the week?

How much time do they actually need?
The teams travel 2 days before playing, lets say they have a Sunday game. They travel Friday, they get friday evening and saturday outside the training times theyre needed by the club. If they need more time there is the bye, and chunk of the offseason.
Their family could also make the incredibly tough journey across to the west if they were that keen on spending more time.

My suggestion would be to have an away game the week before the bye, then a home game after it.
Theyd get their few days in vic or wherever they like straight after the game, then come back for a week before the post bye home game.

Schedule it the same for both west coast and freo

Wins and losses not the best indication but a further improvement in the % to over 80 should be the aim

Really need to address the ease of the ball rebounding out of our forward line, the low possession count in most games and Ruck/midfield issues.

Need a way better return from trades as we got very little from Flynn and Brockman for various reasons which is a very poor return for a rebuilding team

We did get a lot of games into our younger players so we should start seeing the benefit more next year

It's this sort of soft mollycoddling culture that has got us to where we are IMO. Im not talking FIFO, just the occasional business trip twice a year. If that is a sticking point for some players then we dont want them.
I cant see it being a recruitment issue. Hey, Vic player, come play at West Coast and twice a year you will get a 10 day break from the bubble and strife and get to catch up with your mates in Melbourne for a week while playing a bit of footy.

On the other hand id say the mollycoddling is thinking the players need more than a few hours over a couple of days to catch up. They get it a few times a year, and their mates can fly over to the west to see them too.

What? Haha, nice way to try and twist it. That was never the reason for the back to back games in Vic and you know it. It is simply to reduce air travel fatigue to reduce injury, not so players can catch up with their mates.
Your argument was that that a week or 2 away each year will be too much time away from family for some players and it would prevent recruitment from over east. I pointed out that it would have no bearing on their decision and in fact it would have the added benefit of giving them a little extended visit in Vic a couple of times a year.

Just admit your initial argument doesn't hold water rather than trying to dig a deeper hole.

I said it will be a negative when trying to entice players over and the guys with kids would strongly prefer NOT to do it.

Im not twisting anything lol.
If given the option very few WANT to do trips away during the year like that. You brought up seeing their mates/family, its not like they wont have the chance during the season or in the offseason lmao.

Home games
week 1 WCE & Freo home
week 2 WCE home freo away
Week 3 Freo home WCE away
Week 4 WCE & freo Home
and so on
