Had one other memorable one. Was at one of the Hall of Fame dinners and got chatting to Jo Silvagni. She knows I am a Collingwood tragic so says come with me and I will introduce you to Daics. She drops me off at his table where he is with Wayne Richardson. I used to wear Wayne's number on my jumper when I was a kid so pretty big to meet them both. Got to sit with them at their table for a while and have a talk. Both very friendly.

Are you kidding?
yeah we cleaned up North I think....we hardly ever lost out there
That was the match Daicos ripped a new one into north
And an obligatory magic goal too boot (pun intended)

Rob happy new year.
Do you live in jindabyne? As per your avatar?
Lovely place, been many times, though not for a few years.
I used to go to Thredbo twice a year for many years, winter and summer.
Love that whole area.

I am hurt. My avatar is noting Carlton suffering, my stories involve Carlton pain. No confessions, nothing to tell.

You're top notch.

Jindi's our summer abode Saint. Wife hails from up here. 8 Months of the year we live in Torquay where my surfboard business is located but summer is all about the high country and escaping the crowds, so yeah it works out quite well.
Happy New Year to everyone at bigfooty too.

Time and place for it imo, it would be bloody painful every 5 secs having to smile and entertain strangers.

We may "feel" we "know" them following them weekly but really they are a stranger most of us have no idea about the real them "the person" rather then the footballer we cheer on weekly and follow across the year.
They sure as hell don't know us except for maybe a few that staunchly go to trainings etc and slowly build a real relationship with them.

I'm saying walking past them and saying "HI" not going into a full bloody conversation.

Waited around to chat with Peter Daicos at a sportsmen's night and decided not to hold back. After a brief introduction and a bear hug, I looked up at him and said." I have actually cried at the footy when watching you, Daics" I thought he might laugh or make a joke along the lines of "Was I that bad?....but he sensed the genuine emotion in my voice and said:"What's your name?" after telling him he simply said, "Mark, that's a really lovely thing to say." he posed for photos with me and my grown up son. To cap off my night he walked past me 15 minutes later and he rubbed my head-I grabbed his hand and kissed it! He laughed and said-" No way..come on!" I think he got the feeling I liked him!

I' glad I put it out there. watching Daics was a transcendent experience on many occasions. I go to my grave knowing I told the legend as much to his face.

I walked past big Bob Heard up at Daylesford earlier this year. I asked him the time before it dawned on me who it was. He was with his wife and after they walked away I was kicking myself for not saying something. After all, Bob played in an iconic era , including the infamous 1970 GF. I was waiting for my wife and leaning on my car when I saw Bob and his wife coming back toward me. I took a deep breath, walked over to him and said, "Bob Heard, may i shake your hand?" The next ten minutes were bliss. He and his wife were lovely and both were happy to reminisce about the good old days. Bob's wife was still furious with Bobby Rose for not bringing Bob off the bench until late in the final quarter. I talked about the prelim in 73 against Richmond when Bob took some great contested marks and banged through a couple of goals inside a minute. He was loving it. When I told him he was a very underrated tap ruckman, Bob concurred and proceeded to show me how he use to flick the pill out the back and to the side. After a couple of very wristy demonstrations he laughed and said he better be careful going all limp wristed like that in Daylesford! His wife told me that when he went to Richmond, Barry Rowlings said he was the best tap ruckman he played with. That was a great day!

When I was posted to my first teaching position at a school in Rosanna, I'll never forget the first time I walked into the staffroom. Leigh Carlson was sitting at the table eating his lunch! I had just seen him perform admirably the year before in the 1979 GF and now he was a fellow teacher! It took me a few weeks to summon up the courage to chat with him. I was like a tongue tied boy trying to hook up with a girl!

One day we were the only two in the staffroom and we began to chat. We hit it off and found we had alot in common. This friendship gave me an insight to the club I had only ever dreamed about. Leigh would tell me about Hafey's prematch speeches and Phil Carman's strange behaviour. Leigh actually loved him as a bloke. He laughed about Rene Kink's cockiness and used to express great frustration about Kevin Morris's disposal and alack of footy smarts. Leigh played in the 1980 GF against Richmond that first year I was with him and I was one of the first people to be told Collingwood had traded him with Warwick Irwin mid way through the season the following year. Leigh was shattered at the time. Fate ordained that Fitzroy played Collingwood in one of the greatest finals in history. Leigh played well, but in that titanic last quarter I told Leigh I discovered my love for Collingwood was more powerful than my good wishes for Leigh. He nearly drilled a 60 metre torp with a minute or so remaining on the clock. We hung on to win by a point.

Leigh told me some bloodcurdling stories about life under Robert Walls but they won't be shared in this forum!

To this day Leigh remains one of my closest friends. He is a beautiful man.

You don't post very often domus, but when you do its gold!:)

Given you're 17;) I assume you've found some good footage of the great man.

Tapes actually, My mum used to record all Collingwood matches, There would have had to been over 100 tapes of just Collingwood matches. (Win or loss). She gave them to me when I was around 9, I used to just sit there was them in my spare time on the old Video player, I used to take the names down, the numbers that they wore and positions they played because we didn't have internet.

Daicos was my all time favourite from the tapes (ther were loads starting from 89) because I'd always be out trying to dribble goals, So yeah I love him.

Yeah, I've kept them as in the best condition as I possibly can, Still have a working VHS player too. :)

Did you ever think of putting them on DVD or Computer to make Digital Copies?
