Eye Rolling Movie Tropes

Big city lawyer developer female visits small town seeking to put a walmart in.

Female meets local man whose family's lived there for generations.

They lock eyes, chat, fall in love.

Female goes to males place, finds out he has a daughter and a golden retriever. He's divorced.

They argue about future development. Male tells her to leave. Female leaves and is about to board the plane when mans daughter rushes to the gate begging her to come back.

Female changes tune, calls off development. Embraces male as they kiss in the rain.

This feels a bit too specific to be a trope to me

Saw the Identical Stranger trope in an old ACP. Needless to say meeting the 1980s young female brat who looks exactly like his young daughter who died decades ago doesn’t go well for the old man.

Watched a movie the other day.
Marines getting around with the chin straps on their helmets undone.
Pyscho drill sergeant,bastard Military Police,
peeling a mountain of potatoes as a punishment.
Tigerland could easily be renamed Tropeland.
2.5 stars

Channel hopping does not usually work unless you are Fred MacMurray.

Buffy aired on the WB and then hopped over to UPN which is the ratings equivalent of being rescued from the Titanic by the Hindenburg.

Howard Hughes parodies are a cliche. Though as with Paul Lynde impressions, do the kids know who is being parodied?
By the way, what did Mr. Burns do with his jars of wee? ;)

Jack Reacher has that horrible trope about working out someone's password by guessing what the person's favourite things are, as if writers have no idea how the world actually works. I mean we're talking about an security industry professional who has gone to some lengths to hide a device then using a straightforward name as a password to lock it. Just lazy lazy writing. I still like the show though coz I've read the books and whatnot, but if I was coming in cold that sort of thing would probably be a deal-breaker.

When a man tries to be gallant by taking off his coat and draping it around a shivering woman, he doesn't check the pockets first for his wallet, car keys, house key or anything else he might need before he gets the coat back.

Well, I never pass anything with pockets in it to anybody under any circumstances without thoroughly checking the pockets first. That's just basic common sense, IMHO. As a result, I've never gotten separated from anything I needed that was in the pocket.

Movies and TV shows usually want to present a smooth, grandiose, gallant gesture of the man instantly draping his coat over the shivering woman's shoulder, rather than having him do the sensible thing and check the pockets first. When I see that happen on-screen, I lose my ability to sympathize or empathize with the character over any misfortune that befalls him as a result of his coat donation.

You just ****ed the ending of Titanic

Why are movies and shows obsessed with characters telling other characters to "get some rest"? When is the last time you said that to someone in real life?
