$$$ wins out, which has been a hallmark of the Liberty Era sadly.

Countries are willing to pay stupid money to host a GP, and get 3 people and 7 goats to attend.

Melbourne lost money on an event that over 400K people attended, that isn't right.

I’ve been to Melbourne a few times over the years and had different vantage points; but each time I come away thinking it’s better viewing on tv
F1 generally is, but I still love going to a race every now and then. I've been to Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, Spa and Adelaide, loved them all.

It's a TV sport now (possibly always has been), I don't recall ever having the crowd impact upon my enjoyment of a race.

Spa is one of my favourite tracks (true for many of us I guess) but from those lucky enough to have attended the Spa circuit, the live experience is apparently pretty lousy. If I wanted to "experience" racing - the smells, the sounds - I'd support local events. I'm quite happy sitting in the comfort of my own home, with free food and drink, air conditioning and visibility over the whole track - these days with live timing and commentary that occasionally adds something relevant to the experience.

It's the track that matters to me - how good is the racing, is overtaking possible (but challenging); etc.

At least it's not cancelled.

I'm open to the thought of rotating circuits as there's too many options to fit on one calendar, but it's disappointing that one of the best circuits to watch is on the rotation list despite some of the dross already on the calendar.
This is the first step in dumping it. Once its on a rotation its only a matter of time until its out the door. And no doubt they will rotate it with another historic European track, so they can fit in another soulless track in some random middle eastern sandpit.

Di$graceful move by FOM.

I went to Spa in 2022 and the live experience was anything but lousy. Incredible for the whole weekend. And I camped close to the circuit in a little one person tent.

the experience of being there is more satisfying tho for mine. although it does depend on where you’re positioned. it is true that the nature of the sport makes the overall vision less than cameras around the track offers.

Jack Doohan right now

Colapinto brings a bucketload of money with him too.

He's fast, but reckless. If he can tone it down a bit with experience he'll be a pretty good prospect.

Might sound harsh and a bit anti-Aussie, but Jack doesnt scream "F1 material" to me. Hopefully he can start the season well and bag a few points because if he doesn't he'll be driving WEC by mid year.

Not sure how you came to the assessment that Doohan isn't F1 material. Was more impressive in F2 than Colapinto

Yeah its a fair point, I just dont see him having it.

Colapinto came in and was super quick straight away, albeit at a track that car was suited to. I dont necessarily see their F2 form as relevant given what Bearman was able to do this year.

Jack has deserved his chance, but I think Franco is the better prospect long term. Also as I mentioned, he's a better bet prospect commercially.

Doohan is gone because of money.

That said I don't know why colapinto would want to go to alpine anyway. If I was him I would have waited for a better seat to open up.

Its a tough one.

Guys like Piastri and Lawson have shown you dont necessarily need to stay in a car all the time to still find a seat, but if he can push Gasly if/when he gets a chance then that will set him up.

Opposite can be said too, if he keeps fencing cars then no matter what money he brings, F1 wont want him long.
