Bulldogs Preview: The game has been announced as the Jim Stynes Tribute Match in honour of the great man. After one of their poorest performances in many years, the Dogs are still looking for that first win and will need to prove that the team is better than their game against St Kilda where almost everything went wrong. As are Melbourne, they have been unimpressive in all three outings this year and look far from turning that around. This game is not going to be one for the ages and will be of little interest to anyone other than supporters of the two teams, but times like these are where the club needs as much support as it can get, provided they put in a solid effort on the back of last week.

At the Selector's Table: After a poor performance across the board, over half the team will have question marks on their heads. However, McCartney does not look like one to make huge changes, so don’t expect more then 3 or 4 outs .Following his brain fade, Lake will miss one week through suspension. Smith may be given a week off to rest, having had quiet games following his outstanding round 1 performance. Roughead has been quiet all year and may be sent back to Williamstown to find touch, however this will depend on whether the coach is willing to persist with three ruckmen or not. Next in line are possibly Grant, Wood and perhaps even established names Cross and Higgins. Sherman and Wallis had impressive games for Williamstown, whilst Dickson was pulled out early for possible late inclusion before being overlooked. Both Hill and Campbell have played well for the Seagulls and could possibly be tested at full forward.Prediction: In: Wallis, Sherman, Dickson Out: Lake, Smith, Roughead

The Game: Melbourne’s big target up forward this year has been recruit Mitch Clarke, who impressed with 5 goals in round 2 but has been inconsistent. Markovic once again has a big job with Lake out of the side as the only tall KPD. Watts and Howe can be dangerous, however the Demon’s fowardline should not be of great concern. Under Neeld, Melbourne have been bringing the ball up the ground out wide rather than through the centre corridor, and do so through longer kicks. This exposes them to quick turnovers, so guys like Dahlhaus and Griffen will be important to run the ball back through the middle with speed to capitalise on this. The Demons have some hard nuts in McKenzie, Magner, Tapscott and Jones, but should be outclassed in this aspect by Boyd, Cross and Liberatore. Yet again, if the Bulldogs are to have a chance this week, they need to have some sort of functionality in their forwardline. The Dogs managed to beat St Kilda on inside 50’s, but had no impact on the scoreline, having kicked just 2 goals until the 20 minute mark of Q4. Delivery from the midfield must improve, and the forwards must be accountable to stop the loose Melbourne defenders from taking the ball out with ease as is what happened last week. Jones will be matched on the impressive Frawley and will be up against it, and needs support from Cordy. Melbourne’s defence leaked 20 goals against Richmond so is vulnerable, but with a missing Dogs forwardline, this area of the ground is up for grabs.

Players to Watch:
The Forwardline: Must step up, every single player in there. Jones, Grant and Cordy need to take marks, Higgins, Giansiracusa, Dahlhaus and possibly Dickson need to be there to crumb and provide alternative marking options. Whilst the blame is not to be placed entirely on these players, 2 goals in three and a half quarters of football is not good enough.
Robert Murphy: May play on Watts at half back, his dash out of defence will help to set up movements forward, and if he can hit the right targets, will help to give our mids a chance to kick inside 50 with greater efficiency.

Prediction: Absolute must win. If the team shows up as they did in rounds 1 and 2, they should win, and win easily. However if they pull off another performance like last week, the game will go to Melbourne, and serious questions will need to be asked. McCartney should have almost all players in the gun, and they will be keen to make amends for last week’s embarrassment. Bulldogs by 30.

I will be as brief as possible.

Both teams are an embarrasment to their loyal members, luckily for the Dees
their members signed up early.

Dees by 20 points, Stynes death and MCG main factors.

Im confident we will win. Our midfield should smash the dees. We haven't been playing really badly this year, just our forward line has been horrible, unorganised, and hard to score in. With enough forward drive, I think we will just make it happen this week, being desperate for a win.

Dogs by 58 points.

Great preview although I disagree that Roughead has been quiet all year, in fact I thought he was very good on Saturday against the Saints. He was asked to play defence because Hargrave and Wood were getting smashed and showed some much needed intensity when competing for marks, that said team balance may dictate we need to drop a ruckman. I'd like to see Hill get a game (I know it's early in his development) because he moves like a natural forward and can take a catch and play down back if needed. I thought we got sucked into kicking long bombs into Cordy and co against the Saints in hope they would take a mark or force a contest for our crumbers. Hill actually presents well and so does Jones (he's not ready for one on one contests just yet) which will make us less predictable and more dangerous. It will also give Gia, Dahlhaus and co a chance to use there smarts... Call me optimistic or plain old stupid but I think we'll win easily this week..

Feeling nervous about this game, especially with Lake out. Our midfield should get on top since the effort is mostly there, but the delivery into the forward line has gotten worse every week - hopefully we will see an improvement. We haven't kicked 100 points in a game under McCartney yet, but if we can do it this week, we should win.

Demons v Dogs

Hi All,Just felt the need to say how dissapointed l am with both the Demons and Dogs in promoting this weeks game. Granted both are currently woeful and winless this game was promoted preseason as the Jim Stynes game. It still is but you wouldnt know it. This game needs some serious pumping up to show the respect Jim Stynes had in the community and football world. The AFL should be pushing for families of any club to attend the game and show a tribute to the man.
Based on form the game would be lucky to get 20-25k. With the right promotion it could be 40-45k. l know our club wouldnt benefit financially but nothing worst than being at a empty ground.
Anyone agree or dont we deserve to have that many at one of our games ?
My family will be there to support the dogs and show our respect to the Stynes family. Please get along we need everyone on board at the moment

Re: Demons v Dogs

We all intend to go as a mark of respect to Jim Stynes as well as support the dogs. I am hoping a few neutrals will get along as well to swell the crowd up a bit.

Our fairweather supporters have jumped off already, so it is just us die hards left to fly the flag.

Re: Demons v Dogs

2 crap teams. Doesn't matter how you want to sugar coat it, you will never draw a good crowd.
.
Also a Sunday twilight game

The only way we will win by 58 points will be if the scores look like this.

Dogs 8-10-58
Dees 0- 0- 0

And i don't think we can kick more than 8 goals

How far away from playing is Panos ?

I like the look of him

Expect Tom Couch to be included for us this week

Lake being a goose will help but for the Demons to win we would need to stop making clangers

Oh and if we keep offering tea and scones in the third quarter then its game over again

The Stynes factor wont have an effect IMO

Melbourne and Footscray this week are playing for the CLANGER/TURNOVER CUP.

We will shit it in, what with Captain turnover and his loyal band of clangers, Melbourne wont get close to the same amount of **** ups, people think that Melbourne are the best of the teams for clangers/turnovers, but we will show the football world on the biggest stage of them all that no-one, and I mean no-one are better at shit-full clangers/turnovers than us!!!!!

Having said that we will win by 5 points after accidentally fluking a late goal.

Will be interesting to see how many show up for the Stynes Tribute. I would have expected maybe 23k at the game in normal circumstances due to how the teams are travelling at the minute, but the crowd will hopefully push past 30,000 as I would expect many Dees members to get there.

I don't think that it will have any bearing on the actual game though, factors such as these and milestone matches are always built up to have more of an influence then they actually do.

I would hope we get close to 30,000 that would be an ok turn out imo. Hope the dogs win this by a fair few goals but accpect Melbourne to be competetive for the first half. It is realy up to our midfield there are some quality experienced players in there and if they fire (Boydy, Griffen, Cooney, Dahlhaus and even Cross) should see us win the midfield battle.. If we win the Clanger Cup then I wouldnt be suprised if Melbourne got on top. Looks like we may be in for some decent draft picks this season haha

I will be attending the game cant wait

Re: Demons v Dogs

You presume Mrs Stynes wants a lot of promotion and media attention..

I would say the opposite, Sam's not the type to my knowledge. I think they're pretty satisfied with the way Jim left us, couldn't be thought of higher.
