Be struggling to teach zorko anything he hasn’t mastered already
Not wishing to get into any argument about it bit Zorks is/was a little guy and just about the only decent player in a crap team who got battered from pillar to post most weeks and taught himself to stand up to it.

Unfortunately every time he had a crack at someone it was out of frustration and retaliation for all to see.

He was never schooled or had role models in the art sneaky niggling/suck your opponent in and lob one if you can tactics of with Cotch was a master.

No knock on Cotch for that. Just sayin'. Zorks was the smallest guy on the ground and about the only one who refused to be bullied.

ive always said dayne zorko luke hodge trent cotchin would never engage in on-field thuggery

What was he, 22 years old when he took over as captain at the shambles that was Richmond back then? Reckon he might have some experience dealing with pressure and expectations.
Should note though for everyone, Cotchin’s appointment at our club is only on a part-time basis and he is DEFINITELY NOT moving over here to Brisbane to live (as of yet):

Atleast we have got him for game days in Melbourne.

What happens if the Storm and Lions are playing on the same afternoon in Melbourne... young Trent better choose us Lions.
It’s just a hop skip and jump from the MCG

Melbourne Storm can just have his younger brother instead on that day, Cotch Trentin :winkv1:

At what point do we finally address the lack of ruthlessness to put away teams. We get leads and then just wade the game out which allows teams to get back into it.

In the last five years the only time we have put a team away and played four quarters was Kangaroos a couple of years back.

We are too nice. But that’s what you get when you have a coach that isn’t ruthless. It means players aren’t ruthless.

Look at all premiership coaches. They played ruthless or coached ruthless. It’s no secret you need grunt to coach an AFL premiership - something we lack.

The media need to look into this and lay pressure on the club.

Fagan just doesn’t have a ruthless bone in his body. When he played, after he tackled somebody he probably helped them up, apologised for tackling them and asked if they were ok.

Guarantee you this won’t be the only game we let teams back into. There is no killer instinct in this team.

I think it's more tactics.

Our tactics are to protect what we have rather than to ever roll the dice. Even when it's close.

I think we could be ruthless enough if that was the mindset.

Feel like we’ve been over this ad nauseam and probably will until (if) Fages ever wins a flag with this group. Whether that’s right or not is probably up for debate.

I personally think if we don’t at least make it back to the GF this year, both the club and Fages might sit down together and see what’s best moving forward for all parties.

It wouldn’t surprise if we see a succession plan in place even at some stage.

Oh really?
McRae is a clone of Fagan.

Yeah, but it's someone new making the point. I like it.

If we want a harder edge bring Mark Williams back in some capacity. He seems to have been the brains behind the Demons success.

Port were in a similar position to what we are now, going into 2004.

I think our guys are hard enough if they were given the green light.

We need to learn from Macrae.

No one would've said they had a better list than us. But the belief they have has taken many of them from bog average players to good players.

It's not that hard to work out. It's been patently evident for 2 years.

Just had a bit of a dig into the stats from Friday night. Might be slightly out as I just counted based on DT Live stats:

Zorko - 5 possessions total across the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
Dunkley - 2 possessions in about 45 minutes of footy, from the halfway point of the 2nd to the end of the 3rd.
Bailey - 3 possessions in the 3rd quarter.
Clugga - Did not touch the football for around 48 minutes, from the 12 min mark of the 2nd till the end of the 3rd.

Now I understand it's hard to get the footy when the other team is on a roll, but these are experienced senior players. The best players we have at the club, and while we were getting demolished, they were unable to make any impact.

It seems that our effort to manage the game results in these guys going missing. Are they managing their energy levels? Making a conscious effort to save themselves for later in the game?

Edit: Can chuck in our co-captain Harris as well. Only 3 of his 14 possessions were in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

In fact while I'm on it ,I don't want to go all 3KZ , but our players seem overburdened with tactics .

We were only one kick away last year and a significant tactical manouvre is what did us in. Yet we still seem to be doubling down on it if last night is any guide.

There has been zero questioning from the media about the tactical aspects of the GF. And from what has come out of the club zero internally.

Of course I wholeheartedly accept what comes out of the club isn't what might be going on internally.

This is great (and also an indictment on the AFL that fantasy football stats are more useful than actual publicly available data about the game). Way better than Fages' analysis of "we lost it in the 3rd quarter". The malaise set in well before that. I'll expand on this in the review thread but by focusing on the stats as he did in the press conference, we are focusing on the symptoms rather than the root cause.

What tactical manoeuvre is this? Are you referring to playing a spare? I haven't had a good look at the review thread yet (I will) so if it's discussed there all good.
