If Clarko really wants to coach again, he'll do it happily for far less than that. If he needs to be 'bribed' to take on any job it's fair to say he's not that interested, in which case: avoid.
We saw how well that went for Malcom Blight didn't we (for memory)!

Depends on what period of Malcom Blight we are talking about in this situation ;)

I mean straight after his coaching stint at Geelong, he did coach Adelaide to two premierships in a row during that late 90s, while at St. Kilda he couldn’t even get one season of pure mediocrity before quitting in the early 2000s :p

Clarko has been studying in the US about how greed destroys club culture. No way he would jeopardise other areas of the club just to get a bigger pay packet.

I don't think Clarko would milk the soft cap when he can make up for it in sponsorship deals etc. Which might suggest from this isolated point a Melbourne club would be a better fit.

Not related to anything discussed previously, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about a bit today.

Indigenous and female staff are not included under the soft cap.

For example, Eddie Betts role at Geelong as a mentor, is paid outside of the soft cap.

The same applies to assistant coaches or health and well-being staff.

Someone like Bundy could work in a health and well-being role, focused on supporting our indigenous players. His salary would be paid outside the cap.

The same would apply to any female or indigenous assistant coaches. They are paid outside the salary cap.

We already have Anthony Corrie

have a tradie mate if the job he quoting on a job that could be difficult or the client seems annoying
he quotes double or triple. Most will say no too much, the ones that agree to gets what he calls danger money :)
Said for some clients 2-3 times the $ still not worth it :)

So Clarko to North might be more then say somewhere he really wants to be

Listening to Hodge speak about Clarko - Loved him as a coach but could see he could be difficult to deal with (at Management/Board level). Not sure if management is a strength at North at the moment.

I think that as well as the pay he asked for does point to Clarko not wanting to take the job. I can't blame him really, reputation wise he has a lot to lose getting back into coaching and would likely want to be completely confident in the clubs current management/board and direction.

Is there ant evidence out there that Clarkson is a thing other than we would like it to happen ?

Nothing other than some radio/twitter rumours and a couple of media mentions that we could be a fit.

Latest wave of convo has come from the notion he is going to take another year off, which would take us up to the time I believe our senior coaching position will be vacant (end of fagans next contract) if that happens, we are simply ‘in the race’ we don’t really need evidence.

The links to Fagan also are leading to it being discussed I think.

Up to this point though, all pie in the sky, the announcement he has signed at North that is likely to drop soon will put an end to it all 😂😂

I can imagine Clarko to the Lions happening, the only point that puts a kibosh on that line of thinking is the speculated Clarko asking price ie. 1.3 million, I can not see us paying that sort of money.

Tom Browne is the one reporting that figure though right? Which means for all intents and purposes he could be offering to coach pro bono

Plus at the end of the day that’s probably how much you’d have to pay him to coach North, might be a lesser asking price if he doesn’t have to go through the rebuild from the ground up

Why worry about dollars and pricing yourself out of a coaching job, just simply so no to Norf 😉

Gerard Whately talked with Clarkson at length at a recent function and Clarksons direct quote to him regarding the 1.3 million was “ Abosolute BS”. Just finished an overseas study tour, one of the topics was regarding how greed destroys culture in professional sport.
