Only time I felt miserable as a North supporter was a few years in the Scott era where it felt we were losing huge leads at the last minute every other week. A few times the reaction from the capitulation crashed BigFooty, I'm pretty sure.

That was torture, but it's not as bad now even though we're placing lower on the ladder.

How could it crash Big Footy?
North don’t have enough supporters

your team has won 15 flags. Please remind yourself. How many flags has Freo won?

End discussion right? How many GF losses have Freo experienced? Oh that's right, one!

Just another 26 seasons to go mate and then you're in the same boat.

Have you ever heard the term 'forever teasin but never pleasin'?

A north fan I know says these are great days to be a north supporter watching the start of a new and special team evolving

I was thinking about which team's supporters suffered the most misery.

I came up with a simple fan misery index.

Obviously the higher the score the more that teams fans have suffered.

Poor buggers supporting Melbourne FC have had a wretched old time.

AFL team fan's misery index by team supported:

Melbourne 57
Saints 30
Blues 25
North 22
Freo 21
Bombers 21
Lions 18
Port 17
Swans 15
Crows 12
Pies 9
GWS 6
Hawks 6
Bulldogs 5
Eagles 3
Geelong 3
Richmond 1

[Gold Coast NA]

57 for Melbourne? pfft! more like 157!!

Depends on your definition of misery. Mine is just missing out on the ultimate. For example, I don't mind a punt on the GG's - I'd sooner run last than get pipped on the line in a photo finish. That's misery!!

On that score, it has to be Collingwood.

1964 - lose GF to Melbourne by less than a goal in the dying minutes
1966 - lose GF to St.Kilda by 1 point
1970 - lead by 44 points at half time and lose to Carlton
1973 - finish on top, lose 2nd semi to Carlton. Lead Richmond by 45 points midway through 2nd quarter and lose. Out in straight sets
1977 - lead NM in GF by 27 points at 3/4 time only to draw. Lose the following week.
1979 - lead Carlton on a bog 5.6.36 to 0.7.7 at the 20 minute mark of the 2nd quarter. Go in at half time down! Lose by 5 points
1980 - smashed by Richmond
1981 - 21 points up at the 28 minute mark of the 3rd quarter of the GF. Lose by 20 points to Carlton.
1984 - smashed by over 100 points in prelim by Essendon
1990 - Glory!!!!!!
2002 - Unlucky. Nonetheless, lose in a close GF to Brisbane
2003 - Favourites and get belted in GF by Brisbane
2010 - Glory again!!!
2011 - Best side for most of the year only to get overtaken by Geelong at the business end
2018 - dispose of Richmond in prelim, kick the first 5 goals of the GF and lose to WCE

Beat that for misery.
(Apologies to Collingwood supporters)

I dont care how many Grand final losses you had.

Be fortunate your team has won 15 flags, let alone one.

Remind me of how many Premierships freo has won?

Umm, no, being so close yet so far for 8 losses in my time wears a bit thin. 77,79,80,81,02,03,11,18

Again, take into consideration, 'forever teasin but never pleasin'

are you happy to follow a team that has won no flags?

Not sure if serious or not. Would you be happy to follow a team that has had 42 GF appearances for a measly 15 flags? Would you be happy to come 2nd more often than not (way more)?

Considering that Freo have been in the competition 26 years there's not a big enough sample size.

still don't get it? Would you rather be a Freo supporter or Collingwood supporter in the last 25 years between 1996-2020?

Dees and Saints tied first, Freo second but with a fair gap in between imo. GWS/GC too young to really feel the long term burn that comes with supporting a rabble

Switch Freo with both the saints and demon's and you got it right.

Demon's and saints fans can look back at their flags. Freo can't.

I know the 2016 flag changes things and the club has never been healthier but we would still be high.

-String of preliminary losses - 85, 92, 97, 98, 08, 09, 10. Made finals from 15 of the last 29. Other clubs would have won a flag at lest one other time from these if not multiple.
-Some would ignore WB name.
-Almost merging in 1989.
-Pretty much in the wilderness much for the duration from 1955-1980.

Dunno mate, the drought between flags is still longer for dees/aints fans than dockers fans, lots of people don't even count VFL flags as AFL flags so we are in the same boat as you, just for longer :p

Main board GameDay thread. But funny you say that, as the North board has the 3rd (or 4th) most posts of any club board here.

Don't care how long your team's drought is.

Demon's have won 12 flags, saints got 1.

Go ask your self this question, would you support a team that has won 1-5 flags and have that 50-60 year drought or support a team that has been in the comp for 25-30 years and won no premierships?
