Had Carl's Jr. yesterday in Docklands. Coke tasted like they'd run out of whatever you add to the machine, and crappy kids running around while I waited 10+ minutes had me ready to forget about it. But it was the best fast food burger I've had in Australia in years. Superstar with Cheese I believe it was.

Shocked to be sitting here.

Perth is usually the last place to get new fast food franchises in Australia, we were the last capital city to get McDonalds in the early 80s, the first one in Sydney opened in the early 70s.

I had Carl's Jr when I was in the States, didn't think it was anything special, just another run of the mill American burger joint so we're not missing much.

Surely Perth would get a gig for chains ahead of Hobart and Darwin.

I didn't know they were here. Shall have to give it a go. All I know about Carl's Jr is Idiocracy references.

Now just waiting for "Gentleman's Lattes" to complete the set

I wasn't aware of that but I know we had Hungry Jacks here before McDonald's.

You'd think so but we usually get new franchises here after the other main capital cities, I guess it's a distance/logistics thing.

I seem to remember McDonalds being really late to Darwin, like early 90's. I also seem to remember there was a reason, like there was already a McDonald's Hamburgers registered up there. But that might've just been an old wives tale.

Is Barnacle Bills still a thing?

Want to think of an unholy alliance? Barnacle Bills franchise in Katherine NT.

Still big in Adelaide where it started. Didn't know it existed in other states?

Luckily we all have generic cafe restaurants on every corner so we don't miss the hit.

I've lived nearish a Dome, Coffee Club, McCafe, Jamaica Blue... they are always pumping. They can be 50m away from a small independent cafe that does the best coffee you'll ever have and still be popular. Some people like chains.

If the hipsters bring us nothing worthwhile ever again, thank them for creating a market for American BBQ/massive burgers.
It’s a shame they’re so overpriced everywhere though. Nothing like being in America and eating a great burger for under 10 dollars.

I dream that one day In N Out will expand and come to Australia. For the price I don’t think I’ve ever had a better burger.

In N Out isn't great.

Their chips taste like cardboard.
