Gee.. 192cm? He didnt get that off his dad. Recruit now!
I liked this bit...

“Connor kicked four goals as a forward against Glenelg in round four and backed it up with 23 disposals in an on-ball role against North Adelaide.”

So... A 192cm on-baller with skills that are starting to look just like his dear old dads!... yeah, we’d hate to have someone like that in the team..

Connor McLeod — son of Adelaide Crows great Andrew — is a late football bloomer who is beginning to show traits of his famous father at SANFL reserves level with Woodville-West Torrens.

“We're just sort of learning a little bit about Connor but he is improving at a rapid rate, which is really pleasing

“His training from night one in pre-season to now has improved significantly.’

His development has been stifled by a badly broken leg in just his second game for St Michael’s College while the following year he suffered a serious knee injury.

Last season, according to Andrew, was his first real crack at the sport and he won St Michael’s College’s First XVIII best and fairest award.

“In reality he’s only played one full season of footy because of injury, so from an exposure point of view he’s a long way behind a lot of guys his age and is still very much learning his craft,’’ Andrew said.

“But in the past six months he’s grown a lot, from being a bit small to 6ft 2in (192cm) and he’s got strong through his legs.

“He’s now trying to develop his upper body but he moves pretty well, is an elite kick and is a kid who is really enjoying being able to play after his injury battles.

“He plays a bit different to his dad but he’s got some talent. While he’s a good size he hasn’t physically developed yet, he’s still got little baby arms and a little baby face.’’

Are overagers allowed to play in the state carnival?

I gather we'd be watching him if he'd be interested in potentially nominating for the draft.

McLeod's not in the SA squad so don't see that happening, the squad was cut today from 52 to 42 and will be cut again to around 35 for the final Championship Squad. Hard to see him being a draft chance when you consider lads like Jarman and Edwards had far better credentials and only received rookie interest from us.

GWV Rebel Ruckman [Over Age] Lloyd Meek played for Vic Country at last year's Championships before being drafted by Fremantle with Pick 69.

Yes. It remains valid, regardless of age, until the first time he's drafted (by any AFL club).
So realistically ....Mcleod shouldn't nominate for the Draft, for another 2 years .....this would give him the best opportunity to develop

Draft nominations are valid for 3 years anyway. If he nominates this year, we could still pick him up in 2020.

That said, I think the Crows would prefer to have him on their rookie list and develop him themselves, provided they think he has the potential to develop into an AFL player. I make no judgement either way regarding his potential.

If he nominates for the draft & we don’t vomit to a rookie spot, then any club can choose him ...... unlikely, but possible

The club can save that small threat, by getting him to nominate in 2 years time... by then we’ll know how Jarman / Edwards has progressed, if at all

But in a strong draft, all parties would be foolish to nominate ....but also, it still doesn’t stop us from developing McLoud via the father/ son academy

An Edwards and Mcleod in the same draft period... interesting. Can't wait for the photos

I don't either but the reality is given his pathway it's an extremely longshot.

I appreciate where you're coming from, but I still disagree.

It's not impossible for a player to make it, after being drafted at age 20+. There are enough examples around to show that it's clearly possible. It is rare and unlikely though.

Also, leaving him in the SANFL means he can only get benefit from participating in our Academy system. Get him on our list, and we can develop him in a full-time environment. The benefits of this have to outweigh those of leaving him to develop on his own for 2 more years.

Yes, nominating now makes him vulnerable to being drafted by another club if Adelaide don't grab him as a F/S. The risk is really minimal. Firstly, I doubt they'd tell him to nominate if they weren't interested in signing him. Secondly, Adelaide's knowledge of him would be far greater than any other club's, by virtue of having him in our Academy system. If Adelaide doesn't think it's worth taking him with our last pick in the rookie draft, then it's highly unlikely that another club is going to gazump us.

Don't forget that rookie F/S players are selected with our last "live" selection in the RD. Yes, it's a strong draft, by there probably won't be much talent left by the time we get down to pick #140-150 (ND+RD picks).

I don't know whether or not his talent will ever justify him being drafted. I'd love to have the "Highlander" on the list, but that's just sentimentality talking. Either way, I suspect it's likely to be "now or never".
