As the off-season trudges along and we find ourselves desperately searching for any crumb of AFL content to satiate our cravings, I thought it might be time to kick-start something fun! You know, something to get the good ol’ brain juices flowing!

The concept is simple (and hopefully entertaining): predict the
Top 3 players in each position three years from now.
Think of it as your own personal crystal ball—no magic required! I’ll get the ball rolling, and I encourage everyone to chime in with your own predictions before you start throwing tomatoes at others!

Here’s my totally unbiased list:

Top 3 Rucks:

1. Tom De Koning
2. Tristan Xerri
3. Sam Draper

Top 3 Midfielders:
1. Nick Daicos
2. Harley Reid
3. Elijah Tsatas

Top 3 Key Forwards:
1. Sam Darcy
2. Jamarra Ugle-Hagan
3. Nate Caddy

Top 3 Small Forwards:
1. Nick Watson
2. Izak Rankine
3. Isaac Kako

2. Mac Andrew
3. Zach Reid

Top 3 General/Small/Rebounding Defenders:
1. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
2. Keidean Coleman

So dust off those crystal balls, or just rely on your footballing instincts and a touch of bias, Who knows, in three years we might all be marveling at your prophetic brilliance (or mocking you, but hey, it’s all in good fun)!

Is it mandatory to have someone from your own team as the third selection?

Not sure why you've skewed as young as you have if we are only talking about 3 years?

3 years isn't that long. Many of the top players now will be top players then. Your list feels a bit more like 5+ years time (+ Essendon player in 3rd).

For example 3 years ago ('22), Patrick Cripps won the Brownlow from Lachie Neale and Touk Miller. These guys are still the elite (with Cripps winning again last year and Neale the year before). Similarly, 3 years ago Charlie Curnow won the Coleman and he'd be one of the favourites to do so again this year. The AA team from 3 years ago tells the same story - it contains many of the players that you'd expect to see in this year's AA team. New or very recent draftees this year are very unikely to be the best players in the comp in 3 years time. Look at last season's AA team - the average age is about 30. Only 2 players (Gulden and Daicos) would have been drafted in the last 3 years, with most in the 8-10+ year range.
