Not sure why the AFL asked the Clubs (coaches) about 5 on the bench if they did not intend bringing it in this year.

Be interesting to see the video of the AFL's interpretation of tackles/smothers/striking (Dusty & Rayner fend offs)
Umpires and fans will be at a loss once again.
They are trying to protect the head which is what their insurance company would be telling them to do.
Interpretation will again be the issue for umpires and fans alike.

Once again i will mention the Brownlow should be open for all players irrespective of a suspension.
You get a week for pretty much nothing these days.
Happy for the tribunal to hand out the week so players will learn. But a suspension should not coat a player the Brownlow.
.........................
The Commission also opted to stick with four interchange players and a single substitute for 2024, despite a push from coaches to make it five interchange players.

Yep, another year, another more complicated set of rules, making umpiring, playing, tribunalling, commentating and even spectating even more difficult.

While the low hanging fruit I bang on about all the time which will make the game easier to umpire and better to watch gets summarily ignored... 🤷

League codifies GF hosting rights rules for AFLW comp

The AFL today confirmed the hosting rights rules for the AFLW and AFL competitions

Nice subheading. Read the article but didn't see it written that the AFL GF will be played at MCG for eternity (unless there is pandemic).

Once again, an opponent gets in trouble in relation to a game against us. First Crisp, now Joel Smith.

Lions dirty tricks unit on fire.

Don’t forget dusty.

Dees season is going to be very interesting. If they have any issues in terms of form or injury and implode a bit onfield it is all going to snowball very quickly. I’ve got a few bags of popcorn ready in anticipation.

Not sure on all the details but this sounds like they were partaking on the night before games and Smith's partner was giving birth. Sounds like a massive mess there
I wonder what the potential is for players from other clubs being involved. I have no idea as to Smith's living arrangements but I have heard of Melbourne-based players living with players from other Melbourne-based clubs.

Can't believe I let the 15th anniversary of this momentous occasion slip by without recognition.

I may regret asking ... what happened there on 24/02/2009 that I seem to have conveniently blanked from my memory (for possibly good reason)

Found a bog-average photo featuring Jack Payne AND Jackson Paine. See, they are different people.

To the impact Josh Dunkley has made in just one season as a Lion: "He is the player most like Luke Hodge I have come across, in terms of his personality. He is such a team man, he will do whatever he has to do for the team to win. He is forthright and he leads by example on the field, which is a lot of what Luke does. They're not exactly the same personalities but they are very similar. I love them both and I can't believe how fortunate we are to have Dunkley come and play for us.

"The killer for us was Collingwood red-time goals, and that was never an issue for us in the season, and there's the game, actually more than the game. We have looked at it and been honest about it, and in a funny sort of way we are proud of ourselves."

I like a lot of this article but this line stands out to me. We have been complaining about re-time goals for for multiple years and it was a big discussion point all year about sending forwards back and it failing

That really beats me.

Delusion or just being crafty ?
