Lacked imagination in coaches box today. Skills were poor, but I thought we stuck to plan A for way too long. Undermanned of course, especially forward. Eventually we tried a few things like Cordy forward and Russel went down there and impacted. But it was too late for mine. Minson seems never to go forward, why? Who knows.

Should be a stronger team next week. Think the coaches need to lift too.

Some points from attending the match

• We probably had more VFL listed players than any other game this season, more than half the team. Not only were Morris/Murph/Boyd rested, players like Campbell and Boyd didn't play (who knows why Boyd didn't play). Throw in injuries to Stevens, McLean, Libba and C. Smith who are best 22 players, and then this season's VFL stalwarts in Prudden, R. Smith and Hrovat are all injured, the depth of our VFL list was exposed deep. This meant that players who are often among our best at VFL level, such as Daniel (last week) and Goodes were called up to play the AFL
• And from the above, it was clear that our VFL players were just that slight level below required in what was effectively an AFL skilled game or an AFL intensity game. Not blaming any one player or not saying it's their fault, they're VFL listed players and not AFL listed players for a reason, but their skills and vision were just that class below
• Jong's carrying an injury, had wrapping around his knee and winced every time he had to put weight on it, such as when he was on his hands and knees getting up. Still played a decent game, not dominant, but one of the better players in the team.
• Dale wasn't quite our best player as he didn't win a heap of the ball or have major influence forward of center but his skills around the ground looked a class above
• Talia and Cordy looked okay in key defence. Despite the fact that the ball was down there a lot they were actually not involved in the play that ofen. Cordy went forward late in the match and had an influence without being dominant. Cordy at times is more worreid about his man rather than the ball in defence, but that will come with experience, whilst Talia defending his man well, took him out of the contest, didn't really do any Talia-isms like spoil out own blokes or kick it out of bounds but at the same time had a pretty quiet game.
• Hamilton will be a good player in time (great vision and skills) but even this level of footy is a bit too physical and fast-paced for him.
• Minson did a typical Minson VFL level game where he looked disinterested but at the same time was still a class above and won the ruck battle
• We actually didn't get dominated at the stoppages, rather, it was the ball movement and around-the-ground pressure that was the difference. It was amazing how often we dropped marks and missed targets with kicks, (more oftehn then not the VFL-listed players being the culprits). At times with some of our smallers players we actually looked a bit quicker than them but there was no opportunity for us to exploit it.
• Greenwood still can't kick and I have no idea how he actually lasted 3 years as an AFL-listed player.
• We can be thankful for Prismall and Kelly who actually were decent - without players like Hrovat and Goodes in the team both played as inside mids and kept us from being smashed.
• Fuller's not up to it. Three things stick out - got beat in a really basic one-on-one in the goalsqure when he was isolated at full back, stepped on the line in a kick-out that cost us a goal, and missed a target in a 10m kick that he could have handballed that also cost us a goal.
• Pearce had a quiet game, actually didn't really notice him much out there.
• Darley was good with his kicking but again, could have found more of it. Would have liked to see him push up to the wing and half-forward because it was our VFL listed players who were playing in those positions who kept butchering the ball kicking it inside 50 and hitting targets.
