Fox Footy co-host Mark Robinson looks set to leave AFL 360 after 14 years in the hot seat

I’ve always liked him he’s not a cliche robot journalist like most others, he’s always seemed genuine. Not afraid to ask tough questions which I think is what makes a good journo and the way he asks them is like he’s just chatting with people at a bar, so I found he got more interesting responses out of players and coaches that didn’t seem like typical media-trained answers. I like his style and always thought he and Whateley had good chemistry on 360

Nooo. He’s the same kind of incoherent as the other bozos but the effects of the alcohol make it entertaining.

I’d rather have a journo than a past player. Someone who is neutral and independent. Past players are often protective of their own colleagues etc. We already have so many X players on shows and someone like Jake Niall would be terrific- though Foxtel network is aligned with Herald SUN

The show will go downhill fast without Robbo.

People will quickly get bored of Gerard's pompousness without there being a point of difference, other than some bland fill-in like Jordan Lewis or Jack Reiwoldt who toes the line.

Agree, I thought the whole point of 360 was it was hosted by journos and there view on the game and news.

Replacing him with an ex player and it won't be much different to On the Couch.

Not a popular opinion but I don’t mind Robbo.

Obviously a lover of the game and just a grub who loved a dart and a drink who will watch two flies kicking a ball between them if it says Sherrin on the side of it.

You are not on your own here.

Mark Robinson cops a lot of flack around here but I reckon he is one of the best journos in the business. Sure, he wears his heart on his sleeve because he is passionate about the game but he is not afraid to speak up and say what many others won't. Better still, he is not afraid to give a whack to anyone in the game when it is warranted.

IMO, that shows credibility & integrity in the job, unbiased standards many of the non-newspaper journos refuse to adhere to.

As for 360, the reason why I found it worthwhile viewing is because it is hosted by two journos instead of past players. This means that they speak more openly and don't wear the old club scarf when discussing prickly issues involving their old club (e.g. Hodge & Lewis in the Hinkley V Ginnivan brouhaha).

If Fox Footy really want this show to continue as the flagship of their station, then it is imperative that they replace Robinson (if he does retire) with another journo and not another ex-player.

Spot on !!

Time for my favorite gif again…

Might just make 360 watchable again. Let’s see who they get to replace him.

David King. Need someone that isn't afraid to be honest and even offend.

Feel like Dunstall has too many mates in the industry for him to be that.

Cornes would be ideal if it weren't for his shiny new Ch7 contract.

King & Whateley have pretty good chemistry.

I like King’s ability to be honest - it’s one thing I will say for him, he won’t shy away from what he thinks, but the amount of times he puts his foot in his mouth, for a supposed expert, is utterly mindblowing.

In the space of roughly 8 weeks this season, he unequivocally called for the Dogs to literally blow the place up and start from scratch and basically get rid of everyone except Bontempelli, Darcy and JUH and go into full rebuild mode, to saying they were the dominant team in the comp and rightful flag favourites.

Someone as rusted on to making black and white calls and nailing his colours to the mast based on a result in 4 quarters of footy here and there shouldn’t probably be running a flagship program.

One thing about Robbo’s incoherence, he wasn’t prone to saying that a team had to get rid of a coach after an insipid performance or that so and so was the best player in the game after one good match. He’d be more ‘they’ve got a bit of a problem at the moment’ or ‘gee I love watching this bloke, how good is he.’

well even News Crop is reporting it now so HOLD THE PHONE

He won’t be lost to the small screen, however, it’s understood Robinson has been offered several roles with Fox Footy in the future.
Literally the last line of their article, what a twist

Yep, well said. Hard to argue with any of that.

Will be interesting if they go with an 'analyst' type like a King or Montagna or if they go with another senior journo like a Jon Ralph, Damien Barrett or a Sam McClure.

I'm no fan of McClure but i can see TV producers liking him for a role like that given how opinionated & polarising he is. As a TV guys once said to me "people tune into to watch people they hate"

Edit: NewsCorp owns Fox Footy & Herald Sun. McClure employed Ch.9 (which owns the rival newspaper The Age) so he would have to severe current ties completely.
