Franks for the memories. Things don't always go well with COLA

Buddy is definitely overrated for the 1+million price tag as a player in my opinion, he still can't mark over he's head and still can't kick straight, and the Hawks should not be sweating on re-signing him.
His biggest asset has always been the combination of size and athleticism. However as he ages there are more tall defenders who can compete adequately at ground level and he seems incapable of improving his marking to make up for this deficiency.....

Not sure about his hammy, but based on his last pressie, he is sounding a bit tight...
I always found Buddy to be nervous and coy with interviews. Sounded like he had wet the whistle a bit before going on. Also they had promoted him as in studio then last minute he was on the phone.
I am less convinced after his performances yesterday that he will stay.

Who here would be willing to give him the captaincy if it guaranteed him staying?

No way.Not acting like a very good leader is he?9 year vet loves the club and everyone there but can't bring himself to commit.

Salary cap space is looking good and probably why everyone else is getting their contracts sewn up cos Buddy is gone(probably)

I really want him to stay, but not on that proviso. But it won't be necessary!! I think he'll consider the offers, realise that he just can't play against his mates in brown and gold, and will re-sign....hopefully before we go on and win the GF :)

Buddy's statement about his love for Hawthorn yesterday was just to deflect attention. Do you ever see him kissing his Hawk jumper after a goal, like Roughy or Cyril? He said he has been with the Hawks and Clarko for nearly 9 years - interpretation is: he is ready for a change.
He is in discussion with a Sydney team...and its not GWS, its the Swans (has been for months). He has to wait until season end for all the final negotiations to fall into place, with Swans list etc. He wants to move to Sydney, but not GWS.

That was mentioned on SEN a week or so ago - do you have a separate source? I just can't see it happening...which of course doesn't mean it won't happen....but I really hope you're way off the mark!! (no offence intended ;) ).

I wouldn't read too much into the lack of jumper kissing - I can't recall Hodgey kissing his (could be wrong). It's one of those things that is great when spontaneous, but shouldn't be expected of players.

I have a suspicion we could get two players who are 60% as good as bud for 90% of the cost, meaning a 150 % better outcome with a 50% chance both players are out injured

Wou cant put so much resource into one player unless you have a safety net like gws or gcs

I heard the talk about a Buddy move to Sydney Swans back in May from a Hawk friend, not SEN. I know the Swans have Tippett, but with Goodes to veterans salary cap list, and cost of living allowance (COLA), anything is possible with the Swans. Good to hear that the media (SEN) has now raised it as a possibilty. Put some heat on the Swans and Buddy's management. But as a fan of the Hawks and Buddy, I hope he stays.

There is no way we could afford him , wont happen

No way.

Not Hawthorn.

No way would we offer, and neither would Buddy ask.

The 3 things not considered here though are:

- Buddy is a marketing and promotional phenomena from which we benefit immeasurably. This is something that simply cannot to be underestimated and is arguably more important than even winning grand finals in the short term (as crazy as that sounds). Our growth because of Buddy is immense and the support he drums up for the club literally on his ow has the capacity to take us into the echelon of Collingwood Essendon in the foreseeable future. What we would we give to enter the MCG to a Collingwood-esque crowd +80,000 of Hawthorn supporters week in week out?
- We are in the premiership window with him. Why mess with the equation?
- Having Buddy Franklin as a one club Hawthorn man (even after retirement) is important and will mean a lot to him and to us when it comes to pass. If he is moved on this will be diluted and this once in a generation player will be, like Darren Jarman, only partly outs.

I wouldn't give Buddy up for anything.

Imagine the shit storm if Sydney were to get him!

- Very rarely missing the 8 since their previous premiership (just the once I believe)
- Winning the 2012 flag and still being able to spend a ridiculous amount on getting a key forward in Kurt Tippet
- Likely finish top 4 again this season
- Possibly go back-to-back but will likely at least make a preliminary final

After all that to then be able to come out and throw a truck load of cash at Buddy would surely have to be the end of the CoLA for them.

The only positive of him going to Sydney is that we'd likely be able to match that offer so it will force a trade if he really wants to move. We can get JPK back and maybe take that Tom Mitchell fella too (Sydney have made it clear that father-son players are fair game after all)...

But the COLA is necessary!

Complete horseshit.
