Franks for the memories. Things don't always go well with COLA

Either way, the competition (and not just us) is not taking it too well.

The "competition" can't believe Sydney could have the room .... The tippet piece last year looked like the victorian chance to take a bash at the COLA but this .... it's now more than that. You are better off without him, Buddy leaving could be the piece that extends your premiership window or at the least prevents you from falling to far when Hodgey, Sewell, Mitchell etc retire around the same time. An extra million in your cap now might be exactly what your aging (not to old yet) midfield needs to keep it where it is.

Exactly, Minerboy.

I am gutted that Buddy's going, and as others have already said, it would've been hard enough to see him in a GWS outfit - but you understand that he went for the money, and to promote the game etc. To see him at Sydney due to their inflated cap is galling - and the feeling just gets worse once you realise that he went hunting for the move moments after our devastating loss to them in 2012.

I must admit, the only thing about the GWS deal that I couldn't fathom was the lack of premiership contention...I just couldn't imagine a player like Franklin accepting that he wouldn't be part of another premiership team, and I mistakenly assumed that his tears after the GF win were the realisation that this was the last time he'd be doing it. So, for that reason alone, I'm not surprised it's Sydney he's going to instead...it certainly makes more sense for him as a player.

But damn, it hurts. And it hurts WAY more than GWS.

Whether you think he's had a good season, or a bad season...he's always going to give opposition coaches a headache when he lines up. For all of the rumours, I always thought the real reason we never announced if he had a long term injury was because we liked to make coaches have to prepare for the eventuality of him being in the squad. And sure, we can win without him, but as Minerboy has said - it just means that everyone moves up a notch...now Roughy doesn't have the luxury of taking the 2nd defender; he takes the star defender. Whether Buddy was on form or not, he was valuable because other teams had to put their best player on him, because even in a rotten match, he was capable of freakish acts that could spin the game and they just couldn't risk him running loose.

I think we've got a good approach going forward, and it made me grin when Sheils took that mark in the fifty...it works because it's unexpected - but it also only worked because the defenders were terrified of Roughy, Buddy, Cyril or Breust running rampant, so their attention was diverted away from our midfielders (or even Lake!) creating a lead in the fifty...and losing some star power will only serve to increase the attention on other players.

Sorry for intruding guys but I hate the way this is going down if Buddy wants to go to us then I'd prefer if we offered him the same contract as you and handed over Mumford,Reid & pick 14 both clubs happy and we move on.

The reason the HFC have been quiet about this is that here is much more to play out. At the end of the day, the HFC will receive an acceptable deal whether that be trade or compensation to appease the aggrieved.

Right now, this story is selling papers and keeping footy in the spotlight.

Unfortunately, we are all being treated like sheep

I would feel short changed if they offer us 1 or both of those players......

fixed for you

It's interesting thought cause he's also Clarko's manager and Clarko is just about to negotiate another contract. The extra money Pickers would make from shipping Buddy up North would be gone if Clarko dumps him in return.

I think you've missed that Pickering has also said Clarko won't go to West Coast on a multi million dollar deal. Sound familiar? It's not difficult to join the dots and see who will be coaching WC in 2015.

I would rather not hear anything from the club that is rash and very short sighted. They will be focusing on securing the best deal for the club, and continue planning for premiership success.

I have full faith in the club and board, so I am not worried about this. I have a feeling we will still walk away smiling, but if we somehow do get r*ped by the AFL and the Swans then questions have to be asked. Just take a breather for a week or so, the rumors and gossip are going to be horrendous.

One thing i dont understand, buddy has been desperate to move to sydney, but the swans still needed to maje the most risky offer in order to get him. This situation is very fishy! The bloke should of asked for a trade last year when he choose the swans .

Do you honestly think that A) the Hawks would have traded to strengthen one of their closest rivals who had just beaten them in the GF and B) Swans would be in possession of anything that would have gotten the deal done?

Unfortunately you will get pounded and not walk away very comfortably. I think your best bet is to try and turn the compo pick into two later picks. That said picks 19 & 20 are still handy. It will hurt that the pies get a better pick for that hack Thomas than you guys do for Lance.

Well enjoy pick 19 then
Do you think that because we've told you to go **** yourself you now have the ability to block any trade that might occur between our clubs for Franklin? Piss off mate, what do you expect to hear when you come on our board throwing up absolute bullshit. Two players who would be fringe for you plus a slight upgrade on our draft pick? I can't even...

'Hawthorn, your star player wants to leave and come to us, and because of expansion clubs we can't afford to give him an amazing contract, so how would you feel about trading for him now so only don't lose him on a free in 12 months?'

Oh yeah, we definitely wouldn't have given that any thought. We have 4 top class midfielders retiring in 2-4 years and Sydney have an abundance of midfield talent. It would have been as simple as offering us Kennedy and a first round draft pick to get it done. What do you mean they don't possess anything to get the deal done?

I don't want him I was just trying to even it up a bit, go and cry over your spilt milk

If Lance Franklin was your player, and at age 26 asked for a trade to a rival, would you be happy if they offered you pick 14, Mumford and Reid, both of who are coming off piss poor seasons? Just because it's slightly better than what we will likely get (19 and two free agents with a combined wage of a million) it doesn't mean you are making it even.
