Ease down kid, no need to get angry.

Yes, he played a selfless role, but so did every other player on the list, why do you think the Hawks won the flag? Fact is, he didn't like it but that doesn't mean he wasn't going to do it. Would look stupid if you are the only team not doing the team thing.

I'm sure he respects his teammates, and still did it for them but at the end of the day he wants his own success. His taking a pay cut to go to Sydney.

This should send alarm bells that this had been building over a few years.

You really think he woke up post grand final in 2012 and suddenly thought, 'you know what Hawthorn and Melbourne isn't for me anymore'.

He wanted to leave Hawthorn long ago, why do you think his mate Wellingham was hopeful.

Fact is that what happened when he was injured during the 6 weeks of 2012, proved in his mind that he wanted to get out of Melbourne.

Don't re-write history. I hate that this has happened on this board. The bloke averaged 20 possesions and the most goals per game in 2013. He dominated attack until 2012. He has done everything the club has asked him to do. I love the bloke he is my favourite player of all time surpassing Shane Crawford and Jason Dunstall, every game was un-missable when Buddy played, the amount of times i went home shaking my head at something he had done during the week makes up for the few tears i had yesterday.

Difference between Buddy and Dunstall/Crawford, the latter two remained loyal. Nobody is questioning his ability on the football field, just his integrity off it.

Whatever, I'll leave you at that.

So.. remember back at the start of the year when there was bad blood between Alistair and Lance in the USA..
I could imagine Clarko hearing Buddy had talked to the Swans and then cracking it, jumping on a plane and flying to the USA to confront him. Plausable?
My understanding is that it happened in reverse order- Clarko confronted him and then Pickering contacted the swans.

He's a lying dog. If he loved the club as much as he portrayed he would have done the honourable thing last year and asked for a trade instead of leaving us bent over.

**** YOU JUDDY FRANKLIN

Oconnor is in no mans land and without a club due to his association with the bungy boys and its ringleader buddy - he is currently in Perth hoping to get a gig with western force

Just shows how shit of a bloke he is. He is a very good rugby player, still young and has a contract with Australian Rugby Union.

Yet no Super Rugby teams want a bar of him. He is a cancer on the culture of any team, and obviously a rubbish influence on Buddy.

How can Buddy look all those Hawthorn fans with number 23 on their back in the face? He won't. All these people that have purchased merchandise with him on it, what has this move said to them. I am going to collect up all my merchandise with him on it and put it into a plastic bag. It doesn't deserve to be near my Hawthorn merchandise. We will have to find a new player to wear the number 23, every Hawthorn Premiership team has had someone wearing number 23.

What I don't like is the way that it has been done - with him (or at least his management acting on his behalf) approaching $hitney just after we'd lost a GF to them. Plus the fact that we've been blatantly lied to all season with him saying he'll make up his mind at the end of the year!
FWIW, I hope the AFL veto it, and say to $hitney that they have to substantially review the offer or it won't go ahead.

I find it laughable that AFl 360 kept going on about "Poor GWS". They have Patton, Cameron and now probably Boyd, combine that with their midfield depth, their high draft picks, their COLA, extra salary cap space. They'll be fine.

Buddy has it + and - points -

On the plus -
  • Buddy has been great for the Hawks and provided plenty of AMAZING moments for us fans and I will always be thankful for that.
  • He will take up considerable cap space for the Swans.
  • He is a BIG risk for the Swans both on and off the field.
  • Coupled with Tippett, he may start to change the feeling within Sydney about what their current stars are perceived to be worth to the club itself.
  • He IS past his best. They might get 2 good seasons from him, maybe 3. He can't mark above his head anymore and has not been near his best since that time.
  • He will draw HUGE attention to the COLA situation, which may drive the AFL to do something.. We can only hope.
  • He frees up 1.1 Mil in the cap and with Ozzie and Ellis likely gone and Goo a 50/50 shot, we will probably have 1.6 - 1.8 mil to throw around.
  • It might be like when Youngy left last year we said to Smith, Savage and Hill that the best performer will be given games. We saw Smithy and Hill stand up. Maybe that will happen with Spang and Grimley this year.
On the negative
  • Not happy that he went to the Swans, after they beat us in the GF, and specified them. I can see why, but I am not happy.
  • Not happy with getting pick 20 for Buddy. Ridiculous, and Buddy seemed to be happy to leave us in the lurch with the whole thing.
  • Strengthens the Swans no end. Whilst he is past his best, he still kicks 60 odd goals a year and is a nightmare match up.

FWIW I think Buddy was devastated by the loss to the swans in the GF - he tried his guts out and along with Sewell almost got us there. Apart from inaccurate kicking (which he worked on over the off season) I can't fault him on that front. The disappointing aspect for me is that he seems to have taken a very self-serving approach after the GF loss that is now seeing the club he has loved get screwed over.
