Franks for the memories. Things don't always go well with COLA

Vince McMahon needs to take over the AFL for next season - he would guarantee a Hawthorn vs Sydney Grand Final.

Vlad tries his best, but he just isn't in the same league. Too much corruption on Vlad's part preventing him from seeing the overall picture, methinks...

Two pricks sit behind a desk. One is a smarmy Geelong prick, the other a fat Essendon prick.

The smarmy Geelong prick says to the fat Essendon prick, 'This is massive. What do you make of all this?'

The fat Essendon prick says, 'Well, this is massive, you're right. It was a brazen move by the Swans but good on 'em.'

The smarmy Geelong prick then says, 'Yep, definitely. This is a kick in the guts to GWS though.'

The fat Essendon prick says, 'Yep, definitely. It's gotta hurt them.'

The smarmy Geelong prick says, 'Shall we talk about the consequences for Hawthorn here?'

The fat Essendon prick says, 'Good one.'

The smarmy Geelong prick says, 'Thanks. Wanna have sex on the desk?'

Pathetic form from Gerard and Robbo on AFL360 last night. I know I shouldn't waste energy on this pair, but to not lend time to the ramifications for Hawthorn (and their supporter base) was poor I felt.

I guess the last thing buddy wanted is to be the face of a club, which is one of the reasons he wanted out of melbourne in the first place.

What, and you don't think he will be when he goes to Sydney.
Spare me...
His face will be all over EVERYTHING.

Sydswans 0512, I understand where you're coming from but it's not just about the Hawks improving their pathetic 'compensation'. The Swans best hope of retaining the COLA is to reach a reasonable deal with the Hawks (even though they don't have to).

An insulting offer like the one made to Adelaide last year for Tippett won't cut it as the anger has escalated this time. This is as much a PR exercise as anything now.

They'll have to give up some quality; unfortunately I recognise that may include Sausages. :(

Of course, if they think the COLA's gone regardless, all bets would be off.

So.. remember back at the start of the year when there was bad blood between Alistair and Lance in the USA..
I could imagine Clarko hearing Buddy had talked to the Swans and then cracking it, jumping on a plane and flying to the USA to confront him. Plausable?

The AFL must intervene here for the good of the game. Otherwise, clubs with cash will be offering ridiculous contracts to every star player who comes off contract. After the Essendope scandal you'd think the AFL would want to appease the other clubs and the fans on this issue. There is also the matter of GWS getting screwed in this as well which Vlad will not take lying down. He wanted Franklin there and Vlad usually gets what we wants.

I can accept Sydney offering Franklin a 5 year playing deal but they should not be able to tack on an extra 4 years for a non-playing role as part of the offer. If theybwant him and he wants to go then take him. But we should match the offer and force them to give us Parker as well as Reid or Mumford who we can then on-trade to GWS for Adams. We need to restock our midfield and we must play hardball with these cheating ****ing snakes. Let's not forget how they screwed us in the O'Keefe trade. Franklin is a restricted free agent and we hold some power here.

If one good thing comes from this it will be that the COLA appears to be on the way out so at least the ****ing dogs from the Harbour City wont be able to lure players as easily or rip other teams in trades. Hopefully Sydney might also get a draw reflective of the fact that they have rattled the cage of the AFL.

Looking forward to spike "vitamin c" mcveighs take on SEN now that he is a swan stooge

He was also annoyed he wasn't the source of every single attack anymore. Like a petulant kid. Even Rioli showed more maturity at a younger age.

I'm sure his RL mates told him if he was playing somewhere else he'd be kicking 100 goals a year no problem. Hawthorn is the problem. That's why he left.

It's funny..... I was mulling over the same scenario this morning.... I reckon it is plausable.

Get ****ed mate. Speak to every single player at Hawthorn and they will tell you he willingly played a selfless game this whole year. He was not petulant the biggest superstar in our game played a completely selfless year, added another string to his bow.

COLA Should have been out years ago, especially when the AFL knew FA was coming in. You can't give a club an extra mil in the cap and not expect that club to manipulate their position to snare big name players. They were set up from the start to be at the best advantage of FA.

We need to step back a bit though and realise this changes nothing. The AFL still need Sydney to be lucrative, successful , the all conquering AFL champions to keep the broadcasters happy and NOTHING will change that point whilst our sport is pandering to the corporate $$$$

Ease down kid, no need to get angry.

Yes, he played a selfless role, but so did every other player on the list, why do you think the Hawks won the flag? Fact is, he didn't like it but that doesn't mean he wasn't going to do it. Would look stupid if you are the only one not doing the team thing.

I'm sure he respects his teammates, and still did it for them but at the end of the day he wants his own success. His taking a pay cut to go to Sydney.

or.... was he not the source of every single attack anymore because Clarko knew he was going and we had to retool for the future?

This should send alarm bells that this had been building over a few years.

You really think he woke up post grand final in 2012 and suddenly thought, 'you know what Hawthorn and Melbourne isn't for me anymore'.

He wanted to leave Hawthorn long ago, why do you think his mate Wellingham was hopeful.

I think you've missed that Pickering has also said Clarko won't go to West Coast on a multi million dollar deal. Sound familiar? It's not difficult to join the dots and see who will be coaching WC in 2015.
Well, I think if HFC offer Clarko a contract extension and Clarko is adamant about waiting till the end of 2014 before deciding, then 'Horse' Longmire will be justifiably worried.

Thought I would check out the Swans financial situation as they must be rolling in dough to be able to afford such money.http://www.sydneyswans.com.au
http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/2012-12-18/swans-2012-financial-results

So they made a cool $100,000 profit coming off years of losses. But look at their 'fringe' benefits. And guess who is paying for all this - Hawthorn and all other clubs who make a real profit.

Now, look at Brisbane

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/com...ch-as-afl-props-up-rivals-20131001-2uqns.html.

I am all for expansion but it is really being paid for by the successful, crowd pulling Melbourne clubs. So, the master boofhead says this is where the TV rights money goes and has nothing to do with other clubs paying towards the costs. OK boofhead, take Hawthorn, Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond, Essendon and maybe Geelong out of the competition and your TV rights deal would be worth a bent 10 cent piece that even the old one armed bandits would not accept as legal tender.

To me this makes a bit more sense now.

I don't think the "get out of the media" line is really what this is about. He's spent the last year thrust in the limelight, and they're going to follow him up to Sydney now. If he'd just signed on with Hawthorn, he'd have none of these issues. Apparently he's major back-page news in Sydney right now (in NRL grand final week).

I think the reason he's going is due to having fallen out with Clarko. His behaviour all year makes sense in light of this. It seems like an act of revenge, and that he's been brooding all year.

We don't know what has occurred to bring Buddy to his decision. Anyone who has grievances with their employer can accept that he may have some legitimate grievances. I think his conduct has been pretty poor, but who knows what the trigger has been for this? Maybe if we heard Buddy's side we'd be more forgiving.

I caught part of the interview with Ireland this morning. Did I hear him say that part of their offer was not coming out of their salary cap, but out of their Marketing Cap?? Did I hear right??

  • Do we have a marketing cap that can be paid to players?
  • Do we have to match that non football component?
  • Is this what the AFL are wanting to look at?
The one time I would love Vlad to get his back up and put a stop to this for no other reason than they have pissed him off.

Let's hope that Clarko finds himself a new manager before then.
There is a difference in that Clarko actually came out and said he wasn't going anywhere in the near future and Franklin & Pickering bullshitted the entire season..

plus $1,000,000.00

Fcuk off

This is still the key. Mumford might be ok but he never seems fit. Reid we do not want or need. Lets go shopping with the $1m and get some real quality - could be $1.5m plus with a few player movements (Guerra?, Osborne, Ellis). Actually helping Sydney fix their salary cap issues does not help the Hawks one bit, Reid on 5 years for $400k per year , Sydney can have that thanks.

Apparently the Buddy contract is heavily backloaded so they can pay Tippett first. Good luck with that Swans. This whole thing would make absolutely no sense at all until you factor in that the AFL will save their arses in 5 years time from the hole they are putting themselves in.

Heard the same rumour from my old man at the beginning of the year, don't know how much it has been discussed here as I've avoided this thread like the plague all season.

Would I be correct in saying that if Hawthorn match Sydney's (absurd) offer, that that would be legally binding? If so I think we should just cut our losses and let him go, the risk of him accepting that deal with us is too high: no player is worth that much of the salary cap.
