not any more.. this is the decade of dominance. The eagles will get that weather from now on. We are going to be so good that even the umps will give us the rub of the green... ok, maybe that is too optimistic.
We'll be so good, that umps will become irrelevant.

Not expecting much from this game anymore. Half the side will likely be struggling to be fully focused. Even if it is just a couple of players off their game, that could throw the whole side out.

Maybe if we are somehow in it at quarter time, then the players heads will be in the game by that point and we have a chance. But I fear the game will be lost in the first quarter.

We are in this up to our eyeballs. Sydney may be top of the ladder, but away from the SCG, they have only beat Collingwood, Richmond, Eagles and Hawthorn. They have beat a few good teams at the SCG, but at Optus we really should knock them off - the only issue is really our perennial Achilles - rain (Other than Darcy being out)

Let's give them a good old Dockering !!

I was already sad I couldn't go tonight because I have the chilli cough, but now feel sadder because I can't be there to support the boys.

Getting pretty sick of this repeated comment that it's ok if they're down tbh. A win tonight sets up the whole season. We can't be letting home games slip because of external factors. Find a way to turn the emotion into fuel and go out fired up.

Remember that awful time just after it was announced Essendon were huge drug cheats that they came over and beat us? Let’s try and do something like that to Sydney.

What a day, WHAT A DAY!!

Kissed the wife, played with the little one's and a huge day of work ahead. Got some fertiliser on the lawns and garden beds waiting for the rain. Autumn in Perth is a gift from the gods. Life is beautiful and our team is on the rise! A home game against the top team and we shouldn't be favourites, but we shouldn't be surprised if we win either!

I think we are looking at up to a 19 point loss or 28 point win. Huge spread there, but the dynamic of the game is such that i can make an argument for both. And what ride it is! Some young guns emerging, future champions of the game, we are young and hungry... and talented. Can't wait to enjoy the ride!

LFG!!!!
I assume the "little ones" are your kids.
I'm just asking

Footywire really should include a standard deviation in brackets next to the averages. It's actually quite significant and provides meaningful context to those numbers.
Yeah some extra statistics would help. SD and medians for a start.

If you know the players well enough, you can get an idea from skimming the lists.

Yes, I make the point because while Fremantle are young, I think we would have a low standard deviation, which is why we're able to be highly competitive despite having a young group.

Yes I think that is fair. We have a lot in the 21-25 group with somewhere between 30-90 games. Sydney is similar although maybe 1-2 years ahead (hence only 2 below 50) and a bit more quality in the 26-29 group.

Still, if we end up in genuine finals contention, it is ahead of schedule however you slice it. There is no substitute for experience (except supreme talent).

if one of your mates died would you go to work the next day?

think we need to be proud of them running out there tonight and doing the best they can

I will have to cheer the guys on from my bed, but trust you to be extra loud for me!

You're not exactly arguing against what I'm saying though... it is possible to turn the emotion attached to negative events into good performance. To say this doesn't imply that there's something wrong with being emotional, quite the opposite, that it's ok to be emotional and it can be used for good instead of as an excuse for poor performance.

Life is shit sometimes and part of being human is doing your job well even when you don't feel like it. That is what separates the elite from the not.

A game of football is not life or death, but it is very important to a lot of people.

Would I go to work if someone close to me died? It depends. If I had no one relying on me that day then I'd take it easy. If I had responsibilities to take care of then I'd make sure they were taken care of. I am often stoic and not affected by my emotion right up to the point where the dam breaks and everything pours out at once. We're all different and deal with things in our own way.

I looked at a 4-5 block of seasons testing various factors and how they impacted win/loss. Average age of a team divided between >24.5 vs <24.5 was one of the largest differences I found. It was significant enough that the team age distribution is likely not a factor in the majority of instances.

this is super unfortunate timing, especially for an important and challenging game

it could really go either way

Well thankfully we're above 24.5!

This.

Some will get up, some won't. We can't get upset with the players either way. Some may be fine right up to the first bounce when it falls apart.

Need to give them some room to breathe this week.
