This story is interesting for everyone, given it's one of the, if not the first rumoured 'big offer' out there because of free agency.

Going to be such a different landscape, things are changing, and this is the first heard of it.

I guess missing out on Clark, Freo have stepped up agressively to find someone else to fill their KPP stocks?

Or it's just rumour and innuendo.

Either way, interesting days.

Pretty much Lach. Why not have a shot and see how it ends up? Money talks.

In saying that, I reckon he'll stay. Eddie will probably throw half of the Lexus centre at him.

cleaning up our list over the last few years will set us up to be massive players in free agency. 4 years ago we were paying max salary cap and then we overhauled the list through the draft. hopefully go hard for this as we need a proven forward.

Would be amazing if we could snare Cloke. Throw him in our forward line ... have a fit Fyfe/Morabito/Barlow ... Sandi/Pav/McPharlin still playing at a decent level ... we could definitely win the flag in 2013.

Don't mind it at all.

The only issue with such a bid (if successful) would be paying overs and jeopardizing our ability to retain all of the younger brigade as they develop, but i'm confident the club is professional enough as it currently stands not to make that sort of mistake.

also I think this could be done if he actually wanted to come here... by my understanding if he agrees collingwood need to match it and I don't think they can unless players take paycuts or get delisted...

Go look at the Collingwood board (yea I know it's hard to do) but at 6pm Tuesday evening, 6hrs before Robbos article got published there was a thread started in this exact topic.... Think we may have found his "source"

Pies board seems to think that if it comes down to a trade, Clarke, Fyfe and our first rounder would be appropriate comp.

He's good, but christ, he's not that good!

If its true then they'll be bit upset when they receive maybe 1 first round draft pick they are lucky! No trades involved in free agency!!

Free agency doesnt mean a trade. It means they get AFL allocated compensation

I was under the impression that Cloke's free agency criteria means that Collingwood matching our offer would result in a trade/him entering the draft (assuming he still wants to go). Probably should have read the official rules rather than bigfooty though!

Meh
I dont believe it for a second

We need him but the price required to get him will be far too much.
Will stay at collingwood or go to GWS for real money.

I believe others that think theres a chance we will chase Goddard.
Still close with Lyon, Saints on the way down and need to hit draft hard.
Dont agree its the best strategy for us to fill our needs, but seems more likely.

Having to match it is the key though. By all reports, Collingwood is stretched so won't be able to match a massive bid unless they offload a star or two.

Cloke does seem like a mercenary and his old man (manager) is a loose cannon. Not beyond the realms of reality but who knows. It is a bit concerning that we've painted ourselves into a corner and need to buy a KPF and pay overs as the cupboard is bare. Hasn't gone well in the past...

I posted on the main board that this is a bit of a non-story. I mean it's undoubtedly true that we're looking at him. So would anybody needing a ready to go power forward, and Cloke's dad will look at all deals crossing his table, and there'll be a few, but I'd say we're a long shot of getting him.

As somebody posted above, if he's willing to move from Melbourne (apparently this is an issue for him), the big money is going to come from GWS, I doubt we could match them.

I read very little into this one of many rumours that are going to come out with the free-agency era.

People were saying Ablett would never leave geelong when the story first emerged...

I dont like it.
Is going to change football forever.
The richer clubs will be able to use their $$$ and backdoor deals to get stronger.
Then the AFL says dont worry about giving other team compo, we will take care of it.

Atleast with trading big clubs generally have to give up something to get what they were after.
Now they get what they want and lose nothing.

How are teams like North etc ever going to lure big name players.
yet as soon as they get one clubs will have no problems luring them away.

In a few years the free agency will probably be relaxed even more.
Great for players, not great for struggling clubs.

Fairest solution is for clubs to be more open to trades and helping players get to where they want to go.
Instead of trying to screw each other over in trades.
Wishful thinking but best way imo.
